Animation studio Sunrise has announced at AnimeJapan 2016 that its 2006 mecha anime series Zegapain will be re-edited into a movie titled Zegapain ADP. The movie will also include new scenes not present in the TV anime.

Zegapain ADP will open on October 15, 2016, at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters. The production commemorates the tenth anniversary of the series broadcast. A tenth anniversary event will also be held on July 16 at Maihama Amphitheater.

The Blu-ray box of the original series, which was released in 2010 with limited copies, will also go on sale for the general public later this year.

Just watched the movie, and while I couldn't understand all of it as my Japanese skills were not totally up the scratch, I think the original post was super misleading.

This movie is a prequel which shows the of Kyou before he blows himself up on the moon, the scene we see in the original first episode.

To all the people that wanted original Zegapain instead of a rehash, I am glad to say that this is what you will get. You get to see all the characters and how they met Kyou and how Kyou gets affected by things (I won't spoil it for people that haven't watched all the anime).

It also explains a few things, like the lack of adults in the original series.

Very much looking forward to watching it again.

Awesome. Really looking forward to this whenever it gets fansubbed.

Just saw this now while clicking through the seasons. I hope it gets a sequel, Zegapain was actually pretty good, although it wasted some potential. The movie will most likely suck though. A 26 eps series comprimised into a movie? OF COURSE!

Color me both surprised and delighted that this we're getting more of this, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering that this show is pretty damn popular in Japan.

I sure as hell don't mind this. I adored the show to hell and back, but a remake that fixes the animation (which is the main reason I'd argue the show never got popular) is something I'd very much be behind.

So japan has good taste afterall?

Maybe the action scenes won't be awful this time.

Yep, that was the biggest weakness of the anime. Rehashed scenes over and over and over again. And they were bad/boring even the first time around.^^

Honestly, Zegapain is one my favourite animes, being one of the only 5 I rated a 10, so I hope they don't fuck up with this movie and I also don't want a sequel cause the original series had a nice ending which wrapped up the story well.

Anyway, on the way to my PTW.

Cool! I have forgotten about this anime, but it seems to be very good, so I am going to watch the series before the movie comes out.

Wow pretty random. It's unpopular on mal, but maybe more known in JP?
Prefer an s2 though. Can't recall much but was a very relaxing mecha show.

A sequel is not out of the question folks. All of this publicity mean they are gauging the popular demand for a follow up.

PRAISE BE TO JESU!!

ZEGAPAIN LIVES!!!!!

Wow it's not even new. What an absolute gong show this industry has turned into where all the old studios do jack fucking shit now and all the newer ones just milk popular licenses
