I think all the criticisms you made of Vagabond are its strengths.

From your review, I gather that you tried too hard to rationalise the characters from your perspective than actually understand the characters and place them within the context of the story.

This is a good observation but it's also why the story is brilliant. It's how Musashi let's say attains 'enlightenment" not through meditation or knowledge but through his immense passion for being the best at the sword. Musashi is not shown to be very intelligent outside his passion for swordsmanship. It is exactly the roadblocks he faces that make him wiser. The many paths that lead to one realisation. Though I am no fan of Eastern Philosophy I can't deny its emotional allure.

I absolutely loved the 70-man fight. While I do agree that action can be better with substance I also think action can be an end in itself. A good recent example would be the John Wick series. I think by the time the 70-man fight happens you were not a fanboy of Musashi enough to find the rather ( unrealistic ) feat absolutely epic.

Loved the Vagabond review, agreed with it fully.

Your Vagabond review was honestly very fair and I say this as a fan of the manga. I probably need to re-read it to get a more unbiased perspective on its entirety but I found myself agreeing with some of the stuff you mentioned.
