To be honest, I was expecting it to be completely dreadful judging by all the controversy but it was really just mediocre. It's also hard to fault the film too much for unanswered questions considering that there's still the fourth film to come yet. That doesn't make the 14-year timeskip any less silly, though.
My two main issues are with how illogical the characters' actions were and how overdramatized the whole thing was. Why the hell didn't anybody just explain the situation to Shinji from the start?! It would have prevented most of the problems that occurred. And why did Shinji pull out the two lances despite Kaworu desperately asking him to stop? I don't understand. Many actions did not make any sense. The movie also overdid it with the 'epic' Hollywood score and characters such as Mari were made completely irrelevant.
Oh well. I did still enjoy the film and there were some great scenes mixed in there too. The whole middle half, from when Shinji escapes to when he triggers the Fourth Impact, was well-directed and contained a few interesting scenes depicting Shinji's mental state. A shame that they were so few, though. I'd have liked more of that and less massive battles. Hopefully 4.0 is better.

You must know a lot about /a/ well then. I am glad that I found an /a/non who has similar taste and goes to the same Uni and the same age as me since /a/nons in new zealand tend to be older than me.
Also, dont you have to do conjoint if you want to law? Or are you a special case?

Haha, I know how you feel sometimes although most of my closest friends know that I watch anime and read manga. However since its a new school I have to hide it until I get close to them. Could you go by yourself? Or is that not possible? And I would like to meet you some time, so maybe then?

I don't mean based on the premise but the interaction between the characters. Watching the trailer, they all exhibit some stereotypical shounen-ai personality and are quite... touchy with one another.
Sure, you could genderbend this and there would be little to indicate yuri, but you also have to keep in mind that boys and girls act fundamentally different from each other. The Free trailer has all the boys behaving like the K-ON girls. Very unnatural.

Yup, there's a strong case of cognitive dissonance here. People want something different from KyoAni yet disregard anything out of the studio's comfort zone, while shows that simply reiterate on the formula (i.e. Tamako Market) are also met with disapproval. What do they want? More Haruhi and FMP? Seems like the only way to appease people considering how many damn posts I've read asking for these two shows.
I'm totally cool with a sports anime surrounding an all-male cast. What I'm not cool with is shameless fanservice and homoerotic tension made to pander to fujoshi. Even Kuroko no Basket wasn't half as gay as this trailer, and that show was hella gay at times.

Yep, its pretty nice that place. I used to go there nearly every week last year until I moved. You should go there if you have the change. And since its a cafe they don't really mind if you read only and leave although I normally buy something because I feel bad. Also, I can see that you browse /a/ from Komeiji's profile.

I can imagine. Even MAL was flooded with nonsense as soon as it was announced. It's disappointing to see something like this from KyoAni, but do we really need to flip tables over some fujoshi show?
