I never expected to like Pandora Hearts. I hate the Victorian era, get easily bored by mysteries, and am typically annoyed by fluffy cuteness. I much prefer violence, blood, and deep, dark storylines. And yet, I love Pandora Hearts to pieces!! I think I experience it from a different angle than many other PH fans, so I want to offer my perspective.
I love all the characters here. Really, I've never loved so many characters so much before. They all have very colorful personalities, representing most of the standard animanga archetypes but elaborating on each in unique ways. I connect with all of them very strongly. There's lots of great chemistry between the characters, ranging from laugh-out-loud funny to depressingly-dark. I love the full spectrum of emotion here. But characters alone do not a good series make.
The plot is incredible. It is complex, but not to the point of confusion. The whole thing so far is about unraveling what happened during a tragedy 100 years ago in order to prevent it from happening again. As such, most of the plot takes place in the past, and is revealed through pieces of characters' memories. Herein lies my favorite philosophical obsession with this series. I love how PH addresses the fact that partial memory is a very dangerous thing. The characters get their memories back gradually, and in very fragmented form. They don't know the whole story, and their assumptions about what happened and about who they are given the limited information they have affects self-image, personality, and actions, even if the assumption they made isn't true.
How do people deal with the idea that there's more to them than the life they know, or that they're essentially more than one person? What if everybody around them expects them to be somebody else? How does this shape their perception of identity? What if you don't remember enough? What if you forgot that you wanted to forget? And what do you do when you remember too much? Or what if the past that made you who you are completely changed? These are the kinds of questions addressed in Pandora Hearts.
There is much re-read value in this series. Many things happen before they are explained, or before a character remembers its significance, so you pick up on a lot of things you missed on your 2nd (or 3rd or 10th) read through. read more

I can't stress how completely amaing this manga is. I started out watching the anime and when the episodes wouldn't come fast enough I began reading the manga...and now I'm waiting for each chapter to come out.
I've always liked interesting spins on Alice in Wonderland and this one tops them all for me. All the characters are interesting, deeper than they look, and keep you guessing as to who they really are and what secrets they are hiding. Where some characters may have come off as cliche in the first few chapters it is revealed later on that they have much darker and deeper pasts than you could ever guess. It's hard for me to write too much without spoiling it, but if you're looking for a good manga to read really should try this one out.
This manga has some of my favorite anime characters and probably one of the best storylines I've ever read. The art work is beautiful and it really lives up to all expectations. I just hope they keep the gore from the manga in the anime. All in all I give it a perfect 10 though I wouldn't reccomend it for younger children... when you get to around chapter 20-25 or so you'll understand what I mean.
Give it a shot! You won't regret it! ^_^ read more

Both stories have similarity, between the Contractor and the Demon. They also have similar style and era. Characters wear Victorian-dress and Gothic style. The main characters have same deep conflict regarding their past times.
Both stories have a similar dark and creepy atmosphere and have a Victorian setting. The protagonists of each series is a high-ranking nobleman (well, boy) that have made a contract that is probably going shorten their life spans considerably.
Both characters have a contract of somesort with someone/other, are warped, have a dark past, are hunted down for a reason/reasons, ect...
i first read PH than kuroshitsuji, && i can tell that while im rading Kuroshitsuji, i have this same feeling while reading PH too. i mean, it'll give you lots of emotions. you'll laugh, cry & get mad too!creeps & darkness are together. both are great manga. im sure you'll definitely get addicted to both of it.:)
Both series have a sort of fantasy Victorian theme, though Pandora Hearts focuses more on fantasy and Kuroshitsuji on Victorian. Kuroshitsuji is, overall, darker than Pandora Hearts, though Pandora Hearts does have a fair share of horror, but neither are without humor.
Kuroshitrsuji and Pandora Hearts are lot alike. In both stories something tragic has happened in the past. There are supernatural powers and both have a lot of comedy and adventure. both are truly amazing stories with a contract between the two main characters. These two stories will make you laugh, cry, and make you want to punch that one person in your class whom you hate. They both take place in the past around the Victorian Era. While Kuroshitsuji has a gothic style of art and story and Pandora Hearts has a brighter and cheerful aura the two stories will always make you love one of the main characters. Well I know I do.
Both Pandora Hearts and Kuroshitsuji deal with servants and their masters. In both of these, the master is a (in the words of Sharon from Pandora Hearts) "shota" type and the servants are "bishounen". Both of the masters in these series have a dark auras to them at times (although Oz seems nicer than Ciel at first glance) and both of these series involve contracts plus lots of bishounen. These manga both have dark/Gothic atmostpheres to them and both are set in a European setting.
-Both main characters make a contract with an demon being to get out of a nasty situation, are born into the upper class, and will died once the contract is over (Well in Pandora Heart the contractor may as well be dead)
-The demon beings are used for protection and fighting
-Both series have a servant-and-master relationship with the demon being and contractor
-You have no idea what happened in the past traumatic event with both series.
-Both main characters are searching for something but the things are different
--Both are not finished and are a page turner(at least in my opinion) but Pandora Hearts does have several plot twisters
--And finally both have been made into good Animes that start the same way but end up having a different plot then the Mangas

Both manga display some similarities like, for instance:
- A Powerful Organization (Pandora/Circus) & some weird monsters.
- An alternative fantasy World, where PH is set in an alternative Victorian Era and Karneval in a Modern Steampunk World.
- A blonde happy go lucky main character (Oz/Yogi) that apparently has no problems, but later on some secrets are revealed.
IMO, I like PH better because of certain elements you do not find in Karneval: While PH & Karneval start with a happy feeling, PH soon becomes heart wrenching, leading to a profound character development and an intricate twisted plot, while Karneval manages to keep the happy feeling by shortening the drama scenes and making soft transitions. Still, both are mangas that heavily rely on the message of true friendship and that is the central theme: "your friend is your family, you will protect them, they will protect you" is a quote that could define both plots, even if they are dealt in a completely opposite manner. Also, in both mangas the males are predominately more well developed than the females. Take for instance, Alice (PH) & Tsukumo (Karneval) which are badass, but frequently overshadowed by the males´s strong and meaningful presence. In general, I would say if You like one of these manga, you'll certainly enjoy the other, they both have gorgeous artwork and most of all, very likable characters.
Unknown, mysterious organisations.
Gore.
They have a dark feel to them.
Also, both Pandora Hearts & Karneval have their light, funny and touching moments.
Both main characters had just escaped from some confinement and weren't aware of things around their world.
Both characters then joined a mysterious organization and their activities focused around the organization ever since.
Both have organizations surrounding the main character. Also the main characters have a mystery including knowing very little about themselves, with a connection to a enigmatic person . The artwork in both is especially magnificent as well.
Art. Secrets. Organizations. Rabbits. Both manga share mysterious aura. Characters are also similar.
They both have really detailed art, supernatural elements, mystery and a small amount of comic relief. The plots are a little bit similar in some aspects (uncovering character's pasts in particular).
