It's hard to believe that I've been digging into anime since the 80s, but it's true! At 32, I've found that anime has been a longtime passion of mine. I enjoy most genres, but I especially love action, fantasy and most definitely science-fiction sci-fi. I love Naruto, Steins;Gate, D-Grayman, GATE, World Trigger, Charlotte, Dragon Ball, and many many others.
No the conversation between winry and Riza does not pass the bechdel test, the bechdel does not consider the context or the nature of the conversation it only cares about that there is conversation happening between two women and that the catalyst for the conversation is not a man, in the case of that conversation they reason they talked about the military and winry voicing her disapproval is cause they are trying to recruit ed and she doesn't want her to go. Not to mention you are only accounting for how early the conversations happen and not how many there or how prelevant to the overall story they are. In gintama there are more conversations that pass the bechdel test than there are in fullmetal alchemist Brotherhood.

Most popular anime have cute girls, whether or not they have a plot. All "CGDCT" anime do is remove the plot from that combination. Regardless if you have cute girls or not, making an engaging anime without a plot is not something you can follow a formula with.

Just saw your movie article, and it was in such an exact order as I would have put it I couldnt not write a comment to say it was great ! Though I would have replaced Ookami Ame&Yuki with Perfect Blue :)
Read your article and at first I thought it was quite good but then I realized how you rated them. You graded the anime by how many episodes it took 2 females characters to talk instead of total of all the episodes the anime released. (For example, you gave Gintama "B" because it took 6 episodes to pass (out of all 316 eps), whereas for Steins;Gate you gave it an A for passing the test in 2nd episode (out of total 24 eps). Not fair measurement.
Also you didn't pointed out if the anime really requires more female characters, for example take the generic shounen or military genre anime. They don't show much female characters because it wouldn't suit for it to have many. Still a good try for an article.

Your article was stupid. Legend of Galactic Heroes has 2 very major female characters who are vital to the plot, and rarely discuss men. You didn't watch the show.
