Hi I am Ankith from India. I am a crazy fan of anime and can complete about 600 episodes in a month. I am a big fan of detective genre and mind games since i rate them more.My First introduction to anime was Death note and code geass was the one which made me the fan of anime and rest of the comments about anime are written in anime list against each anime. I also write reviews. "Please check out my drawings and give a feedback if possible"

'Hinamatsuri' and"Vinland Saga"

As a general audience or a newbie or a person who is a fan of every story, We try to ask other people for advice and read numerous amount of reviews but these are the things you need to keep in mind before dropping or watching an anime (i mean more for the former ):

Almost all anime that are above 8 are good and do not need advice( mostly), but you must watch it with the intention that they are good but not "best". Cos it was rated 8 by a large amount of audience and they liked it.
For some people like me, anime rated below 8 might be less because it is the average of a large audience but "Keep in mind that there isn't anyone in the earth that exactly thinks like you or have same likes as you have". So keep that in mind and try them and judge for yourself if you liked it or not. (Try if you find the story interesting, or if you are bored or if you want to explore new topics as there a lot of cool anime which are better than 8 rated ones)
Some people rate low because they found the anime the worst adaptation of the manga, I would rather suggest you not to read their review or consider their rating in case you aren't a manga reader, Cos they expected what the manga gave them, but this isn't manga, "its an anime!!!", people who don't know the story are watching!!! and they might connect with it.
There are top rated anime like Gintama, Made in Abyss, Puella Madoka etc which are on top because of huge Fans or they got something unexpected which they never thought would be coming but If you watch them with the hype created from the reviews, Then I am sure that you definitely might not have a great experience. But if you just watch them just like another anime, I'm sure you might like or even be a fan.
Finally even if the story might be a crap or even if you hate the story till end...., there are some anime which you might love only because of certain scene or a dialogue which makes you connect to it, which helps you forget all the flaws in the anime, So go and watch it if you feel like watching it...Don't drop it even if the top reviewer or even if whole MAL is telling you not to watch because.... you are different :)
(P.S The above rules are not applicable to a critic ;) )

Reviews are the important things which make us decide whether to watch an anime or not. Some may help you understand the series better while some may mislead you to take the wrong decision. Here are few important tips you need to keep in mind before reading a review:

Firstly go and check no. of negative reviews, because every fan always tries to say good things of an anime and then try to suppress the drawbacks, while a negative review gives you a better reason to watch a show because you aren't bothered by the reasons stated by him.
Do not read reviews with spoilers or minor spoiler, because they are written in the context that you already watched the series.
After that, finally read the top review which has more helpful and a positive one to give a better reason to counter the negatives given by the negative reviewers.
Check for the following reviewer's reviews or ratings in case you find them:

1) Stark700: If you are a casual watcher who likes almost all kinds of anime, his reviews are the best to consider as he watches all anime and thinks like general
audience.
2) ZephSilver: If you want to enjoy the beauty of long reviews and Art, but don't consider his ratings as it doesn't coincide with the general audience.
3) phs_togusa: His reviews have the best arguments and mostly they are unbiased like a critic.

These are the simple things you need to keep in mind, but at the end of the day its all up to you, you can watch the series even if there is storm of negative thoughts or not if the top reviewer has recommended you, you have to watch the series and judge for yourself cos your brain would work differently.

Keeping all that aside, as a reviewer, here are the few tips for your review to be better:

Firstly read the rules: 'Click here' or write as if you are not giving your opinion but are telling how the watchers might feel which is the best way to skip the scrutiny of the Review Moderators.
Keep your reviews short, simple and cute, from my experience I've observed that people like short and precise reviews which gives an apt reason for them to watch or quit and the important things they would get in the show. (Ex. My review on Skilled teaser Takagi-san was totally surprising to make it to 2nd position)
As a newbie, try to put your first sentence or para to be most creative which is able to catch the eye of the people.
With more experience comes the desire to write a big elaborate review, this you can learn by reading various reviews but you should keep in mind that most people don't have the time to check your complete review, so make sure your best views are conveyed in first few paras and last paras.

I am the kind who would like almost all kinds of stories. But some create impact and some dont.
So i give rating on basis of those which gave me feel. And since i dont want to criticise the masterpiece stories like summer wars,5cm per second, ghost in the shell etc which i didnt like that much...i would rate them near 5 but all are above 5.
And I am kind of embarrassed to show favouritism to code geass to give it 10 even with flaws cos it is my favourite anime of all so i had to hold back for once... Rest all ratings are almost unbiased....and one piece is rated more because it depicts the problems faced my humanity like water scarcity or unavailability of Doctors etc which is very much essential to know. Alright I give up I give the rating based on what I felt 😜. Anyways thanks for reading all this nonsense :P

We give good ratings to the ones we liked avoiding its flaws and criticise the other even though it might be better than the ones we like.
I am the sort who might like the anime based on my mood at the time of watching it, cos if it helps to get the required amount of dopamine in my brain ( People get addicted because it helps in releasing the dopamine, basically we are legally taking drugs lol ) then it is successful and worthy of 8+ rating. Whatever in 6 are the ones which gave totally opposites emotions which I expected at the time of watching...That's why I say in my rating system that they can be watched at least once in a lifetime :P
P.S: I have a soft spot for good delinquents, like Mugen (from samurai champloo), Harima (from School Rumble) and Guts (from Berserk) and I also learnt not to mess with triangle love stories after watching White Album 2.

Yo not to be a jerk, but how do you watch 600 episodes a month. That’s about 20 episodes a day or 9ish hours a day.

how good it goes and the pain arc, which also has a lot of flaws for me

And the chimera ant bow I found very interesting, well explored and well developed and its social criticism you complain who is the true villain in the bow and in history the deconstruction of the gon I found it fantastic and meruem Deus and well built

I read both. And I'd suggest restarting it from the beginning, with whichever medium you want. I prefer the VN but it's very, very long so if you are short on time, the manga's the better option then
