umm, trigun is the only madhouse movie i can think of that was to be released.. x_x; uh oh...

I hardly think that it is Trigun, it's been in the works for years and is set to premier in just 2 months so canceling it now would be incredibly dumb.

....which is why there's a huge uproar about it... i guess...???

Madhouse is one of my top 3 studios so I really hope they aren't having financial difficulties. I really cant see how they could be since they were bringing in tons of money in 2006-2007 period (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Death Note, NANA all very successful). In all likelihood though, I think this is just a film project that had problems and not an indication of major problems at Madhouse.

speaking as a fellow animator, that is a bunch of crap for the company to break contract like that! those animators should sue for breach of contract.

Weren't Madhouse working on a new Hajime no Ippo movie? New Challenger's DVD sales weren't as good as anticipated, so I guess there is a chance it could be the new movie.

*sigh* Is this the beginning of the end for Madhouse? I hope not.

The industry is talking about the need to get casual watchers from outside the core into anime, but when one of the companies that was actually trying to do that seems to be suffering from financial problems, it doesn't send out a very positive message, does it?

i hope it isn't an hajime no ippo movie or black lagoon that got canned...

I sure hope Madhouse doesn't have a lot of financial difficulties. It would suck for it to go bankrupt, since its my favorite studio.

We don't know exactly how Madhouse is doing, but within the Japanese market, their shows have tanked. They do as badly as Gonzo when it comes to DVD/BD sales (last year, employees were in fact worried that their parent company would cut them loose).

Japanese market, I am disappoint. Best studio around.

uhm first thought was Trigun but then... only two months before the premier? i highly doubt they would go that far.

most animators are on contract to particular projects and don't have permanent staff positions with the company. It just means that the animators who were going to work on this movie have to find work elsewhere -- plus it sounds like this was a project that had barely gotten started anyway. The cancellation really screws up the animators' schedules but other than that there's no big harm; this might even mean increased quality for other upcoming shows as more animators become available.

Oh wow...I'm really curious now. ._.
The animators were fired too? Either they're going bankrupt...oh shit, or they screwed up big time. I can't imagine what they could have done.
