As a huge Gundam fan I say overall Gundam is doing great, but it is a franchise made up of many timelines, some great, some ok, and some bad.
Which gundam are the best depends on your taste, but I would just recommend to stay away from the build, reconguista, and age series, all of these are way too kid friendly
Thanks. I'll probably start with the original. I admit that I have a soft spot for campy old anime like the original Dragon Ball, so I'll probably enjoy it from its old-style charm alone.

It's funny that I have never gotten into Gundam simply because Sunrise milks it so much. A part of me figures that if they keep on continuing the same franchise with new iteration after new iteration so quickly, it has to be running out of steam. Well, at least they have Code Geass to fall back on now--particularly since they have a new writer who hopefully doesn't expect the audience to be stupid. And there's the chance my waifu could be resurrected to execute her murderer.
Can anyone tell me how Gundam is overall? Has it become a withered, stale husk yet or has it somehow managed to stay fresh and intelligent?

That's a hard to answer question. Gundam exists to sell the merch and as long as the merch sells there will be anime(mostly those cash grab originals). So upto you to decide whether it's good or not. You can start out from the recent hathaway movie if you want.

When was the last time Sunrise got distracted from Love Live and did another MSG TV show? In 2016?

Not a fan of the character designs, the anime looks basic.

Kind of interested in this one, hopefully this'll be good.

All seems pretty strong, bit more so than the last Gunpla instalment.
Good to see a female protagonist in Mecha Anime, that's rather a rarity outside the Mecha Musume subgenre.

I'm biased cuz Gundam overall is my #2 fave series, but yeah I'd say most are good. There's def a few bad or just "mid" ones, but if you're a fan of strong characters, themes of war, child soldiers, tragedy, a general sense of trying to understand one another, etc. you might like it. I'd rec Gundam 00 if you're looking for a self-contained, new fan friendly series.
Also Code Geass itself might as well be a Gundam AU considering how similar the series are to each other.
