'Urusei Yatsura' Unveils Pair of Supporting Cast

The official website of the new television anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura (Those Obnoxious Aliens) manga revealed on Thursday a pair of additional cast and a second teaser promotional video. The anime is scheduled to premiere on Fuji TV's noitaminA block in four cours in 2022.

Shinobu Miyake: Maaya Uchida (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai)

Shutarou Mendo: Mamoru Miyano (Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited)

Hideya Takahashi (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 5: Ougon no Kaze) and Yasuhiro Kimura (2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu) are helming the new anime at David Production. Yuuko Kakihara (Chihayafuru 2) is handling the series composition and Naoyuki Asano (Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!) is designing the characters.

Takahashi serialized the sci-fi romantic comedy manga in Weekly Shounen Sunday from 1978 to 1987 and compiled into 35 volumes. Shogakukan later reprinted the series in 15 wide-ban volumes in 1989–1990, 18 bunkoban volumes in 1998–1999, and 35 shinsoban volumes in 2006–2008.

Studio Pierrot and Studio Deen co-produced a television anime that aired in 195 episodes from October 1981 to March 1986. The manga also inspired four side story movies between 1983 and 1986, followed by two sequel movies in 1988 and 1991. An 11-episode original video anime ran from 1985 to 1991.

This is going to be 40 eps I believe so they'll probably adapt at least the introductions to everything and everyone, a fresh start remake

Naoyuki Asano is the character designer according to MAL. I don't like the new design of Shinobu either compared to the OG manga/anime but this guy worked on a lot of GOATed stuff so I have faith she'll look better in the actual series.

Steins;Gate isn't a comedic series but the main character Okabe Rintarou is a very funny guy. If Mamoru-san gets the appropriate direction he'll kill it as Mendo. Though I think I'm too attached to the original VA of Mendo, Akira Kamiya (who also voiced Mitaka from Maison Ikkoku) so it'll take time for me to get used to it.

We can only hope. But I'm currently watching the original and it holds up just well.

No, you don't. This is going to be a remake from start to end. But the original is worth watching on its own merit and I highly recommend it.

I just hope the shows art is in the good, I don't care about much else.
The trailer teases with it a bit, but trailers can always look great and then seeing the show itself and you got your hopes up for nothing, kinda like Shenmue and Shield Hero 2.

I don't care either way about it, I just want to see how it's gonna turn out in the end.
I watched the original series, so I'm peeked about results, not anticipation.

The VA cast just keeps on stacking, and I really can't wait to see it in action on Thursday nights, either Summer (too rush) or Fall (which is just nice).

Mamoru Miyano playing Shutaro has me very excited. Him playing off with Hiroshi Kamiya's Ataru is going to be fun.

Can't wait for more cast reveals, especially Rei, Ran, Sakura and Cherry.

This looks really promising. Their voices pretty close to the original. Now that the mains have been introduced, I wonder if they will also reveal the side characters too that would be so good.
