Arakawa's career started with a one-shot titled STRAY DOG, but she is best known for creating Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, which she's received the Shogakukan Manga Award, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award (New Artist Prize) and the Shinsei Prize. Before creating Hagane no Renkinjutsushi she was Etou Hiroyuki's assistant writer for Mahoujin Guruguru.
She's a friend of Shakugan no Shana's author Takahashi Yashichirou, and also Segami Akira.
She gave birth to a son in 2007.
Aiya Kyu was an assistant of hers. Inariya Fusanosuke was possibly another assistant of her who became a BL mangaka in 2002.
Her self-portrait is usually that of a bespectacled cow, as she was born and raised on a dairy farm in Hokkaido with three older sisters and a younger brother. She worked as a farmer for 8 years before moving to Tokyo.

Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon) is a rare anime and in a class of its own. Despite nestling into the very crowded slice of life genre, this anime focuses on the unusual yet interesting world of Japan’s agricultural high schools. The characters within are as full of life as the animals they care for!
As a “slice of life” anime, Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon) gives us a sneak peek into regular Japanese high school life. While most other anime focus on more generic high schools in cities and suburbs, Gin no Saji places us right into a Japanese agricultural high school. Find out more.
