This year's eighth issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, to ship on Monday, will reveal a preview on the magazine's ninth issue, which will confirm that Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter manga is to resume serialization on January 29. It has been previously mentioned on the magazine's first annual issue that the manga series will return. The resuming chapter will feature a colored page.

The battle shounen manga began its serialization in the magazine on March 3, 1998. The series has been subject to frequently-extended hiatuses stemming from irregular releases since 2006. The latest chapter was published on July 4, 2016, followed by yet another hiatus. Hunter x Hunter has compiled 34 volumes so far, with the latest shipped on June 26, 2017. The 35th volume of the manga is scheduled to ship in February. This year, Oricon has ranked the manga's 34th volume eighth in Manga Sales per Volume category in Japan's Yearly Manga and Light Novel Rankings accumulating 1,258,337 copies.

Hunter x Hunter has spawned multiple anime adaptations beginning with Studio Pierrot's standalone OVA that was released at Jump Super Anime Tour in 1998. Nippon Animation animated the first TV anime series that ran between October 16, 1999 to March 31, 2001 for 62 episodes. It was then followed by two eight episode OVAs in 2002 and 2003, and lastly for 14 episodes in 2004. The anime has been rebooted in 2011 by studio Madhouse, this time following the original story more closely. The anime had 148 episodes and was broadcast from October 2011 to September 2014. Two anime movies were also screened in 2013, an original film and a film adaptation from the manga's spin-off story

Viz Media has licensed the anime and manga in English for North American distribution. They have recently released the third blu-ray and DVD set of the 2011 anime adaptation in October while the manga's 33rd volume was released in March last year.

This arc has major potential; I just really hope that it sticks around for more than ten chapters.

You can smile again.

I hope the GOAT mangaka will stay healthy and feeling good. Can't wait until everything comes to a head on the ship, and chapter 371 definitely had a promising last few pages in that regard.

The important thing is that he remains healthy.

Why? why is that the most important thing? he is a mangaka. the most important thing is to draw mangas. why do you guys think there is any merit to him when he is not doing his job? It's like a football player who signs a contract and then doesn't play in any games, cause "he is also human". would that fly? NO! why is this okay? god knows.

Seriously if he doesn't draw mangas then he is just your average middle-aged otaku, do you care about well being of every random middle aged guy?

FFS there are young talented people out there who won't catch their break, who don't get a serialization because people like this guy take a spot (3 to be exact. remember this guy cannot draw 10 chapters a year but has 3 serializations!) in the magazine. I hope you guys know that.

Are you serious? The most important thing to a human is himself/herself then his family. That is basic human's rights.

So much hatred for petty reason. Plenty of other mangaka take long hiatus like Arakawa Hiromu with Silver Spoon.

Finally! I have been waiting for this :) After such a long hiatus as well. Wow! Hopefully, they get through the entirety of the dark continent with the new material. Also, this may be asking a bit much but I hope that the anime gets some extra episodes and follows suit. That would be the best outcome in my opinion!

Agreed with your objectively correct statement... :)

Most of my 7s and above rated anime is better than hxh.

The manga is below average, not even close to snk.

Not stopping anyone from liking, just dont think highly of it anymore, I once had the hxh anime in my favorite list.

Maybe its just me, Im also not liking highly rated berserk anymore, and I probably will drop the score from a 10 to a 6.

Yes, @keragamming. You're an opinion driven person and there's nothing wrong with it. But you need to analyse HxH more (not in terms of art but in terms of story and depth). Its not a masterpiece for nothing, and talking about the current arc, its still has maintained consistency in quality. Let me tell you guys a big secret. Listen, Togashi's real reason for taking hiatuses is not bad health but requirement of extra time period to maintain and come up with a quality story... OK, so you'll have to bear with it if you want a good story and don't put emphasis on art when it comes to a manga. -_-

So uhm, another Hiatus when?

he is married to the mangaka who wrote sailor moon, had a extremely popular and great selling series before hunterxhunter. Like i hate to break it to you but the man doesn't need our money so let's stop memeing about how he only makes enough for a volume so he can live off the paycheck. Besides his health issues are well documented.

Is it really that hard to look for the answers yourself before writing this stupid shit? Nobody owes you anything, you entitled prick

How is writing a reply on a forum threat being entitled ? Why do forums even exist anyway going by that logic ?

For mazloom1994
I can understand your feelings. For some cases.

You're critical, so critical that every little thing you debate it.
I agree with your way of thinking, that drawing is the demands of every mangaka. They must, because they are paid, and turn to provide service to the reader. That's a reasonable thought. Because basically mangaka is a job, they must be professional.

Why I said "He remains healthy", of course it matters, I'm not a reader who randomly cares about random middle aged guy just because I admire his work (I'm not the kind of fan/reader who went "kya kyaa", overrated this and that). Precisely because I enjoy what he gives, the health of their bodies are also important. But still he is also a human being who can sick at any time.

And most importantly, I don't really know whether he has an assistant or not, is 'really' sick or not and all the rest of the bitch. I don't know where do you get the information and how, but I don't like you as if you are right and others are wrong by relying on translations. Japanese is not always easy, it's difficult for some parts. Not always use Hiragana, but there is also Kanji. And that's why Furigana makes it easy for you to read. If you are the only one who understands the most, why don't you try to tell in a good way? Fix it.

Well, I also bought the comics physically, but I don't feel regret after buying them. I get my own satisfaction when reading it. If you don't like, stop caring, it's that simple. Don't bother yourself that makes you hate him more, if there is a problem that is not transparently exposed to the public, it can't be helped.

And seeing Togashi getting the serialization in a different magazine, I don't think it's just him (there's Watase Yuu, Asada Nikki, etc). You should just ignore it like you put professionalism first, but put aside mangaka who was arrested for child pornography like Nobuhiro Watsuki (author of Samurai X). Besides, I'm not really care that much about mangaka's real personality and all the problems of his life. It's a different matter, I just enjoy read their manga.

Your overall statement is too corny and really hates Togashi. Just like you guys are upset about the long hiatuses, but you should not be exaggerating just for something like this.

Jan 22, 2018 1:00 AM by savisky

Well, first, I wish him health and hope that this time the run is more than just customary 10 chapters. But seriously, for the sake of his fans I wish he would lose some of his stubbornness and perfectionism and hire some assistants, it would reduce his workload visibly and speed it up. Otherwise I just don't see him finishing his manga in a satisfying way in this lifetime...

To be honest I have no idea if this is actually true and I have no intention to do my research because I don't care more than that. I made the assumption that he is severely sick and I based my premise on this assumption in order to say that. What is the truth? I have no idea and I don't see the point of debating about that.

Up until now, I was a little happy since I thought I was having a somewhat normal debate on the internet without it going to shit. Now you say you didn't know any of this. As in you came to this topic with no prior knowledge, saw my post, theorized that the mangaka is severely ill and just went from there?

Okay then, good for you. at least now you know dude is just a piece of shit.

In all honesty, I think all you guys defending this guy simply don't do your research at all, or don't know any Japanese and just read the cherry picked interviews that get translated.

You know that he is not sick... right? like you know that the back pain stuff was all due to his weight and now he is okay? Seriously all the hiatuses after 2014 have been this guy dicking around (except that big one, that was apparently his heart)

I don't know If you follow this guy, and I've said it tons of time on this exact topic. He went on hiatus to (AND THESE ARE FROM THE GUY HIMSELF) Play Im@s / Don't draw to force the higher-ups to fire my editor / Play tales of / Play DQ / Going abroad to a fighting game tournament.

He just gave up giving reasons altogether since a year or so earlier. He is not in a bad shape, certainly not worse than the average mangaka his age.

He, himself has said on numerous occasions that the problems with his back is fully solved and the lingering pain is from his lifestyle which his physician condones but he just doesn't give a shit.

you're so wrong with this. Just let me ask you this. Would you be as invested in any series as you're now, If the series could and eventually would go on a hiatus for months, for absolutely no reason?

No, you wouldn't. it's about the flow you enjoyed this week's of one piece partly because of the hype you have for the next chapter and the assurance that you get it every week at the same time.

These kinds of hiatus takes away (1)Flow of the story (2)The enjoyment of waiting for the next issue (3)Assurance (4)Any kind of "water-cooler-talk" about the series

So, in short, I and many others enjoy (and therefore INVEST) in a "Weekly Manga" partly because we enjoy the "weekly aspect" of it.

Remember I don't buy manga to collect. Funny thing is that I don't have a single manga/book/textbook in my house. I only buy them to "invest" in the author/mangaka.

It's called voting with your wallet, and just like you getting pissed off when the politician you voted for changes his policies after getting elected, I too can get pissed off when the mangaka I gave money to stops being a mangaka and turns into a useless hikikomori who sometimes draws some doodles.

What if it suddenly turned into complete shit on top of that, can you seriously say that this won't affect how much you enjoyed the manga? like the stuff after the death of L on Death Note, didn't those just ruin the whole experience for you?

No, you couldn't. it's about the flow. You enjoyed this week's of one piece partly because of the hype you have for the next chapter and the assurance that you get it every week at the same time, with the same quality (more or less).

EDIT: it would be better if he ended the manga. It's like watching someone you love on life support, changing into a husk of its former self. I honestly think it's time to pull the plug.
