My enjoyment of anime comes from the fact that it's a medium able to express itself differently from Reality TV, Cartoons, Movie, etc.
I tend to enjoy older anime that feed of that Nostalgia feeling.
Reminding me of my youth where wasn't aware it was a medium of entertainment.
Older anime isn't so vibrantly colored and its characters don't look out place; hence that's what newer anime tend to be.
I love anime that's compelling, engaging, character and plot driven.
Characters have to be the driving force in an anime, for me.
If they don't interest me, then why would their main goal/plot interest me?
There are just some shows were they require zero though and
those are fine as long but often times don't leave a long lasting impression.
Anime that tries to differentiate itself from it's own medium, those leave
an everlasting impression.
When done right can be the most engaging and powerful stories that leave a place in our heart.
Those are the one in a few anime that I strive to watch.

Also, I don't think that kind of hook is childish at all! In fact, I think it works far better than the philosophical claptrap intros a lot of pro reviewers here favor since it strikes home with a lot of MAL's non-English readers.
Thanks for the compliment! I don't have a lot of helpful votes in mine (except Demi-chan since none of the famous MAL reviewers reviewed it for some reason) but I write them for the purpose of fun and practice anyways so it's all good.
