While Claymore may not be just as dark and gory as Berserk, it still holds plenty of bloody battles and monsters. The characters are interesting, and so is the story.
And Claymore is full of nice women. Just so you know.
Violent action sword fighting manga that is extremely well drawn.
Monster fighting, not always ends well, dark ambience.
claymore is basicly a less explicit version of berserk except claymores characters are almost all female
Both Berserk and Claymore involve the main character battling against monsters that take the form of a human for the sake of revenge, however that is not the only thing that the two series' have in common. Both have a dark atmosphere and contain a flashback arc revealing the reasons for the protagonists goal of revenge. Aswell as that both protagonists are burdened with taking care of someone they care about. Chances are if you enjoyed Claymore, you'll enjoy reading Berserk, or vice versa.
Imagine Miura sensei working for a shonen magazine...yep that pretty much sums up Claymore. Only Claymore has more pretty girls.
Both stories are dark and violent. Both main characters wield huge swords to kill monsters.
Both are placed at a medieval world with a lot monsters.
Berserk has a superior art and gore level, but Claymore still pretty good.
Both are set in medieval style fantasy setting, although Claymore has main female character and Berserk male, they both figth with big swords, slay demons/monsters from time to time... If you liked one of them you will certainly like the other because they`re so amazing that it can`t be explained with words without spoiling the content.
Although Berserk is senien but the killing and fighting is quite similar just is that Claymore is less dark and better IMO.

Both are violent and got nicely done action scenes and interesting flashbacks. Berserk is set in a more fantasy medieval world while Vinland Saga follows the life of Danish Vikings.
Berserk Golden age part is very similar to Vinland saga, both is about a strong young boy who is a part of a mercenary group and got full respect from the leader who gives him the most important missions.
The art in the two are very close, tho Vinland Saga is a more clean while Berserk is more sketchy and more detailed.
Drawing is almost exactly the same. Not to mention the fact that the stories are very similar. Not nearly as much nudity in Vinland Saga though.
It's similar to the first volumes of Berserk, a kind of medieval historical war story, revolving around a young man.
Similar artwork and also similar level of detail. Also plenty of similar over the top fight scenes however Vinland Saga has more strategy elements than Berserk and has a more merciful approach to the slaughter of women and children
if you read berserk and like it and haven't started reading vinland saga what is wrong with you. vinland saga is very similar to berserks golden age story like before the apostles and sh!t but vinland saga is so much better. berserk was the first manga i read and have been a fan for some time now but vinland saga takes the cake i think. so if you like berserk take a look at vinland saga while you are waiting for the next chapter to come out we all know how long that takes.
Both of them have similiar art. Stories are big and epic. only differense is that vinland saga has no monster it´s more realistic. Its must see series if you like manga like beserk
Berserk and Vinland Saga are alike in many ways... Pacing, Art style, characters, etc. Vinland Saga starts off with Thorfinn who yearns to avenge his fathers death, and works for his fathers killer, while berserk follows the much more mature protagonist Guts, who also yearns to avenge his fallen comrades by cutting down his former ally Griffith. Both characters have similar appearances and goals despite their age difference. Another similarity in pacing is that both stories have an extremely long back story shown early on. Vinland Sagas backstory being around 10 chapters around 5 chapters into the series and Berserks backstory being around 7 volumes 3 volumes in.

These dark fantasy reads involve large scale fights with powerful, often gigantic, creatures.
Both have rich story telling and pull you into the dark twisted worlds they inhabit. Both stories make you feel as though you were experiencing the events firsthand, including the pain and psychological stress the characters experience.
Both have a dark fantasy setting and contain frequent fights and much gore.
Both have very ugly and horrific monsters that destroys people and splatters blood.
Both are in a medieval world and got gore elements.
Berserk has a higher quality art.

Shin Angyo Onshi is the Korean Berserk. It's as simple as that. Few manga/manhwa can compare to Berserk in terms of art, but SAO even rivals Berserk in that area--SAO's art probably even bettering Miura's detailed work.
For the sake of spoilers, I'll avoid going into detail, but I will say this: Munsu's personality and actions mirror Guts'. His hatred and need for vengeance are also powered by what forces Guts forward (the 'betrayal' of a best friend, as well as a woman in the middle of them and a word starting with 'R'). And as for SAO's villain, not only does he look like Griffith, he has the same creepy smiling-but-evil/manipulative aura.
Another Seinen series dealing with a character who later has much of his past introduced via flashback. Also includes large swords, magic, and violence.
Both are EPIC. I also find them to be kinda similar, except that SAO doesn't drag out.
The main character, Munsu, is a lot like Guts, and the main antagonist, Aji Tae, is superficially similar to Griffith. Likewise, the major theme here is revenge for what Aji Tae has done to Munsu and everything he loved. The number of superficial similarities to Berserk are too many to count, to the point of me suspecting plagiarism, but this is not a bad thing. The series is very violent, very epic, and has plenty of demons, so if you're looking for a quick fix while waiting for new Berserk chapters, I think this can keep you entertained.
Struggling against a god like entity. ATOMIC RAGE guranteed

Both have violent but cool fighting scenes and even some sex together with interesting stories. Beserk follow a medieval fantasy world while Gantz is set in alternate present cyberpunk. Both main characters are also affected by unknown forces.
This is a very mature, violent, bloody, seinen, dark manga. The manga has been around since like 1990 (so it's been over 20 years!!!) and the story is simply AMAZING. I am very impressed by the creator of Berserk. I watched the anime first and then jumped straight to read the manga. The anime only covers like 10% of the whole story and the manga is not even finished yet. This is another AMAZING manga.
Hundreds and hudreds of very graphic and detailed deaths. Lots of main characters die. There are explicit sex scenes, violations and a lot of gore. Probably the two hardest mangas I have read.
Both have a lot of gore and some sex/ecchi elements.
Out-of-this-world monsters, violence, blood gore and sex... It is so similar in this aspect is was surprising. However, one revolves around revenge while the other is more about saving humanity. If you just love violence and gore, then both these are just for you.

Ubel Blatt is essentially a "newer" version of Berserk. It shares many general themes with Berserk, such as a dark fantasy setting, swordfighting, sex and the theme of a lone hero betrayed by his friends and is out to get revenge. However, the mangaka of Ubel Blatt is no Miura; the art is of a more typical manga style than the extremely detailed drawings you'll find in Berserk. Consequently, the character design looks similarly generic.
This difference is rather apparent when you compare Koinzell, the main character who looks like a scarred version of Link and is indeed an Elf/Fairy thing, to Guts who is pretty much the complete opposite with his massive frame, huge sword and chisel-jawed features. There is also some silliness with special attacks being named (another common anime/manga trope) unlike Berserk, where Guts just sort of cuts everything to pieces.
That being said, we all know that Berserk has a rather lengthy interval between releases. Ubel Blatt is more of the dark fantasy setting with similar themes of hopelessness and while it's not as good as its inspiration, it still makes for an enjoyable read.
Two dark action adventure series that feature both male protaganists seeking revenge as an important goal. Both series provide an interesting journey of different encounters for both male leads.
Another seinen with a sword-wielding character with a flashback-seen tragic past. This main character is stuck in a small elf-like body, but that doesn't stop him from being more sexually active than guts. Crazy violence and awesome
Same-ish medievil, dark atmosphere. Blood and gore similar to Berserk, although not same art style. All in all, great manga. More chapters need to be translated though!!

Victor Freeman is a black Gutts. Period.
Berserk and Blaster Knuckle is virtually the same manga, we follow the lone hero, who's out for revenge against demons.
The mayor difference is that in Knuckle Blaster the protagonist is a black man and the story takes place in USA during the 19th century.
They are both great, violent mangas, and if you loved Berserk you'll definitley like Blaster Knuckle, it's an incredibly entertaining story.
Blaster Knuckle and Berserk is nearly the same manga.
The main character of both mangas are basically the same. They hunt for monsters and they don't need no help nor friends, they only need their anger and hate to get revenge and they will kill everyone who gets in their way.Killing sprees and massacres are part of their daily life. The only exception in that Victor is black and that Blaster Knuckle is set in the wild west while Berserk is set in a medieval-fantasy world.

Whilst these two have completely different settings, they have many common themes between them. Both Berserk and Alita follow unfortunate protagonists whose troubles seem to go from bad to worse-- pretty much all the time. Guts and Gally/Alita (depending on where you read it) suffer terrible hardship, and through this we see them change dramatically. Both stories are so emotional and amazingly written... but I think it's important to note that they're both really gorey!
While they have wildly different settings (Lovecraftian fantasy vs Cybernetic Sci-fi), they both have strong, captivating, mature seinen stories with lots of violence, gore and death, and they both explore the true darkness of humanity. If you like one I guarantee you'll enjoy the other.
Blood; Gore; Endless pain; Chaotic world filled with destruction and madness.
Different worlds and times, different main characters and their motives for fighting, yet everything is going toward final rampage. Gutts and Gally are searching their sanctuary, a place for ease their minds in distorted world. They won't accomplish anything without fight..

Both focus on an antihero of sorts with extreme proficiency in slicing dudes. Beautiful artwork, complex and mature themes, and a (while not yet present in Vagabond) hostile rivalry between the two main characters. Berserk is set in a high-fantasy setting while Vagabond is set in medieval Japan and on historical events.
The character of Guts (of Berserk) is ostensibly inspired by the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, both of them being unmatched swordsmen who overcame death and tragedy, emerging from obscurity to mix with the ruling class. Vagabond has "Musashi and the Seventy" while Berserk has "Guts the Hundred-Man Slayer".
Just go ahead and read it. You'll see it is Berserk let loss in feudal Japan.

Violence, misogyny, sex and gore are featured these two amazing masterpieces that show off the skills of the mangakas and illustrators. There are a must read for any manga reader in search of a mature plot that weave together a bloody, action packed scenes that will not fail to entertain.
Seinen mangas with an awesome artwork, specially with the demons and the bloody scenes.

A deep and interesting story, buckets of blood and gore and brilliant characters is what awaits in both Berserk and BotI. As well as great art and naturally, plenty of sword fighting.
Despite the difference in drawing style and adult content (i.e. sexual material of Berserk) these two mangas have a distinct similarity when it comes to atmosphere. They both sport a definite anti-hero, gore, beautiful characters and a great story. I could honestly not choose one over the other.
Both have a great plot, lots of violence, dark fantasy elements, and main characters seeking revenge against a divine entity.
Both are tales about a man going on a quest of vengeance after their lives are screwed by the unholy powers. Brutal fights and lots of blood.
Both are violent, action-heavy series with plotlines that'll leave you much to question and think about. Both are fantasy worlds with very interesting cosmologies. Both have their share of massacres and badassery.
Both are action, adventure, fantasy, seinen mangas. They are very gory and contain lots of supernational elements( e. g. either of them have some sort of alternative dimension or there are magic users, etc. ). Dorohedoro however involves more comedy. Anyway, both of them are great mangas.
Altough akame ga kill is more light hearted. I think it is very similar to beserk. both have fantasy weapons and armor but they still fight a bit more realistic then in most manga.
Both stories aren't afraid to let people die, even if they are innocent or characters.
In both they are in a corupted world fighting monsters (some humans are also monsters) against odds. altrough guts is alone
They both show lots of gore.
And focus mainly on fighting.
Both main characters go on a journey and both get recruited into a type of team.

FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, BETRAYAL and REVENGE! Great stories and wonderful storytelling, similar plot devices and stunning action scenes are what define these two great comics.
the main conflict is very similar to what happens between Guts and Griffith. they are both stories about revenge.

Well I'll refrain myself from spoiling the two (Spoilers for decades old manga? Surely everyone already knows the spoilers)
Miura himself claims he's a big fan of Go Nagai and had influences from his manga.
As for the manga:
Both have deep roots in mythology and share a great deal of themes. Among them: friendship, corruption, and betrayal.
If you only read the first Devilman series you might see the similarities with Berserk and also notice the major turning point of both series are very much alike.
The more of Devilman you read the more and more similarities you'll notice.
The characters:
Akira/Amon and Guts: Both (at some point or another) sacrifice some of their humanity to become stronger. (It's spoilers to say, but the more you read of each the more similarities you'll pick up)
Several characters and Caska: If you read Devilman and the backstories you notice Caska is a combination of several traits of the woman present in the Devilman series.
Asuka and Griffith: Both are at one point or another best friends with the main character. Both also are one of the main reasons the main character is able to gain strength. They also share the trait of the (HUGE SPOILER).
Also, the relationship between the main character and the "best friend" can occasionally (and in some cases undeniably) be described as homosexual in nature (one could argue against this but no matter the case the bonds extend far beyond comradery and friendship). There are plenty of actions both "best friends" take out of jealousy over the main character's affections. Read more into both series and you'll find them.
The stories in both series (especially in regards to Berserk's Golden Age arc) are almost identical (involving demons, hell, the sacrifice of one's humanity for power, and the like). Both Akira Fudo (Devilman) and Gut (Berserk) are (relatively) mundane individuals who are hired by white-haired bishonens (Ryo in Devilman, Griffith in Berserk) to fight for them, earning infamous reputations. Both also have EXTREMELY dark endings (just of the Golden Age arc with Berserk), that involve betrayal and loss. The series do differ in their protagonists though, with Akira being pure-hearted and kind and Guts being cynical and cruel.

Ares and Berserk share a number of themes and story elements, while at the same time remaining wholly unique. Ares follows the story of a group of talented young swordsmen who come together in a mercenary army and forge bonds of friendship and camaraderie through difficult battles.
Each of the main characters is given a rich background and a very unique personality, however it's in those personalities that you see the echoing of Berserk's lead rolls. Ares, like Guts, has a tragic past and is driven by thoughts of revenge. Michael, like Griffith, has a very grandiose dream and he is willing to sacrifice anything to realize that dream.
So if you are looking for something to read while you wait for the next chapter of Berserk then I highly recommend giving Ares a go, you won't regret it!
Both of these manga show you what life is like for a mercenary. The main characters of both manga get betrayed by their best friend, and both are seeking revenge and decide to fight against eachother.

Cool guys, big weapons and much blood and and gore... what else is there to say ?
I wouldn't be surprised if Dororo was an inspiration for Berserk. Both feature a mutilated but incredibly skilled hero on a quest for revenge against demons, accompanied by a cocky sidekick. Berserk is far more disturbing, but Dororo is quite dark and gruesome in its own right.
Although Berserk & Cyber Blue are night and day, they both have good art and action & of course revenge.
In both there exists a chaotic dimension inhabited by beings who could grant your greatest wish in return for blood sacrifice. Both involve characters having to deal with the aftermath of betrayal and a tragic massacre.
The determination to face any challenge is a common feature of both characters. If you like that kind of character is not discouraged, however bad the situation is, then you will like to know both Gatsu (Berserk) as Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken).
One man hell bent on revenge he will even take on an entire army himself just to find out why the people he trusted betrayed him and set him up.
This is the only case i have seen where someone actually lines up to guts as a character nearly one hundred percent.
Mills, Grahad is pretty much the future soldier, military trained, arms expert, cqc expert version of guts.
If you liked berserk, and you even slightly like mecha you should greatly enjoy the thrill ride that is red eyes.

Same man who killing monsters.
Both series are about a guy fighting the gods.
-Both have extreme amounts of violence
-Both feature a protagonist being back-stabbed by a friend
-Both series are very seinen in nature
-Both series have a relatively realistic art-style
Haight and Guts, both lost something dear, both lost limbs, both got betrayed by their friends, both got tortured, both want revenge and both like killing.
I'm not sure how to explain, but, I think Hideout and Berserk has very similar feautures. Mostly as the male protagonist in Hidout is similar to Guts. If you would like to read something unique, dark, gory, badass, with a considering amount of depht, and amazing artwork - Then you should most definitely read this suggested manga.
After the Golden Age arc, Berserk becomes almost a carbon-copy of Violence Jack. Both Guts and Jack are nearly identical in behavior and personality (Guts just having a prosthesis and a bigger blade to differentiate himself from Jack), and both series involve their respective protagonist journeying through a post-cataclysmic land fighting warlords and monsters (who are often enough one and the same in both).
- In both, the enemy is a dear friend whom the protagonist was close to.
- The behelit and the sesshoseki are kind similar.
They're both incredibly violent involve lots of adult situations and lots of morally wrong actions.
Swords, demons, great graphics, violence... Both mangas offer almost the same. Le Chevalier D'Eon is shorter, but enjoyable, while Berserk is known for it's long, epic story. In both series the protagonists are hunting for traitors to avenge the past.
Both have the same sex and violent style, which means there are a lot, but never feels forced. And both have very interesting and complex stories, even though Berserk is medieval and Eden is Sci-fi.
Both are heroic fantasy with lot of gore and a cursed main character.
Both set in fantasy worlds, both full of unrestrained violence! Berserk is more epic in scope due to its length, but as a result lags a bit at times, whereas Banya is short at 5 volumes but full of pace and energy all the way to the end.
According to Kentaro Miura "Guin Saga" has been his major inspiration when creating the Berserk manga series.
If you loved the extreme gore and genitaless sex of Battle Royale then you will probably fall in love with Berserk which also boasts a great story, amazing characters and a ton of monsters.
Check both out if you like blood, gore and tragic pasts.
Done by the same author so art identical in both mangas. Both leading personages have similar characters.
Tis about the same....hero with tragic past who doesn't accept his fate and craves to be the strongest...
Set in a fantasy setting, both publications follow the journey of a strong-willed individual who is not afraid to challenge anything that pops in his/her way.
For those who've only seen the movie of Nausicaa may question this reccomendation. however the manga is completely different from the anime.
Both Berserk and Nausicaa are bloody, there's a lot of wars, fighting and action. also a lot of wierd and interesting shit happens. with berserk its demons and monsters, in nausicaa its monsters, giant bugs that have a great link to the earth and immortal kings that breed unhuman warriors. Most importantly they both have a very, very great plot and storyline.
Both involve an individual who has to fight off hordes of monsters with an enormous sword while fighting for others. Both protagonists also have groups that develop over time and both their groups began with a male and female protagonist. They're also both very action oriented however Berserk is much darker.
Both are full of blood, guts, and action. The main character is similar to guts in how he just rips apart anything in his way WITH HIS BARE HANDS. Although its set in the real world , what he does to baddies is just AWESOMELY GRUESOME. Art is similar to *Fist of the North Star* and *Jojo's Bizarre Adventure* (also recommended if you like the aforementioned series)
Both have protagonists who take it upon themselves to overthrow the gods, Berserk is about revenge while Feng Shen Ji is about a fight for real freedom.
Berserk is set in a medieval European time setting full of monsters and Gods while Shamo takes place in modern-day Japan dealing with martial arts fights. These two pieces are mature works and share a pervasive dark mood throughout, and the art of both reflects that, being highly detailed and gritty -- don't ever expect flowers and rainbows. Both are chock full of violence, sex, rape, and two protagonists who share an immeasurable will to survive, ruthlessly fighting to defeat something that is undeniably a bigger force than they. Both of their journeys' will suck you right in, so be ready for a rough ride.
Berserk is an amazing manga similar to King of Hell. Between extraordinary artwork and a plot full of suspense, both of these wonderful reads set the standard for manga/manhwa. In both series we follow around an immensely powerful master swordsman in Guts and Majeh, and tag along as they not only display their incredible power, but show their interactions with not just their friends, but their enemies as well. These are def. my two favorite reads.
Berserk deals with a warrior fighting against massive grotesque monsters and humans alike such as knights and bandits and most recently tentacle pirates, Toujuushi Bestialious (somebody really needs to translate the alternative name for this) has a Wyvern fighting a gladiator and roman legionnaires
Berserk started off as a one shot and I can imagine Toujuushi Bestialious turning out to look very similar to Berserk if it is given the same opportunity to be turned into a full blown action manga
Both titles show awesome detailed artwork particularly the monsters and armor
Both set in a fantasy medieval world with bloody violence and action filled with monsters and magic
Both are set in medieval fantasy worlds containing monsters, knights and big scale battles.
The main characters of both stories are anti-heroes with great powers.
Medieval setting, features a lot of violence and gore with a cruel and charismatic main character (Wolfram/Griffith)
Dark, gritty titles with loads of violence, gore and monsters fighting humans.
Terra Formars has a sci-fi setting though.

You like lots of gore & blood, massive action, some (very) naughty scenes, religious themes, amazing art and kickass main & side characters? Then go and check out one of the best Seinens out there!
