Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (2009)

Suzumiya is a fun series that initially throws you into an extremely goofy movie (but I had quite a bit of faith in the series, so I was curious to see what would come of it later), followed by a mysterious and no less original introduction in the real world, and after a few episodes you will ideally get hooked and enjoy an entertaining drama with impeccable characters. The series consists of a number of different plots that follow each other, at the beginning there are definitely a few surprises, then it goes more towards humor and unforgettable characters. I was most excited by the ... time travel episodes, where everything was wonderfully thought out, on the other hand, the most controversial and for me the most boring part is Endless Eight - I have to appreciate that every episode of this part is originally animated and I have never seen a time loop that more or less does not move in any episode, but watching it 8 times was boring, honestly I was always most looking forward to what the characters would wear and what mask Nagato would choose, at least one of the episodes had a nice camera variation with rotation according to the ticking of the alarm clock. Overall, I enjoyed this unusual piece. 🛸🕙〰

First Half of HaruMiya > Second Half of HaruMiya

For context, I’ve been watching HaruMiya in chronological order, and yeah, woof, this second half was rough.

While I had a lot of praise for the first half for its brilliant exploration of atmospheric strangeness, it is not unexpected that the show was unable to maintain the precise pacing needed to be successful at that type of storytelling in the second half.

I’m not saying anything new here, but the Endless Eight arc was hard to get through. I am the type of person who watches an episode of anime every day to slowly-but-steadily get through ... a show, and returning to the same plot over and over again for about a week wasn’t the most fun or interesting. I think there was potential here—I love a time loop arc (and had a lot of fun with the first season of Re:Zero for example), but I think the key here is that the eventual resolution has to feel cathartic, and this ending simply felt flat, unearned, and overly simple.

I still think that the show, as a whole, is required watching for any serious anime fan. It’s an important milestone in anime history, and it tried a lot of unique storytelling techniques, but if you find that the first half is really fun but the second half is a slog to get through, know that you’re not alone.

Garbage. The time loop was poorly executed and YES it ruins the entire fucking series stop coping just because you're gooned out over a few of the characters. All of the characters are just so mind bogglingly stupid even the ones that are supposed to be smart. Kyon is just a bland stupid cookie cutter mc and the writing is garbage. The show is just Asahina getting sexually harassed/assaulted and Kyon just going along for the ride. Lame as shit.

This is just another filler anime you should leave on in the background while doing something else and has no substance at all but of course ... the cult fanbase is gonna defend it and try to gaslight you into thinking it's the greatest writing in the entire world! Best anime ever! WRONG.
