The 41st issue of Weekly Shounen Jump has revealed on Monday that the long-running manga Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo (abbreviated as Kochikame) will resume with a special chapter after it ended its 40-year serialization one year ago. The chapter will be published in the 42nd issue of the magazine, which will be released on September 16.

Kochikame has been serialized since 1976 and released a total of 200 volumes. It received a TV anime adaptation that ran for 373 episodes, in addition to several specials and movies, and live-action TV and movie adaptations. The latest special, Ryoutsu Kankichi Saigo no Hi, aired on September 18, 2016.

By the way is this only 1 Chapter of Kochikame or will it be again weekly?
For now I think it's special chapter(s) because it uses "新作エピソード" (Shinsaku Episode) instead of 続編 (Zokuhen, which means sequel).

Edit (September 16, when the chapter is out): It hasn't officially been confirmed, but it will be irregular serialization (not just one chapter). The chapter released today only says "one-chapter-only return")

I do, ya jerk. ;(
Also, that's super reductive to claim nobody cares about a manga that ran for over 40 years.
Didn't mean to sound rude or anything. Yeah it ran for 40 years, but srsly, compared to the other Shounen Jump titles, this just doesn't compare, too old-school. That's my opinion at least.

the last "special edition " volume sold 600 K, doesn't count normal regular version.... that's already bigger than BnHA sales...

By the way is this only 1 Chapter of Kochikame or will it be again weekly?

I thought Kochikame was ended. Looks like people in Japan want more of it.

Well, okay. It's fine to have an opinion, but to say "who even cares?" makes it sound like you're speaking for everybody.
There's plenty of us out there who like old-school manga, just so you know, lol. ;P

I definitely think that this move makes more sense than keeping the series running from week-to-week, though. This almost feels like it might be the start of something like the Lupin III TV specials that they air every year for fans (except in manga form, of course). And maybe this fresh start and slower release schedule would even get some scanlation groups interested in translating his work. If that's the case, I'm totally on board, lol.

Oh, nice, I wonder if this might be that start of something they do annually from here on out, almost like the TV specials they've been doing.

This man never stops, lol. Wasn't Akimoto supposed to start four new manga series? I know that he started two already, but he still hasn't started his other two.

- I know Black Tiger started serialization in Grand Jump back in January, in this issue: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/grand-jump-201702-no-2-2017/4000-569632/
The second chapter appeared in May, in issue no.11: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/grand-jump-201711-no-11-2017/4000-594229/

- I haven't seen any of "Finder", personally, but the first chapter was serialized in February, in Weekly Young Jump 2017 No.10: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/weekly-young-jump-201710-no-10-2017/4000-579430/
The second chapter was serialized in the 28th issue in June: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/weekly-young-jump-201728-no-28-2017/4000-600748/

- He also brought back "Mr. Clice" (which was one of the four series announced), in the March 2017 issue of Jump SQ: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/jump-sq-201703-no-3-2017/4000-579545/
Looks like it also won't be published regularly, but the second of the new chapters was just published in the September issue: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/jump-sq-201709-no-9-2017/4000-612366/

- The first chapter of "Ii Yu Da Ne!" appeared in the April 2017 issue of Ultra Jump: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/ultra-jump-201704-no-4-2017/4000-587826/
and then the second chapter appeared in the August 2017 issue: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/ultra-jump-201708-no-8-2017/4000-608557/

So, yes, he's putting out four series, and he has started all four (with each one only at 2 chapters currently), but it seems that because he has to split his time between them all, none of them will be regularly serialized.
Personally, since he tends to stick to episodic stories instead of over-arching ones, I'm mostly fine with this, as it allows for some more variety.
Unfortunately, it also means that these series might not end up being very popular, since they seem to only be publishing once every few months, and it also means we won't get any tankobon releases for any of them for a while.
On the plus side, if any scanlators want to pick these series up, it'd be super easy to keep pace with the official releases (hint hint, lol).

At first I thought Hajime no Ippo has the highest chapter(1173 now) but now I see 1973 chapter!! That's totally crazy!(at least now I can hope HNI to reach 1500) Other magaka should be inspired by his lengthy work at this point.
