Biggest overestimation is PMMM. I recalled it has 150k points lol. Bake nadeko snake had 120k iirc. And then SAO vol3 had 90k also. The recent overestimation is Tari-Tari.

Some popular titles yes, and unfortunately SAO happens to be one of the
overestimated ones, unless we see a second and third week, which is highly likely.

Again the watchers in 2ch Sales Thread proved that their consensus view is pretty spot-on. I wrote that a week before the sales date, the consensus view in the Japanese forum puts SAO first week sales at 25k-35k with most of the estimates near 35k, and so it proved !!!

I treat the IS line as the upper bound of SAO sales, and it seems SAO is now doing close to that. On the other hand, some people think SAO will sell 50k or even more -- in fact few serious people in Japan take that kind of wild estimate seriously. They know the limit of Amazon stalker.

GalPan (Girls und Panzer) is the only anime this season that I have watched one episodes for 4 times. Each time I managed to find something new hidden in it. It is such a fun.

In fact the latest Amazon BD sales/pre-sales ranking has GalPan as the No.1 selling title among this season's anime. Of course the fact that ep.4 has just been broadcast helps, but I cannot ignore the possibility that it may end up beating some titles widely tipped to be the top 4 this season.

Of course one of the worst shows of the year has to sell well, it just wouldn't be Japanese to not buy it.

I don't like Total Eclipse, but these good sales boost my hopes for an anime based off of the main visual novel series.

I have two answers for your question

1. The song is sung by Kumi Koda, who was the top of the top female singer in Japan just a few years ago. She has wound down her activities since she married and got pregnant this year, and this CD is a new release that breaks the recent silence. Selling this number is actually nothing too surprising.

2. But then the song actually got quite a bit of good feedback among the anime fans (who do not necessarily care much about the general j-pop music outside of anime songs) as one with addictive melody and beats. So it can be argued that some anime fans found it appealing enough to buy it.

In fact her music video is done entirely in anime style with TE-style mecha

Except that it is not EXACTLY THE SAME crowds. Different LNs have different group of avid fans and they do not always overlap. The most bestselling titles in recent seasons are those that are adaptations and one strong source of customers is the fans of the original novels/manga and many of them are not even dedicated anime fans/otaku. Your view is just too simplistic and stereotyped.

The movie is just like a precursor to a Season 3, so I am quite sure a S3 is being prepared.

Its sales is around what Japanese fans estimated according to the sales of the TV anime series, which is very good indeed.

Undoubtly, and the info I could find out on Yama no Susume(by looking up info about the manga) it seems that one is going to have a yuri romance 'subplot'. And Vividred Operation has the same Director as strike witches so I would not be surprised if it had yuri undertones(I could always hope..).

Anyway, the question now is: whether SAO can beat IS in vol.1 total sales? And after that, the question is whether SAO can beat IS in terms of sales average. The latter is tricky because SAO is 2 cours and since the tendency is that the later volumes usually sell fewer than the earlier ones, 2 cour anime series can be at a disadvantage here.
