To sum it up without doing major spoilers
-The MC gets framed and betrayed
-He is isolated and Alone
-His primary weapon is a shield and has no main Weapon
-HE uses his intellect and resourcefulness to overcome obstacles.
-He is not guilable, he is bitter, resentful, untrusting and adaptable but honest persona( still not very trusting of others but good to the ones he is close)
-It has Good Action and Tacticfull Warfare
-Politics and Negotiations are a thing.

These are just some of the qualities that make the story so good.

sounds almost like Re:Zero, though it sounds like the protagonist starts off more capable than Subaru (Subaru can be pretty observant and tactical, but he is rash, hotheaded and arrogant)

If I had to describe it using popular anime then it's like SAO but MC more like Subaru (a bit, complete opposite on some aspects).
Not a good comparsion tho as it's not even remotelly as bland as SAO

Just as @jc9622 said, can someone, without too many spoilers, explain what is it about?
And what's so good about it?

Can agree it did seem like a lot of baseless targeting of one character for no reason, but as you get further into the story you get to hear about a lot of background information on shield heros. Stuff like people being very unwelcoming of past shield heros, religions(cults) that exclude the shield hero from being worshiped like the other three heros, and information that in the past the Shield hero favored the Demi-humans (who are hated by regular people and as you probably know enslaved a lot). So when you take all that in you can understand their blind hate towards the main character a bit more.

I mean if your people had bad history with a specific type of person, then you could understand them having prejudice towards that type of person in future encounters, but all the same it was a tad bit much with how they did it right from the get go. Though you'll find that besides how it was done, the fact that it was done does help shape the main character's personality, and in the end it makes him a lot more interesting and charming (at least in my opinion).

Omg, yes! I've been needing this in my life for so long. I just hope they don't water down his spiteful attitude.

This is my favorite light novel and the book that got me into reading manga so I am super happy hope it gets a good studio and good voice actors for Nafoumi and Rapthalia.

oh yeah, if this succes, will ubel blatt get adaptation too?

I don't think so. How can you compare these two series in the first place. Tate no yuusha is not nearly as edgy as uber blatt. Seconsly with all the violence and nudity they'll have to censor the hell out of it or probably have to make it an ova series , which won't bring that much income. On the other hand, adapting Drifters brings a bit of hope on the table, soooo we may never know

The manga used to be quite edgy at the beginning and went downhill afterwards, turning into a harem, which made me lose interest and dropped it. I hope the anime don't take the same path as the manga. Still, I don't know if the series gets better at the newer chapters so Idk if the anime will be any good at its second half

This is actually the first LN series that I've bought and read and I was just talking to my friends about how wonderful would it be if Shield Hero got a TV anime. Turns out it's been already announced OMG lol.

I think they'll probably cover the first 4 books with around 24-26 episodes (possibly a split-cour)
My only worry now is the studio.

I don't get why people call him edgy for acting angry, vengeful, and distrustful towards other people. I mean he was falsely accused of rape and was one-sidedly got judged as guilty by the people (even the other heroes) without proper trial. Do you expect him to just go "you know what? You accused me of rape but that's fine because it's not like getting accused and being guilty of rape is a big deal right?"

I really don't get why people would classify such a natural reaction as a result of edgyness.
