Stories of old tell of four otherworldly heroes—wielding the sword, spear, bow, and shield—who defended the land from wave after wave of calamity. With the fate of the world in balance, the kingdom of Melromarc summons these legendary figures; in modern-day Japan, the call is answered, and the unwitting heroes are transported to this fantasy universe.

Thrust into Melromarc and given the title of "Shield Hero," otaku Naofumi Iwatani is labeled the weakest due to his lack of offensive capability and apparent inexperience. When the heroes part ways to start their journeys, he only has one willing companion: the beautiful princess Malty Melromarc. However, she soon betrays him, steals all his money, and accuses him of taking advantage of her.

For his alleged crimes, Naofumi is branded a criminal and made outcast of society. With hatred filling his heart, he sets out alone, vowing vengeance against those who wronged him.

First review was taken down so figured I would try again.

This is a really good series and I highly recommend it, "why?" because it has unique twist to the transported to another world story that you can’t help but feel drawn to and it has amazing characters that you will appropriately hate or love depending on the authors intention. I can't recommend this enough for I truly love reading this and I feel anybody could pick it up and love it with its high amount of detail and unique twists so hope on the shield hero express and try it out.

To start off, i would like to say i read all of the Web Novel, rather than the light novel. Thus, that is what my translation is based off of. It's very biased, and it feels more like a bashing rather an actual review. But i do hope people will give it a read anyways.

Story: 3/10
Art: 7/10
Characters: 5/10
Enjoyment: 5/10
Overall: 4.

It was quite the adventure.
It was absolutely horrifying.
I saw a perfectly fine piece of litteratur, a piece that was no masterpiece nor trash, a piece that i enjoyed to my heart's content, i saw a piece like that just go into a decline and devolve from read more

Tate no Yuusha has become tied with Sword Art Online as my favorite Japanese Light Novel as of writing this review.

The basis behind Tate no Yuusha is fairly simple. Four heroes are summoned from different Japans in order to fight against the invasion of monsters from something called the "Wave." At periodic intervals marked by a special hourglass, the monsters will attack and it is up to the four summoned heroes to defeat the monsters. However, what separates it is the fact that the main character, Naofumi, is rejected as a hero and quickly chooses to become an anti-hero due to circumstances. We also see read more

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari is something like a mix of akame ga kill, Sword art online/Log horizon, Dungeon Ni Deai Wo Motomeru No Wa Machigatteiru Darou ka and a main character that you can't dislike (almost like in Yahari ore no seishun love comedy wa Machigatteiru). Plot is just like in some other light novels about being sent to another world and that's the part that really grasped my heart, that the main character is just (more or less) like a normal person. You can see that he's not a hero type but yet, he's getting popular with everyone even after being framed and read more

Isekai Quartet: Filling in the Empty Seats

Isekai Quartet is the biggest crossover in anime history, but there's still plenty of room for even more popular isekai characters! Here's how that could play out.
