Gangsta.

Nicholas Brown and Worick Arcangelo, known in the city of Ergastalum as the "Handymen," are mercenaries for hire who take on jobs no one else can handle. Contracted by powerful mob syndicates and police alike, the Handymen have to be ready and willing for anything. After completing the order of killing a local pimp, the Handymen add Alex Benedetto—a prostitute also designated for elimination—to their ranks to protect her from forces that want her gone from the decrepit hellhole of a city she has come to call home. However, this criminal’s paradise is undergoing a profound period of change that threatens to corrode the delicate balance of power.

Ergastalum was once a safe haven for "Twilights," super-human beings born as the result of a special drug but are now being hunted down by a fierce underground organization. This new threat is rising up to challenge everything the city stands for, and the Handymen will not be able to avoid this coming war.

I don't really know why, but I had high hopes coming into this one. Didn't read anything about it, see any trailers etc. So I'm not really sure where these hopes came from. Ultimately, it's rather average.

Animation is great to be honest, reminds me of a Madhouse style animation but not quite a finessed. The fights are still well animated despite my previous comment. The violence is nicely done and weirdly doesn't feel to over the top. I would probably give the animation a 7/10.

Music wise, it's equally as strong as the animation. At times, it's a little simple and repetitive but still ... manages to keep the scenes moving forward when involved. I would give the music 7/10

I found the story here a bit boring. Im not ate about anyone else but I didn't really buy into any of the characters. I'm not really sure the show really tries to get you emotionally invested in them either. This is fine of course, but without this, I lose interest and thus feel the story drags with every episode. Setting characters to one side and focusing on the story, it's still the same for me. It's not an overly exciting premise. Sometimes, I feel it's impacted by it's episode count, but pacing isn't the problem here. It spreads the story out really well over the episodes it's just unexciting and very average for me. 6/10

All In all, this is a 6/10 for me. I'm still going to say it's recommended, as with the right viewer, I'm sure it's great.

Mixed Feelings

It seemed quite interesting at first. The show is 8/10 in the first episodes. The story isn't that mysterious or unique, it's something we used to see, but it can be considered a nice piece of art. Characters can also be considered ordinary, but they have some depth in their character. The ending was something that couldn't be considered as a cliffhanger. The anime turns into your classic show where they accelerate things because they don't have enough budget and you don't understand who is who and why they are doing what they are doing. This can be solved with a new season but I ... guess we won't see that.

Since when did Shounen with dark colour tones come to be categorized as Seinen?

Tell me if this sounds familiar- a guy unloved since childhood, hated even by peers and teammates, has an incredible power within him and lives his life as a weapon. He finds one person who shows him compassion/kindness and treats him as a human rather than a living weapon and actually loves him. The Weapon becomes indebted to the kind one for life and stays unquestionably loyal to him. The Weapon while being an efficient cold-blooded killer in all respects still has a child-like personality simply because he can play with ... children or get scolded by the elderly. He is committed to the "greater good" and even though is often faced with foes much stronger than him pushes himself to his limits to win and save the day.

Gangsta. is anything but gangsta. It is the same old bullshit that shounen anime has championed for generations. The show could have seriously gained from delving into the background of the Tags- why the Cerebrers were invented, how they were used, how the tags were commissioned, who were selected for becoming Tags, why so many Twilights came and settled in Ergastulum, the situation of Twilights outside Ergastulum, why the 3 laws came into being, and the obvious existence of other tags for secret governmental missions. The series doesn't even get into the history of Ergastulum and its crime families, something that would have been crucial to understanding the conflicts which escalate in the later episodes. The Esminets are plain gimmicky stereotypes of characters (btw no background on them either). It keeps on setting up more and more things without any of it adding up to anything. After keeping up the pretense of a plot for 6 episodes by the 7th episode it starts delving increasingly into Shounen territory and by the 9th deep dives into full-on bullshit with the shit getting smellier with each succeeding episode. They even fail to explore the prejudices and hatred people harbor for the Twilights, as if the only threat marginalized communities face is that of direct massacres. And can we get over the romanticizing of the Mafia already?

The character design though is on point, if only at a visual level. So trailers and AMVs should look good.
