Nanatsu no Taizai

In a world similar to the European Middle Ages, the feared yet revered Holy Knights of Britannia use immensely powerful magic to protect the region of Britannia and its kingdoms. However, a small subset of the Knights supposedly betrayed their homeland and turned their blades against their comrades in an attempt to overthrow the ruler of Liones. They were defeated by the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that these legendary knights, called the "Seven Deadly Sins," were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights themselves staged a coup d’état, and thus became the new, tyrannical rulers of the Kingdom of Liones.

Based on the best-selling manga series of the same name, Nanatsu no Taizai follows the adventures of Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her search for the Seven Deadly Sins. With their help, she endeavors to not only take back her kingdom from the Holy Knights, but to also seek justice in an unjust world.

The Seven Deadly Sins is an incredibly captivating anime that manages to pull you in before you even realize it. One of its strongest points lies in the dynamic and chemistry between the main group – the Seven Deadly Sins themselves. Their interactions are engaging, full of charm, humor, and emotion, and it’s hard not to grow attached to each of them as the story unfolds.

Visually, the anime has a lot going for it. I especially appreciated the outdoor settings — sunny fields, rustic villages, open skies — which create a bright and adventurous atmosphere that sets it apart from darker or more confined fantasy ... stories. The world feels alive and open, and that sense of space really enhances the viewing experience.

However, despite its many strengths, I couldn’t help but notice some inconsistencies in the anime’s direction that slightly disrupted its overall tone and immersion. While the animation is generally good, there are clear irregularities in the artwork and character designs throughout various episodes. These inconsistencies suggest changes in the animation team or shifts in quality control, which can be distracting at times. Compared to other recent high-profile anime, The Seven Deadly Sins does fall short in terms of visual polish and production consistency.

Still, the story is infectious and the characters are easy to love. Even with its production hiccups and occasional missteps in direction, The Seven Deadly Sins delivers an entertaining and emotionally resonant ride. It’s not perfect, but it has enough heart and energy to keep you watching.

Mixed Feelings

I think my love for this show is largely based on nostalgia, as it was the anime that really got me into the genre. While it wasn't my first anime—that would be Pokémon, followed by Glitter Force—it was the first one I recognized as anime, since I was older than five. It introduced me to shonen, and it sums up the genre well with its highs, lows, and quirky relationships, which I find charming and comforting. It's a guilty pleasure, and I believe it serves as a solid introduction to shonen for those new to anime. It's a good benchmark for comparing other anime—is it ... better or worse than The Seven Deadly Sins? The premise isn't overly complex or inventive, but the characters are solid and enjoyable, especially if you're building your anime journey. I realize that intermediate anime fans might find it boring, but I'd definitely recommend it to people looking to get into anime :)

This is one of those animes that 12 year olds and angsty teenagers will love for all the action, shock and awe, and ethically questionable shameless fanservice. But if you are even a normally functioning, semi decent human being, you'd be embarrassed at yourself for ever watching and liking this as you grow older.

The characters pulls powers out of their asses in fight scenes. Overused Clichés and tropes thrown around at the walls to see what sticks. Character Motovations doesn't makes sense. Main protagonist is a child looking overpowered walking deus ex machina with a hidden edgy powerup mode who fails willingly when its ... plot convenient. And he molests the primary female protagonist at every opportune or inopportune moments he can get his hands on her, and no one calls him out on this except the mascot character which is also a joke character. The said female character feel neither disgusted nor accepting of this inappropriate sexual behavior as she exists solely to let the Male protagonist have his way. And some other female main characters are lusting after the said male star at some point relevant enough to become part pf the plot. This show will make you wonder if this was some failed attempt at making an ecchi harem, repurposed at the last moment to create a shounen out of it. The titacular: seven deadly sins do not actually embody the concepts of the sin they are named after, like someone thought it would be cool to name characters after the sins but then gave not another thought.

The only good thing about this show: the fight scenes, drops the animation bar hard by the 4th season, to the point it becomes an eyesore. I'd strongly recommend against watching this anime as you are probably better off reading the manga or even the synopsis of this whole and see if it floats your boat.
