I had guessed as much, judging from comments made by her that have been circling around. (I think I found the video footage in which she made these statements, and I've been meaning to watch it myself to determine how much truth is in what is being spread around, but finals are coming up and I've been busy.) Though if the source material is indeed in the same vein as any other shounen sports story, I think it would be a very bad call for the director to mold it into fujoshi fodder just because it's to her tastes.
She'd be ruining her reputation as a director before she even started, so I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about this.

Kaze no Stigma is very good,I liked it a lot.Too bad the author died and we don't have S2 because I believe it woule be awesome.
Watch them if you have time.Kimi ni Todoke,is very very good and I have re-watch both seasons.Is not like the other romance anime(not that I have watched many lol),it focus on the characters and their personalities,how a person can change you and also friendship.
