SynopsisHikari Hanazono has always been second to Kei Takishima. When they were six years old, their pro-wrestling loving fathers introduced them to each other. Assuming that she was the best in wrestling, young Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match only to be thoroughly defeated by him.
Ever since that fateful incident, Hikari swore to beat Kei in school grades, sporting events - anything. To do this, she has enrolled in the same school as Kei since elementary. Now she attends Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school, that costs her carpenter father a lot of money.
Hikari and Kei are the top two students in the school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position. While Hikari considers Kei to be a rival and important friend, she is completely unaware that Kei loves her. The story primarily focuses on Hikari and her constant attempts to defeat her one and only rival, Kei, and how she finds love in their rivalry. |

Special A is primarily a Shoujo Rom/Com that starts off slow but gets better as you go. Based on the inability of Hikari to understand Kei's true feelings for most of the plot. Normal laws of physics are generally ignored by the seeming superhuman duo of Kei and Hikari, who also are both at the top of their school academically.
The story isn't the most original story ever, relying on the interaction of the seven members of the Special A (SA from now on) class and not involving many other characters. While somewhat predictable, it still manages to be entertaining most of the time if not frustrating because of the general lack of development between the main couple's relationship. (The anime does have several minor changes in its adaptation of the manga's story)
The art style is pretty normal for your typical shoujo. The character models are somewhat odd in their unusually elongated limbs, but it's nothing that should ruin the show for you. The scenery and colors are good, if nothing fantastic, and I particularly liked the animation of the romance scenes where they would employ a pastel like color scheme which enhanced the scene.
The sound, much like the art, is, for the most part, good while not great. The background music appropriate and never seemed to get annoying or repetitive. The OPs and EDs have mixed opinions. The first OP and ED didn't really go over well with me and i doubt anyone would mind skipping right over them. The second OP and ED didn't seem to be much better at first either, but surprisingly they grew on me and ended up being pretty catchy. I don't have any complaints about the VAs, they all seemed to fit their characters and Kei and Hikari's VAs particularly were good, bringing out the same character that was seen in the manga.
The Characters were developed well, with the other members of the SA getting their own spotlight at times. While the main focus is on the Kei x Hikari pairing, there are a few other pairings that show up and will get episodes developing them. Obviously, being the two main characters, Kei and Hikari are developed the most and are both likable, though you might want to strangle Hikari a few times for being as stupid/ignorant as she is. Still, she definitely has her own great moments and you should be able to mostly ignore her own shortcomings and cheer her (and Kei) on.
The enjoyment varies as the series goes on, starting off somewhat weak compared to its peak later on in the anime. The comedy of the anime compared to manga is just as good if not better than the original. The romance on the other read more

Special A is a Shoujo, Romantic, Comedy, Drama about the extravagant lives of some prestigious individuals and the romantic endeavours some of them pursue. It contains some side-splitting comedy but tends to fail when circumstances get too serious.
The story… well it sort of has one and sort of doesn’t. For the most part, the series follows the random antics of an elite group of students known as the S.A (Special A). This usually involves any random theme you can imagine, be it competitions or festivals, whilst exaggerating the wealth of these students. This brings about some truly hilarious slapstick comedy moments, which varies depending on the character delivering the joke nevertheless some jokes can become really repetitive. Then there are times it focuses on a specific member of the S.A, providing the viewers with some much needed back-story on one the characters and developing them further. However the transitions between the comedy & drama relies too much on clichés that it becomes tiresome very quickly. Not only that but a lot of the character arcs were completely ruined during the transition from manga to anime. It also doesn’t help that the main romance between Kei & Hikari is constantly prevented from moving forward and in the end you probably would have lost interest.
Speaking of Kei & Hikari, they certainly made an interesting pair; Kei being the typical cold & calculating guy (Jun Fukuyama perfect for the job ^^) and Hikari being a sort of naïve, brutish girl. Strange combination I must say. Then there are the 5 other members of the S.A who have their individual personalities and traits, making them all an integral part of the story. They each have their own funny, intriguing and annoying side, so it just depends on which has the biggest impact on you.
The animation is exactly what you can expect from your typical shoujo anime; lustrous environments that go well with the wealthy theme and slender character designs to appeal to the standard shoujo viewers. The comedy is certainly executed well on the other hand the romance would have been perfect without the annoying effects (especially when things go artsy for a brief moment). The music here is nothing special and can get very repetitive, along with some of the dialogue. It’s only the voice actors that do a good job in bringing out the most from their characters, allowing me to give the sound department a decent score.
Overall I though that Special A began as a really great Rom/Com that could compete with something like Lovely Complex, but the countless amount of clichés and cheesy moments failed to have a positive effect on the romance and drama. The fact that the story is rather inconsistent and the characters don’t have the same feel as in the manga, will certainly disappoint the fans of the manga but those who can ignore the numerous faults will be able to enjoy this great anime for what it is.

In both anime the main leads are the best students in the school. However the female lead sees the male lead as her rival or her enemy and has no idea that he actually likes her.
I totally remember Special A when I watched this Anime series. Both a hilarious, competition of a guy and girl on top 1, both characters are good in martial arts. If you enjoyed watching Special A, you will definitely love Kaicho wa Maid-sama.
Kaichou wa Maid - Sama! is similar to Special A because of two main couples in each of these anime. In Kaichou wa Maid - Sama! There is Ayuzawa, Misaki and Usui, Takumi. Ayuzawa is very strongminded, and always tries to protect the girls in her school which was recently made co-ed. She tends to frighten the boys at her school with her quick temper, and masculine adrenaline. However, her character changes when she is discovered by a classmate Usui, that she works as a cute little maid in a cafe shop, where it mainly entertains male genders. Usui promises to keep her secret, but it comes as a price, and Ayuzawa hates him for this. However this hate/teasing relationship blossoms into love. In Special A it takes place at a school for children who are privileged. Hanazono, Hikari and Kei Takishima are the main couple. Hanazono is a girl who is in the school on scholarship. Her main ambition is to beat her rival Kei, who had beaten her in a competition when they were kids. Kei however is in love with Hanazono everyone knows this but Hanazono, who only feels that Kei is only teasing her rather than actually being in love with her. Hanazono is loud, headstrong, and comes off masculine at times. In the end Hanazono comes to realize her feelings for Kei. So the similarities between these two anime is about two couples who are oddly matched, but somehow ended up falling in love.
Personalities of Male/Female leads are VERY similar and the couple dynamic is similar too. Both set in a school environment. If you enjoyed Special A, you will most definitely like Kaichou wa Maid-sama too.
both are really similar, as many others have recommended. both are really funny and cute with a seemingly perfect male lead and a strong-willed, strong female lead....
The similarites for Special A is Hikari Hanazono is looks like Misaki ayuzawa form Kaicho Wa maid sama maybe their personality
Both have the same atmosphere. Guy is trying so hard to let the girl know that he loves her, yet she does not know her own feelings and is clouded by rivalry. Both are very Good Anime!
Both series are about a boy and girl who are on top off the class. This forms a bit of rivalry but also a close bond. In both the series the boy falls in love with the girl and tries to make her see that. If you're in for a romantic comedy, this is just your show!
Romatic comedies about girls with strong personalities, who "compete" with a bit eccentric, but handsome boys and later fall in love with them
Male protagonist who is always a step ahead of the heroine + romantic feelings
They have the same atmosphere. Where a strong, smart (yet ditzy when it comes to love), independent female with financial problems (tho they are NOT damsels in distress) and a smart, strong male who has a unique way of showing his love come together in everyday situations. Its a cute, comedy, high romance =]
Ps. the females are such good cooks lmao XD
#2 wants to beat #1... #1 falls in love with #2... #2 is clueless... they all lived happily ever after
Both Have love/rival theme between 2 main character
Similiar rivalry, romance, school drama setting.
Replace maids with elite student council.
both are a slice o life with school surroundings. both female characters look alike and have similar personalities of the 'never give up' kind that try to do things on their own. but are always protected/assisted/or challenged by the male character. both are great animes that are worth checking out. if you like one of them, your bound to like the other. (:
Similarities:
*Both have a very strong heroine GIRL ofcourse there are a lot of strong heroine girls but I find these particulary similar
* As mane girls, mane boys too are VERY similar, maybe Special A's one is more interested in love and is going towards it
* If you extremely enjoy any of these the other one will be just the right decision
* Both are heart warming and has a love story were ofourse girl is rejecting the guy because she has this wild and determined temper
VERY NICE! ;D
Girl tries to prove she's better than boy. Boy likes girl. Girl is oblivious to Boy's love to the point where you wonder if she's messed up in the head because it's so obvious.
it is very similar with kaichou wa maid sama.
both involve a poor girl(ayuzawa and hikari) who is very energetic and very strong. both work hard in thier studies and in school. both involve a boy (kei and usui) being somewhat indifferent and gradually falls in love ^^
the r both comedic and ramantic love story desuuu!! ^^
Same genres (comedy, school, shoujo, romance). Characters are also similar (Misaki and Hikari, Takumi and Kei)
Both of them has the a girl who at first dosent like the guy and happens to be great at everything in both animes, but the guy obviously likes the girl but keeps it a secert, and the guy always surpasses the girl in both animes
Both the female are hardworkers and the male is also good at what he does and very cool.
They are both Romance Comedies with love-hate relationships with the two main characters. They are both really cute!
Both animes have strong, hard-working and independent females as the lead roles.
The lead male protagonists and their relationships are also very similar. They are both the coolest and most popular boys at their school, and they both stand out from the other guys. At first they are rivals, with the male protagonists being the only ones that can beat them at anything. And the lead females are also oblivious of their romantic feelings.
the story develops between the rich and the poor.
and the story line is most likely the same
In both anime the male and the female both have the same characteristics for example in both anime the male is "number one" and the female is "number two", they male beats her in everything, the male is always saving the female, and the female is somehow always good at fighting.., while i was watching Kaichou wa Maid sama i had a slight feeling of i watched it before untill i thought of Special A!
If you watched Special A! i highly recommend you watch Kaichou wa Maid sama, or the other way around. hope you enjoy!
( My first recommendation hope i did it right)
both anime have a girl trying to overcome her "rival" and many other similarities. if you liked one, you will probably like the other.
both set in school environment
Misa-chan & Hikari 2nd place, relying on a cool guy Usui-kun & Kei
Same stuff about a poor girl who's 2nd place in everything to some popular guy that she stubbornly doesn't realize loves her.
It's both comdy/romance. And the charcters are VERY similair. Hikari has a strong will and wants to be nr. 1 and Takshima is the perfect handsome boy who is good at everything and is in with Hikari. Same goes for kaichou wa maid-sama, Misaki and Usui......
Girl characters in both end up liking the the smartest guy but, don't want to admit it
These two anime are sooo similar, they are both set in schools, and the two main characters in both are over achievers, who are pretty much amazing at everything.
Kei and Usui are literally the same person.
They both have similar comedy, aka Misaki or Hikari oblivious to Usui or Kei's obvious love for them :)
These animes, not only have a similar atmosphere throughout but it has a similar conflict, boy likes girl, girl is too naive to notice but likes him back.
Kaichou wa maid sama = Special A
Usui Takumi = Takashima Kei (Both very very smart, & look alike)
Ayzuwa Miska = Hannazo Hikari (Both look alike, Very Stoudious/smart)
Same as Usui and Misaki, Misaki dosent realize she likes Usui, Miskaki does not realize she likes him and the love slowly grows throughout the episodes.
Both Very Funny with very pretty main characters (Misaki & Hikari) Both have CUTE (sexy) boys Usui & Kei
Basically when i first started Watching Kaichou wa maid sama, i found a recommendation on Shugo Chara i was like thinking should i or should i not watch it, i mean i was like it does look cute so i was think ok i will watch it. Then after 2 episodes i was like SPECIAL A it is just like it !!!! And before i watched this anime Special A was defiantly my favorite anime but now if i were to pick which one is best they would both be first and tied, because they are both very very simuilar but one has a little but more love and one with more comedy and such and such. This is why i recommend Special A
If you are a KAICHOU WA MAID-SAMA MANIAC THEN DEFIANTLY WATCH SPECIAL A
They are similar in a way of, it has the same story, nah!nah!nah! a story that tells about a poor girl who wants to defeat an opponent (which the same happens to be a boy) in a higher rank who ends up finding her self falling in love w/ him... and in the way that these two stories are similarly has a scene's which they will need a help of that particular man! and as expected the man will suddenly appear to the rescue! woah! get it?? and similarly, there comes when the anime was about to end that the family or any relative or someone close to the man will disagree to the woman, something like that :)
Its plot has alot of similartys. if you like one you will like the other.
Both of the main characters are girls who are very hard working and consider the other guy to be their rival. Meanwhile both guys like the girl while the girls fail to realize it. They're both really good and have the same type of comedy! I love them both!
the anime is very similar to each other, but i thought that kaichou wa maid sama was way better, mostly due to the fact that special a was i thought was a bit overpowered. both protagonist are popular good looking guys who are a rich, mysterious and also excel at everything they do. Both heroines have unbelievable strength, both try really hard at everything they do and they also try land help those in need which made the protagonist interested in them.
They are so similarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you can just tell after watching each of them. They are no of events in maid sama that are a rip off of special A.Misaki & hikari both share a rivalry with usui & kei respectively although they will do anything to go ahead of them but they can't.Also they oth are dense of their feelings towards the main male character.
Simply put the main characters in both Special A and Kaichou wa maid-sama are 99.9% the same when i first watched kaichou wa maid sama all i could study was special A just watch them both u'll see what i mean
the main characters in both of them are similar...misa and hikari are both honest, hardworking, strong, pretty smart except when it come to love.....and of course they're specialist in making cannon onigiri ....as for kei and usui they're simply perfect, rich and ready to do anything for the girl they're in love with
They're kinda simillar by looks and also in attitude .. (misaki-hikari) (usui-kei) both teams and have the love and rival atmosphere ...
Strong female and perfect guy and watch their independent nature grow to rely on others
-Girl is always second place to guy
-Guy likes girl, girl doesn't notice
-Guy always annoys girl
-Shoujo
The characters are bery similar to each other for example, Misaki and Hikari are very competitive and Usui and Kei are calm, rich, good at a lot of things and both show more interest in the girl they like
haha its exactly like this
Both anime involves a bishounen, who is Mr. Top 1, falling in love with this Ms. Top 2, and this Ms. Top 2 doesn't realize that this Mr. Top 1 have feelings for her.
In Special A instead of a student counsil group they have a "top 7 students class/group" or the "Special A" class. In it only the top seven students of the school may get in. The protaganist in Special A, Hikari, wants to be number 1 to this class, as she is number 2 instead. She competes with her rival and childhood friend Takishima Kei in order to be number 1. Kei always teases and messes w/ Hikari like how Usui does to Misaki. Also Misaki seems to be very 'stubborn', as she does'nt feel the need to give up and she tries her best, much like Hikari in Special A. I saw many adds for this anime on this website and finally decided to give it a try. I bet that 97% of you out of 100 will tottaly and utterly enjoy this anime.
it is same to special a..........
This is similar to special a, because the main female protagonist of both anime is hardworking, poor, and is somehow involved with an 'inhuman' (they're human though) guy. The anime design is pretty much about the same with different plots. Both main male protagonists are rich too. I also recommend the manga.
Both have female leads that are strong, smart, and independent. Both have a school setting, one is prestegious and the other is in need of female demand (according to main character). Also may I say amazing lead counterparts! You basically get the same vibe from each of them.
They are similar beacuse:
1. They are both romance anime
2. The main character doen't realize she's in love only after many many charpers
3.They have moments were you want to pee your pants laughing
4. They have both cute moments
5. Characters and atmosphere are similar
Both anime to watch and enjoy ;)
both have super strong overachieving female lead with one guy who is always better than them and in love with them
Both about Love mixed with comedy. If you want more comedy, i think Kaichou wa maid-sama is the one for you. Special A leans to the love side little bit more. Both fun to watch and won't be disappointed.
Well, both protagonists are strong and pretty dense when it comes to love. And their leading man are super hot. :)
In both anime the female lead are pretty much clueless about love and are portraited as strong independent women. In both anime the male leads are in love with the female lead but due to personal reasons cannot convey it to her (except for the fact that the women don't realize that their pretty much crazy about them).
With time in both anime they realize their love for them. Both anime have also the same comedy and drawing style.
This animes main character along with special a's main character are almost the same person except for the fact that they are part of different plot lines.... But it's almost scary how much these two animes are alike!
Strong willed heroine who is completely ignorant to/ignoring the romantic feeling she has for her classmate. Very good!
-Diligent, thick-headed lead (Hikari....Misaki)
-Seemingly perfect rival (Kei....Usui)
The boy is the 'almost' perfect always at the top of the list, the girl is always working hard to be #1. Finally, Romantically, Girls are 'tsundere-alike' characters and boys are always teasing their feelings.
Your first impression will be "A boring anime" but try to watch it, really fun.
both main couples have similar personalities
Both shows are funny, have a romance and daily activities in every day life. Both animes also striving to their best in anyway they can.
In KwMs, the trio are the funniest of them all. Usui is the awesome character just like Takishima, their character is almost perfect. Both male leads likes a girl who is stubborn and pretty amazing ( Hikari and Misaki ).
If you liked Special A, then you might also like Kaichou wa Maid-sama. I guess there's a plenty of users who have already mentioned it, but anyways, I will just say it once more :3
The similarities are that both anime is about the relationship between a hard working girl and a talented male protagonist. The boy comes from a rish family while the girl is poor. And the most similar part is that both girls from those two anime are tump-boyish. Their personalities are like boys. However, the boy in the other side, finds it very funny to tease the girl and they develop gradually a close relationship. In Kaichou wa maid sama however, the relationship moves faster than it does in Special A. You will find it more interesting and funny to watch.
Not to mention, both anime have similar art and style. (Especially the character design of the boys)
Although the main girl isn't as dense as in Special A, both anime have plenty in common, from the guy being over affectionate without even confessing his love, to the whole competition area. Even though they're sort of similar, the storyline's completely different so yeah, pretty good anime to watch :)
both have a main heroin that possesses a strong and cheerful character while hating the main guy at first. both story has a poor girl and rich guy.
Both Animes have similar leading male & female character. Also their relation, emotions, economical status are also same. Both end in the same manner
Two powerful protagonists, Ayuzawa Misaki, and Hanazono Hikari. They both have a lover, and yet they don't even notice! The problem is Misaki, and Hikari are trying to beat their lovers.
After watching the 1st episode, Kaichou wa Maid-sama reminded me of Special A, especially the main character Misaki. Misaki and Hikari both don't like to lose.
If you want to see the exact same series all over again, then watch Kaichuo wa Maid-sama. The similarities are uncanny.
First of all, the lead male and female look similar. Then, the female belongs to a poor family. The guy is considered to be the most handsome, intelligent and strongest guy in school. The girl is intelligent and hardworking but always comes second to him. Basically, both the leads are good at everything. Then, the girl is really dense.
same shit :) amm...because I said so...
Both has a male lead with blond hair who are totally perfect in all aspects, haha.
kei and usui give off the same kind of feel like they were ment to resemble one another personality and look wise the girl they both are in love with are both clueless and do not except them as anything other then rivals they can not beat. kei and usui are also similar by the way they both risk everything to protect the ones they love its also has the same comedy feeling were the guys also sexually harasse the girls
In both anime, the main female and main male characters are basically "perfect," with the female always trying to outdo the male. Both main female characters can't cook. Both main male characters are considered cool and popular. Both have a romance between the two main characters.
Both are cute, and funny and romantic~
In both animes the main characters are really smart and strong, and the girls are both very very dense.
The main characters both male( Usui and Kei) and female( Misa and Hikari) are all actually extremely similar, respectively. Which is, for once, a great thing, because they were simply spectacular. Both shows have amazing comedy and some romance. The romance is a little angsty (more so in KwMS) but the comedy in both is very similar, in that it usually has the male lead messing with everyone else somehow :D
Special A and Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! are both similar as the two female protagonists are strong, protective over themselves and do have a crush on the male however both males are also strong, but in Special A Hikari Hanazono (female lead) isn't as strong as Kei Takishima (male lead) but in Maid-Sama Misaki Ayukawa (female lead) shows to be stronger than Takumi Usui (male lead) in one episode as she -spoiler- fought two 'bad people' just as Takumi Usui was about to come in for the rescue.
In conclusion their characters have similar personalities, they both involve heart ache and enduring love. I recommend both of these anime to anyone who enjoys romantic anime.
These two are a lot alike. Both love stories with girls who are oblivious to their feelings and the feelings of their love interest. They see the love interest as a rival or sorts.
Special A doesn't have much of the fanservice of Maid-sama, but it has adorable beta couples and just as equally a lovable cast.
I think people who enjoyed Maid-sama would also take an interest in SA.
The main character's are similar in personality. They're both romantic comedies and slice of life.
Main girl protagonists are hard working but clueless when it comes to romance.
Main guy protagonists are naturally better than the girl at everything.
The stories follow the girl protagonists slowly falling in love with the main guy protagonists.
In both anime the main leads are the best students in the school. However the female lead sees the male lead as her rival or her enemy and has no idea that he actually likes her.
and most of episode concept are alike ..
When I'm Watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama I'm thinking about something it has some similarity to the one I watch before then I remember it's almost the same with Special A both girls are competitive and the boy is ahead from them :))
These animes are really good and have:
- Romance+Comedy+School life
- A girl with a strong will.
- A boy who is capable to do anything.
There is a girl and boy who share the same relationship as Misaki and this guy He keeps annoying Misakii (like in special a) and they end up realizing they like each other and than start dating
Both have strong willed, independent girls who like to take control and be the best at everything
both main girl protagonists dont know that the boy protagonist is falling in love with them
both girls develop feelings for the boy, without them addressing the issue, and are unable to confess to the boy or their own self
both are situated in schools surrounded by the all familiar cast of slice of life comedy and reality mixing in between.
both have other boy protagonists rivals to win the girl over
both boys love to tease the girl
similar in the slow shoujo type love within school grounds, and troubles/misunderstandings along the way, but they are both pleasant to watch.
Both have very strong and stubborn female leads, and a male lead that is interested only in the female lead. Both introduce the idea of 'perfect' people, often leading to the characters performing impossible tasks that would never happen in real life. Though Maid-sama deals more with the relationship between the main leads, Special A also includes relationships between supporting characters, who have very interesting histories. They share a similar feel to them, and the art in both is great. =.=
they both involve the main guy character falling in love with the main girl and the girl is completely oblivous
Very similar,
both anime has same type girl main character,
strong, ambitious, but isn't sensitive with romance.
and also same boy main character,
cool, mysterious & 'perfect'.
the aim of both of girl main character is to defeat the boy.
overall the story almost same,
but i think kaichou wa maid-sama more funny.
The plots and the characters are very similar between the two. The two female leads both have very strong and competitive personalities and the way the stories unfold are very close to each other :D
The main characters look a lot similar, both the main guy characters have a secret love for the main girl characters, & both of the guy & girl main characters love each other
Similar rival type relationship at first
Special A is pretty similar to Kaichou wa Maid-sama, as the two main characters who have a romance going on between them, are rivals. But in both cases, the girl (Hikari and Misaki), is more passioned about it.
The characters are really alike, and the plot is basically the same as Kaichou wa Maid-sama. There is more "rivalry" though
The guy likes the girl, but in both, the girls are too dense to realize. Also, while both characters are strong physically and academically, they are oblivious to other people's feelings too. Neither of these are pure drama, as the contain humor too.
So both are great romantic comedies with a great guy who really likes a competitive girl but she doesnt notice him till the last few episodes.
Pretty obvious recommendation. The lead characters are similar between the shows (I liked Usui better than Kei though). And they're both romance and comedy with school related themes. The rivalry between the characters is a huge similarity. And both female leads are completely clueless. Special A went into more development on the side characters.
This anime series has everything you need if you liked Special A! From kawaii girls, to love story, to romantic stories, etc. Highly recommended
both of them are romantic and about school life , the boy falls for the girl but instead of a confession he intends to annoy the girl .... in a comedian way XD
They both have a guy that likes them.
The end kiss.
The rice related food.
The black hair.
This is so similar to Kaichou wa maid sama because they both have a leading guy and girl and they are the smartest kids in school. In both of the anime the girl doesn't know that she is in love with the guy until the very end. Both of the girls are smart, strong, and very bad cooks. You'll love both of these anime, I know I did!!!!!
Both have the very strong female characters which is very unlikely or different from the typical "frail and weak" female protagonists. It's definitely refreshing this way!
These to are very funny and amazing
This anime is great if you like Maid-Sama! The romance is cute and funny just like in Maid Sama! I loved them both and you will definitely like this if you like Maid Sama!
both of them are about a boy and a girl in highschool. the boy loves the girl but the girl will not accept it. She fights with him constantly but in the end falls in love with the boy.
They both have a main character who are incredibly strong and pretty, but in both animes there's a boy who is much stronger than them and eventually they turn into crushes. Both of the boys are very strong and good looking.
Both have very strong, determined female main characters. The girl is always behind the boy in terms of skills and smarts, and it bothers them. They refuse to lose to the boy, and try hard to beat them.
The main boys is the one who first liking the girl and they try to make the girls fall for them. They're very popular at school because of their good looks, their kind personalities and their smarts.
Similar characters and plot line. In both a cool and composed all-around talented English boy falls for a studious girl who sees the boy as her competition.
These anime's both have a rich & smart male lead, who wants the sweet & helpful female lead. The female also resists in both anime's at first. Similar & good animation as well. Also, lots of romance!
Special A is not as kinky as Kaicho wa Maid-sama but the main female characters are very similar, hard working types. Special A has something that maid sama was missing, more main charcters. and they have good intertwined back stories. The comedy is on the same level as Maid-sama and there's the same playoff of one person who is very in love and another who is not.
They both revolve around school life. The main protagonists are a boy and girl who are always trying to best the other. The girl, no matter how hard she tries, can never trump him. However, this does not stop her from persevering to try to accomplish the impossible.
Special A a class of genius in their own extend of ability. But the best is Takishima Kei a student who gets above 100% score and who call his rival Miss Second Place her name Hikari the best of all the girls physically, mentally and many more but she couldn't beat Kei.
Kei's talent is world class, similarly to Usui who manage many big companies for his family and at the same time being a student. Hikari and Misaki's alike in attitude but in affiliations are a little bit different.
Try to watch this Lovey-doopey anime. You'll enjoy it. =))

Special A and Ouran High School Host Club are both shoujo comedies that center around a somewhat special group of high school students. In Special A this group is an elite class of the best students in school while in Ouran its a "host club". Still, the characters in both groups are eerily similar; in both groups you have a perfect male (lead), a cool reserved character, a cute character and a guy who appears to be a dummy.
Also both animes (being shoujo) center around a very clueless (but strong) heroine. Both shows have a lot of silly comedy. The character designs are alike. Overall both animes have the same feel, so I think that fans of one of them will like the other.
The atmosphere of Ouran High and Special A are the same with those students who enjoy themselves staying in a luxurious room and leisurely spend their days are very much similar. Though Ouran High is much more comedic than special A, still I could say that if you liked Ouran High there's a high possibility that you would also like Special A.
Both have a comedy genre which makes them both fun to watch.Random things appear all the time and you can't help but love all the characters
Both are closely similar... Hikari, a talented girl raised under a normal family, attends a prestigious and elite school. She gets to be a member of a special class of rich and bright students who goof and fool around. Ouran is just like that too...
The story is kinda similar.
First, both are absolutely different from their manga counterparts. Second, both involve an elite group of students, be they the best looking ones (Ouran), or the top students (Special A). Third, both are drop dead hilarious. Finally, both involve the leading member of the group (Kei and Suou) liking an extremely dense female member of the group (Hikari and Haruhi).
Speical A has the a bunch of Rich Kids doing what they do best, just like in Ouran. It also has really great characters like Ouran, but what makes this fancy is that it follows the romantic story of each character. It will make you laugh and brighten up your day when you are feeling down.
Special A and Ouran Host Club have the same general feel. Each features a group of distinct characters with slight focus on the relationships between the male and female leads. If you like the comedic adventures and exaggerated animation style of Ouran, Special A is certainly worth a try.
Well firstly, both are shoujo comedy school slice-of-life anime. both shows the dramas of each member of a special group of friends. ouran is romantic in that the club is set up to entertain women, whilst special is romance in the sense that most of the characters have their own love story and pair up. however, both have similar atmospheres. ouran's comedy is better, but special a still has it's fair share. they even end nearly the same!! many scenes reminded me of the other.
Both have a club consisting of rich, beautiful and talented students. The main girl from both series are the oddballs out as far as money is concerned. The romance situations have the main guy in love with the main girl who doesn't even take notice. The comedy is about equal, though in my opinion, I found SA more comical.
Having seen one of the two, it's impossible to see the other without being constantly reminded of the first.
Both great cute Anime where the girl is not really a push over and the guys aren't jerks!! Very funny, great characters.
well..its both about school and a special club..in OHHC it has host club..while in special a it has this special class for top7 student..i found some episode similar in some ways..like in the last episode..where tamaki is going to france while kei is going to ??(the main branch of takashima)..it is both comedy..and emotional in some episode but more on in comedy..
I believe they have some similarities in the fact that there is this "elite" group in school to which only a few are allowed. And there is this display of wealthiness from a couple of its members, it shows in the kind of activities they make. A lot of bishounen running around too, with wicked father or mother figures. I suppose these are common traits in anime that are mostly developed in school. Also the wealthiest boy , or at least the one that shines the most, is in love with a girl of humble origins who is into studying and has a strong personality.
Both revolve around a prestegious group of students and most of them are extremally wealthy. They both have the same type of comedy and are both very good animes if your looking to just relax and laugh. Also I think if you like HaruhixTamaki, you'll love HikarixKei
Both are about a group of people that have gathered together. The leader of both anime likes the protagonist .They are both romantic comedies and are shoujo .There are also a similarity in characters,Tamaki from Ouran is like Tadashi from SA,Kyouya from Ouran is like Kei from SA,Haruhi from Ouran is like Jun from SA,Takeshi(Mori-Sempai) from Ouran is like Ryuu from SA.Both shows also have a pair of twins,Hikaru and Kaoru (both Boys)from Ouran and Jun and Megumi(One boy one girl) from SA.Another suprise is that both groups consists of 7 people. Also in both shows only the protagonists are not rich.So mch similarity in both shows but they both develop in different ways.Still i liked both so why wont you?
If you liked Ouran you willl love "special A",Both are romantic comedys, about an Average girl who acts more like a boy, hanging out with rich people in a special class/club.
They're similar in a lot of ways, also the characters relate to each other a lot.
hehehe really really similar to me :P...host club having trips and festival together...different situations ..rich family boys ..Special A is really really similar to that...both are really really funny!!!! :D also 7 - 7...just in special A 3 are girls where in ouran only 1 is girl :)
Is base on almost the same place with the similar romance comedy.
Well Both have Story About School and special class and both have story about special class love
The story revloves around elite high school students. If Ouran revolves around rich characters, S.A revolves around the intelligent students. They are packed with comedy but if Ouran is more of a slice of life genre, S.A is more of a romance anime. They way how both stories end is similar.
In both anime's there are elite class students and one normal (commoner) person, romance between main characters, great humor, related to school and both have 7 friend's brought together.
I found the both Anime to be very similiar, both are talking about school life, each of the Anime are focusing the school life on Private Groups that the main characters take part in, While Ouran High School talks about a school of rich people and a private Host Club, Special A talks about rich people that are in the private special group of the smartest students.. xD make sure you watch them both!
They are both about a group of high school students in a 'club' of some sort. (Host Club for Ouran and selective students for Special A) The school is both for rich kids with the main character in both being female, being a commoner but still getting into the school anyway. The female main is also every smart in both of them, S.A 2nd in school and Haruhi top of grade. They also both have love problems within their group. Not to mention they are both funny with those hilarious signs.
Well, both anime are really awesome.
Both are comedy, romance, school life, shoujo..
Both have a main female char that is 'poor' but talented and goes in a special elite school/class..
Both series have a extremly good char design, both can be funny, both can be romantic.. Both have characters really good definited.~
I suggest to watch both.. believe me, both worth it! :3
Special A = Ouran High School Host Club + School Rumble
Pompous, rich and good-looking people that can do anything and everything to perfection and are clearly superior to all humans and even posses hearts of gold.... check.... Male lead in love with the totally adorable and equally dense and clueless female lead who doesn't notice his feelings even if slapped in the face with them..... check.... ^^
+All 3 are fantastic series
they are very similar... characters, humor... Host Club is more funny, special A is cuter ^^
Ouran is a really funny anime! Every character is special in itself. and the same goes for SA. but Ouran has more individually gone into each character.
almost the same 1 girl and the others are boys; rich school;not so fancy girl; cute girl;comedy;love story
Ouran Host club and Special A have a similar mood going...
both deal with some high school for the rich n a normal talented
young girl that somehow gets caught up with a certain group/club
of the elite...even though they both have their slight differences...
they're both romantic comedies that are completely watchable^^
Both about school life and its about the girl with her rich friends.
These series are EXTREMELY simillar because:
*There is one commoner among the superelite students
*They like being with each other and they are like family
*The main guy is in love with the main girl and the girls doesn't show feelings for him
*Even in Special A in the end of series they do a host club
*Endings are extremely similar becuase the main guy is taken away and everyone tries to bring him back
Well Special A is more deep and romantic than Ouran xD
these tow are too similar to each other .. both talks about 7 students .. the main girl is poor and while the rest are rich .. and a lot of similar situations ..
Same situation, one commoner and a bunch of close rich friends in a really prestigious school. the guy that likes her looks a lot like tamaki. It's also really funny and sweet.
Both Have Hilarious Characters
Both are romance
Great Story/Plot
Both are in special High Class schools
They both have this setting where a normal girl goes to a prestigious school attended by rich kids, but still manages to cope and fit in. Both series have comedy and romance thrown in (though in Ouran the romance is more evident in the manga).
Both have the essence of comedy and romance, and they have a similarity of the story outline which held in school with rich and famous people. Also the similarity of some characters is a bit matched, and surely both will give laughter at the end.
Both Ouran High School Host & Special A have a student, which is the main character, who is attending an elite school & is an oddball who does not fit in well when it comes to money. Haruhi from OHSHC & Hikari from Special A are both very dense when it comes to love & they do not realize that Tamaki [OHSHC] & Kei [S.A.] love them. They also share a couple of the same episodes, [I hope I don't ruin this for you guys] including the time when the Host Club & Special A visited the main character's house. Coincidentally, the Host Club & Special A both have seven members, including Haruhi & Hikari. Both are also comedies and I enjoyed watching every episode of both series. All in all, if you have watched one of the two, I recommend you watch the other. OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB & SPECIAL A ROCK ! (:
If you liked Ouran Host Club, then you will surely appreciate Special A, a mix of love, comedy, good looking and rich guys, who will capture your heart! Strongly recommended.
both are funny as well as there is some romance. if u prefer friendship over romance then ouran high is perfect where as u want everyone to have their pair then u will surely like special A
They both depict the lives of students in highly exclusive schools. There were a lot of fun moments in both, though I find Ouran to be far superior in almost every aspect.
initial character design is very similar however developement more unexpected i would recomend watching ouran high first as SA goes as far as to openly spoof ouran thats how close they are please watch one if you have watched the other
Romance, school, slice of life, comedy, both feel-good series ^^
If you like something funny like Ouran High School Host Club than you might as well like Speacial A!These two manga/anime are the best comedy I seen yet. They also have a little romance in them. But mostly comedy. So atch it you might find yourself laughing before you know it!!!
School settings with plenty of romance and humor to go around. Main characters are all funny as hell and give off good feelings.
The setting for both animes are in school. Their stories revolve around a special group of people who are rich and special. The plots are really entertaining and funny!
These both have romance and comedy at prestigious school clubs
Special A seems like a copy of Ouran High School Host Club that is not superior to Ouran High School Host Club. But if you are still looking for a humourous anime to watch that is similar to Ouran High School Host Club, try Special A.
Special A and Ouran High School Host club are very similar in storyline. Both are Romance+ Comedy animes and the endings are very similar because in both the girl and the boy jump off something (Clock tower + Bridge). The build-up is also fairly similar as the girl is clueless that the guy(s) like her.
Both focus around school life, and are romantic and funny in their own way :)
You'll love them both.
Main characters are similar. Both of them are awesome shoujo series. The only difference is that Special A is romance, while Ouran is parody. Both of them are great.
Both involve a group of elite rich kids who go about their daily lives. Each have more than a daily dose of comedy (chibis galore, everyone! ^^) and a little romance (Special A much more so than Ouran). All the characters are also made out to be extremely attractive, and often have moments where they are surrounded by roses (Ouran) or doilies( Special A) to promote this sort of appeal.(There's also quite a bit of squealing and fangirling among the background characters in both. 0.0) We also get to see some of the hardships of each character's past or current homelives in both. There's a lot of differences of course, but the only big differences are that 1) The main male lead is much, much smarter and moe serious than the main female lead in Special A, wheras it's reversed in Ouran. In fact, Hikari is pretty much the female version of Tamaki. ^^ and 2) There's much more drama in special A than in Ouran.
These two series are almost one in the same. Had the characters in Special A looked like the cast of Ouran I would've been fooled completely into thinking there was a season two of OHSHC. If you like Special A, there's no doubt you will love Ouran.
Special A is like Ouran without the harem.
Ouran is like Special A but with better jokes.
Special A actually has some vestige of a plot if you stick with it.
Ouran KNOWS its ridiculous and by merit of that manages to be fantastic.
They are both distinctly shoujo. They are cute. They are funny. They have romances.
They both take place with a school that houses a prestigous group. Both are a comedy and both have a similar feel. The animation in each series is unique and beautiful with great color.
Both are highly recommended.
Both anime have girls of low social classes attending a prestigious school, and both anime are LOADED with comedy! As far as length goes, they have almost the same amount of episodes.
Both of these deal with a specific group of high school kids and strangely enough their main protagonists are both "poverish", young girls!! Many similarities, yet so many differences, but somehow they're one in the same! Fun, hilarity, and drama are packed with the complicated and interesting lives of each character. And as it always is in animes like this, almost every character is loveable in their very own special way.
you'll probably like this because the story revolves around the life of a hghschool student
The drawing is similar to Ouran, this is nice comedy with romance. And ending is as... unusual as in Ouran xd
Both animes take place in school where the main characters are treated specially. Both include rich and social standings, where the main heroine is middle-class. Somewhat of a reverse harem (in Special A the other main girl even dotes on the heroine). The love interests have somewhat of a love-hate relationship. The males are very protective of the girls they like. School-life, lots of comedy, gorgeous guys, and a growing romance from episode one make these anime two of my favorites.
Both story are comedy romance based upon school life of isolated elite group of teenagers with their interest in one common girl among them and the changes which that commoner brings to their life.
it's set in a school, each with a kinda of "club" where the main character gets attached to...
also, the climax of the story is similar, where the "head/king" plans to go overseas for the sake of the main character.
They are both a high school comedy/romance.
Both shows include rich, beautiful and talented students in "elite" groups. Special A is a group of smart, talented kids from the school. Host Club is a group of handsome young men a "commoner" girl who has to pay back a debt.
In both shows the main character guy is in love with the girl, but the girl is to naive, and never notices.
Both shows are full of comedy, romance, and drama. And you will fall in love with the characters from both shows.
Ouran High Sch
If you like Ouran, you'll love SA!
Both shows include a 'commoner' girl that enrolled in a school with extremely rich people.
Shows another story of love, rich main and sides characters, and also one of them (the most pretty and intelligent) falls in love with the 1fragile but strong' main girl. In both of the stories, the girl isn't rich like the others.
They both have to do with love and a group of friends... All special in their own way and very popular throughout the school because of it.
> both series have genres that contain comedy/romance/drama
> both have a club made up of really rich students aparts from the female lead
however ouran high school focuses more on the comedy while special A does let the romance part develop ish. if you enjoyed one of them you wil definitely enjoy the other.
Special A is similar to Ouran as it has it's own group. It is also full of hilarious moments and romances. I would highly recommend this one.
Both shows have a group of friends, all of them are great students, all of them are good friends and during the show their past is revealed. Also, there's a good balance of romance and humor.
both of these is about high school life then hikari in special a and haruhi from ouran is similar both of them came from poor family then the school they study all the students are rich
They're both romance comedies with lots of interesting characters. The female main characters Haruhi - OHSHC - and Hikari - SA - are smart and successful girls. Something they share is that they're almost too thick headed to know that the boys like them. This leads, of course, to hilarious and/or embarrassing situations.
The male main characters Kei - SA - and Tamaki - OHSHC - are both rich, handsome, intelligent and they share the same air of confidence.
These anime are really funny and are worth checking out!
Same atmosfeer, same kind of elite group, same kind of feeling.
Both shoujo, romance, comedy. If u love one of them you will definitly love the other. I personally loved S.A. more due the fact dat haruhi isn't 'being a girl' all the time (what I really don't like about it...) and the fact that I also liked Kaoru too end with her :P
Also Special A is more romance than ouran high school :)
They are both about elite high school students. It's very likely that if you liked Ouran, you will enjoy Special A.
Special A really reminded me of Ouran. Lots of comedy, plenty of character development, and of course the obvious: a poor girl befriending a group of elite students. The endings really reminded me of each other. Special A is more romantic - and there are plenty of side romances as well.
both of them take place at a very expensive school. They both are about a group of friends and the main characters are a boy and a girl who in the end fall in love. they are both a romanic comedy that are super cute! if you liked one of these you would probably like the other.
Both of these involve a special part of a private school, in Ouran Koukou host club's case, it's a host club, and in Special A, it's the top 7 students on the school.
In Special A, there's more rivalry with the first and second placed students, however both were designed to be comical, When I think of one or the other, the other one always comes to mind!
If you like one, you'll most likely like the other!
