The Princess Principal Stage of Mission event held on Sunday has announced sequel movies for the original TV anime. The movie, in which the events will occur after final episode of the TV series, will be six parts in total and will premiere in Japanese theaters beginning next year.

Produced by studio Actas and Studio 3Hz, Princess Principal aired last summer for a total of 12 episodes. Additionally, the series launched a puzzle game for Android and iOS developed by showgate titled Princess Principal: Game of Mission last August. Spy-centered premise, the story revolves around five girls enrolled in the prestigious Queens May Fair School in London doing activities involving disguise, infiltration, car chase, and more. The Blu-ray disc for the event will be released on November 22, which will include the announcement preview for the sequel.

All hail the yurism. Let's get into the hype train.

OOOH Boy, I'm so hyped already. I was surprised by how many people disliked this show. Personaly, I found it super entertaining and a very refreshing thing!

On one hand I'm glad because the ending sucked and didnt wrap up the story at all.

On the other hand....ehhhh 6 movies? With no other details about them it kind of sounds like a cash grab. And by that I mean, with 6 movies announced, who knows how many of them are going to be recap movies (probably the standard 1-2), how many are going to be more side story oriented, and how many are going to actually properly follow-up on the ending of the anime.

It says that its going to be divided into 6 parts and be a "sequel", but I find it hard to believe that the entirety of it is going to be all sequel material. With that much air-time in theaters it seems more likely that they'll re-cap, or re-tell and reuse a lot of scenes from the show in the beginning for people who didnt watch the show and then move on to the new material.

Just like how the Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution trilogy first movie was supposed to be a "prequel" and ended being 95% recycled footage.

I really enjoy the anime, so... definitely PTW.

Money. Fans will pay to see it in theaters, and then buy it on home media later.

Make sense to make it more profitable but it'll take time to release.
3 years if they released 2 each year or worse 6 years if they released 1 a year.

You know what would happen already...
and if it going to be like digimon tri gap of time between each movie? one movie after few months?

I expected a sequel but not a whole six film sequel, holy shit.

On one hand I'm hype that we're getting more content and story. But on the other hand there's probably going to be long gaps in between each movie and it'll take forever for all of them to be out and subbed.

Still, I'm hype.

And for what? What prevents them from making a normal second season, and not to repeat for Strike the Blood? I'm glad that the series will continue, but I'm frustrated with this format.

More Princess Principal is great news, one of my favorite shows last year.

I would prefer another tv series with a consistent delivery date (not years apart as it seems to happen with these kinds of projects like GuP or Gundam Origin) but I'm just happy there's a market to make more.

I'll take a 6-part movie series over no sequel at all. Which is what happens to so many shows.

I'm liking more PriPri, but I hope they can end it conclusively (yes, I know, there's a mobile game to think about milking here). The TV show started out so promising only to end on such a... non-ending. If they can nail the movie series there's a good chance I'd want this for my collection, even if I may have to import it.

seriously though, why are studios doing this?

more and more sequels are movies instead of just another season.

Is this another one of those pseudo-movie series? Who're simply disguised OAV series with limited theater screening the same day as the disc or a daybefore.

Apr 29, 2018 9:48 PM by Rei_III

Not the biggest fan of PriPri but... a 6-movie sequel? I don't know if that would be a good idea. Or not. Who knows.

Let's GO! Can't wait for these!

Apr 29, 2018 9:25 PM by SeasideLua

A few people pointed it above me, i don't see these movies having 60-110 minutes runtime, probably around 45-50 minutes each like GuP.

@caio_ken If you did not pull the phrase out of context, you would have noticed that it was about a situation in the industry as a whole, not PriPri. Is this not obvious? PriPri just two years, how could we discuss this in the context of the emergence of many sequels to the old series like Cutie Honey or Shaman King?

Nothing prevents the studio. The format of all anime is decided by the committee of the anime which fund it, not the studio which in this case isn't even part of it. Also, for your other comment, the committee of each anime is different from each other so there's no relation between those announcements at all.

Lol, did I say anything about the studio or individuals?

Well, you did:

"Apparently, they have either too few successful new works, or a crisis of ideas. Because, I've never seen such a huge number of sequels \ original anime and a diversity of genres. In particular, this year there will be 2-3 "real" yuri and BL show, which has not happened for several years."

And I corrected it here since those are all different companies funding different animes so there's no relation between them.

The thing is, Actas was aquired by Bandai last year and Bandai is at the top of production comitee here.

Otherwise it was expected. Both studios are busy with other projects and knowing Actas tendency not to finish TV-series on time, it was a logical decigion form the comitee.

Oh, I know that. But while Actas is now a subsidiary of Bandai Visual, the control of it is from their parent company and the others involved in the committee, not from Studio Actas. And that's true for other committee as well since they decide if it's a movie, episode series, OVA or things like that, even the quantity of episodes and all
