I've come to realize that Naruto is more popular in Western regions, despite the fact that ninjas are more of an Eastern region thing; and that One Piece is more popular in Eastern regions, despite the fact that pirates are more of a Western region thing (although Eastern regions have pirates as well, it's often times more associated with Western territories).
Yes, that is true. Kishi himself said that he was baffled by Naruto's popularity in the West considering how much Japanese mythology influences it.

Naruto best selling volume in France sold 133 thousand copies in 1 year. One Piece best volume in France sold 107 thousand copies in 1 year(2015 sales data isn't shown, but is known that in average new volumes of One Piece sold around 100k copies).
This is a difference of only 26 thousand copies. So the won't come close to the volumes sales are wrong!
You misunderstood me. Naruto has a much greater per volume average than One Piece. Naruto has 8 fewer volumes out in the market and currently leads by 5-6 million copies.
One piece in 2014 had 12 Million copies in France! And 60 Million overseas(outside Japan)!
Yep. No denying it. But once again with a greater number of volumes out in every market.
Naruto has 80 Million copies. Though the 80 Million number is doubtful since it came from a conference where a guy hyping the series threw the number, Official numbers only said 70 Million).
Now, come on! It wasn't just "some guy". It was the head of Viz Media. And it wasn't just some conference. He announced it at NYCC, where Kishi was making an appearance along with his WSJ editor. Even if the number is fabricated, it's still 10 million more than OP with lesser volumes out.
So One Piece is just 20 or 10 Million copies away from Naruto overseas. Naruto is not that big of a force as compared of OP right now. It was like that during its golden time of around 2005 to ~2010.
Naruto is over. The point is, it's sold more than One Piece overseas, by a healthy amount. And it's done so with less volumes in the market. One Piece will overtake, anyone should bank on that, but it will do so with around 90-100 volumes compared to Naruto's 72. Naruto will still have sold more on a volume basis. And it's not dead yet, Naruto should continue to have decent sales.
First time I've had an argument on MAL. The formatting was hard.

Even if OP beats Naruto in overall sales in France, it won't come close to the volume sales.

Naruto is bigger in France. Only in recent years that one piece started selling better than Naruto per year. But it won't surprass Naruto's overall sales even if the manga kept going for 20 years.
One Piece is bigger in Asia. Not in the west as a whole.
One Piece is only around 5 million copies away from Naruto in France, overall.
Last year One Piece sold 650k copies more than Naruto. Even not taking in consideration that Naruto series will end in France next Year(and so the gap in sales will increase), we have that in 8 years One Piece surpasses Naruto in Overall Sales.

Naruto has 17-18 million sales in France and is still selling well. It's One Piece in Japan and some other countries in Asia and Naruto pretty much everywhere else. I live in Asia and Naruto's much bigger than OP in my country. Even if OP beats Naruto in overall sales in France, it won't come close to the volume sales. Naruto's a bigger global force as compared to OP. Op slays in Japan though.
Before anyone comes at me, I'm a huge OP fan and enjoy the manga immensely.

What are you talking about? One Piece has sold over 10 million in France and Naruto 14 million, but Naruto is over and One Piece already surpassed its sales in 2013, so it will definitely surpass its overall sales in a few year id say around 3- 4 years

Wasn't AssClass always at the top 3 or 5? And now the final volume has "only" 40k sales? How come? :o
Assassination Classroom was released on July 4th. Same goes for why One Piece has lower sales.

You misunderstood me. Naruto has a much greater per volume average than One Piece. Naruto has 8 fewer volumes out in the market and currently leads by 5-6 million copies.
Yep, but One Piece is increasing its backlog sales right now, so the gap will decrease every year.
Note that "beat Naruto" doesn't mean just getting the same number of copies as Naruto. So when it beats it, it can or not, surpass the Naruto Overall volume sales.
The thing we know is for One Piece to surpass Naruto overall volume sales, it has to sell more than it.
Yep, but if the value was really official he would have been said and released in a better place. Normally this conferences, specially when celebrating the series end and the author being there, mainly throw number to hype the people.
Not to say it isn't true, but Dragon Ball got the 350 Million copies for years, and some people still believe in that, because of such a thing.
That Naruto was more popular than One Piece in the past is a fact. That it got a boom of popularity is also a fact. But are we only taking in consideration the past? And the present situation? And the overall history of the series?
Volume basis gap is decreasing! Is not like One Piece and Naruto volume sales basis is stagnant. Given that One Piece right now is doing better than Naruto, it means it is catching on. The entrance of new fans reading both series didn't ended.
Is important to specify what time we are talking. Are we talking of the year of the series peak? Are we talking of currently? Are we talking of recent years? Are we talking of years of the past? Are we talking of the entire series(not mattering if one has 72 volumes and already ended or if the other has 90-100 and is still going)?
Also the fact that One Piece is continuing is not a negative point, but a positive. And the fact that is doing great and even getting more fans so far into the series is another positive.
In the end different series have different selling and popularity stories, and when comparing is important to account for everything.
