A second anime season of Cygames' Uma Musume: Pretty Derby smartphone game was announced at the Paka Live TV Vol.1 program on Tuesday. The official website also revealed a teaser visual (pictured) and promo. The second season is scheduled to premiere in 2021.

The first season will begin rebroadcasting on October 5 at 12:00 a.m. on Tokyo MX and BS11. The Paka Live program's second volume will debut in December.

P.A. Works produced the 13-episode first anime season in Spring 2018. The fourth and final Blu-ray volume bundled three special episodes in December that year. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles as it aired in Japan.

A short anime series adapting Kumajet's 4-koma spin-off manga titled Umayon began airing on July 7 and ended with 12 episodes on Tuesday.

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby follows anthropomorphized racing horses as girls with exceptional running capacity, who aim to win at the "Twinkle Series" sports event. The media-mix project also inspired webcomics and music CDs. The smartphone game is scheduled for release this year.

Partially? Lol, if it weren't for the pandemic, by now we would have already received twice as many hits as this year has received now as a whole.

Not really, there weren't a lot of good shows slated for 2020 before the pandemic hit. 2019 wasn't great either. Maybe there would've been some announced in the middle of the year (if covid wasn't a thing); I do think some shows that were supposed to come out this year have been pushed back to 2021, so there's that. I follow ongoings very closely so I would've known right away if a show was scheduled for this year back in 2019.

Sequels Oregairu, ReZero, Mahouka, SAO, Danmachi, Higurashi and postponed shows like Neverlend's sequel, are they just nonsense to you?

nah 2020 was a bust. Not a lot of great shows, and yes, Covid was partly to blame.

If the second season, like the first, will be adapted by P.A. Works, then why not? I won't say that I'm a huge fan of the franchise, but how well these guys adapted the original material gives me high hopes for the second season too.

Hopefully the sequel will cover more girls than the rather intimate original anime.

I won't say that the original anime was a masterpiece, but already 2020 could be great for an anime, if not for the fucking COVID.

It was actually quite funny. The original video game teased with a lesbian kiss and the first manga was full of fanservice, but in the end PA's guys had to completely restart the franchise to make it more family-friendly for the owners of the rights.

Ahaha, real men know how to prioritize lol.

Oof, 2021 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for anime than 2017/2018 were. Can't wait. Really enjoyed the first season of this.

Could it be that they are building the hype to actually finally release the damn game? It's been 4,5 (four and a half) years since the first PV!

First, a sequel for Princess Connect Re:Dive and now this? That makes 2 unexpected sequel announcements for this year.

This show is one of my guilty pleasures though so I don't mind.

Exactly
I’m actually really happy for this one too. It was so enoyable

I love how this anime was adapting the mobile game, it got a second season and the mobile game still haven't launched lmao

Does anyone knows if it's P.A. Works that's adapting the second season or will it be Cygames Pictures or another company?:o

I absolutely hated season 1. Biggest disappointment from PA Works so far for me. Glad for those of you that liked it, though, but I'll be passing this one by.
