No Higurashi Season 3 but another OVA

Against our hopes the next Higurashi series will be only an OVA called "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei"
The OVA is based on the fangame wich has the same name released back in december 2006.
The info comes from the June issue of Megami Magazine.

I hope it doesn't deal with the endless June concept again; it's become old. I would rather them adapt an arc from the manga.

Err...wow. That's a disappointment. I was looking forward to this 'season' ever since it was announced after Kai ended. But, at least we get an OVA. It's not that bad.

Yeah it is better then nothing, I would hate to see a new season that ened up to be horrible so in some ways it is good.

I think it was a good decision to make only ova instead of a whole new season, because the show doesn't have go on anymore. I was satisfied with the end

Few releases of OVA (3-5) should be appropriate for Higurashi Rei since it only has 1 'serious' arc that I've been waiting to be animated: Saikoroshi-hen.

I'm a bit disappointed they won't animate Higurashi Matsuri since many people believe Miotsukushi-hen is the true ending of the Higurashi world..

yes, I love the 2nd season more than the first but the ending was bleh =(
I mean (2nd season ending spoiler):
