Manga 'T.P Bon' Gets Anime by Bones in 2024

Netflix Japan announced on Wednesday an anime adaptation of Fujio F. Fujiko's T.P Bon manga and revealed the main staff, cast, teaser visual (pictured), and an announcement video. The anime will be released in two parts and will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2024.

Akihisa Wakayama (Noblesse) and Atsumi Tanezaki (Spy x Family) are starring as Bon Namihara and Ream Stream, respectively.

Masahiro Andou (Zetsuen no Tempest, Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.) is directing the anime at Bones. Michiru Oshima (Little Witch Academia, Yagate Kimi ni Naru) is composing the music.

Fujiko serialized the sci-fi manga into three parts in Monthly Comic Tom. The first part was serialized from 1978 to 1979, the second part from 1980 to 1983, and the third part from 1984 to 1986.

Gallop produced a television anime special adaptation in 1989.

Synopsis
An ordinary high school student named Bon becomes part of a team of time-traveling agents tasked with saving people's lives during historical events that happen across different eras and locations around the globe. (Source: Netflix)

I wouldn't call those people hipsters, but yea I'm aware of them but thought they were... kind of a small group, if you were to try to consider how many people actually collect old media (not how loud they are but people who actually do) from that time period (the 70s) there are not that many of them, not enough to finance a whole anime.

@ZXEAN I can't speak for the entire abstract "West", but in Eastern Europe Doraemon is basically like an old Japanese meme like Pokemon and Hello Kitty.

Western people haven't seen Doraemon or what ? Kids in India grew up watching Doramon so I am quite surprised seeing other getting supprised by this announcement lol.

@SuperAdventure This anime is related to Doramon, I mean Time-Patrol was also a part of Doramon universe so you know who the target audience are.

Well this is a surprise... a 1970s manga getting a 2024 Netflix release. Not something you read about every day...
The whole design looks very nostalgia-bait, but who is it nostalgia for when this is unknown over here? No way am I signing up for Netflix ripoff again, just to see this.

Huh, interesting. But nice to see Fujio F's other non-Doraemon works get more love especially in this day and age. Not too familiar with this one, but seems like it only had an OVA series?
I guess only Bakeru-ken is one of the few serialized works by him that hasn't got any anime adaptations yet, but that's one too short-lived to be made into a proper one cour series I assume.

@Hoppy Because Netflix can offer a lot of money in combination with international broadcasting. And you don't have to struggle with TV schedules to show it. True, this is still selling the soul to the devil, but we will pretend that we did not think about it.

Why is this in Netflix jail? This could air on Japanese television just fine (It's a kids show). Second, the manga nor special never left Japan, so there isn't an established Western fanbase, also it may get overlooked by a lot of Westerners as it is a kids show without the adult fanbase like say Precure.
