Lol, is this a joke or something? I knew that Oda is one hell of influential and famous man in Japan but I doubt that his word alone could give a boost to a manga series.lmao

People need to follow GOda's word. Lmao joking, but seriously jelaous of Shigatsu? Okay. And I'm not saying this because he's one of the most succesful mangaka... ever, and makes a lot of money, but the story of Shigatsu is not that good.

have you not read why oda is jealous

Oda was just jealous of mangaka because he said that it is extremely hard to draw a manga about music and make it successful. He also said that he could feel music from Shigatsu's art or something.

hmm nope, I think it's because the Live Action being announced.

No its because of Oda, the live action film was announced months ago

If it's really because Oda, then that was amazing and I'm happy to hear that :)
But it's also possible that it was because of the Live Action, people interested in it but decided to buy it after New Years, because they got money after New Year.

Nice to see Bungou Stray Dogs doing good in the list.
Wait for the Anime airing in the Spring. It's will get a "BIG BOOST" on manga sales.

Jan 7, 2016 1:49 AM by NotThisShitAgain

Damn them Shigatsu sales. Amazing how Oda can give a series such a boost just by saying it's good. The man has so much influence over the manga world.

Really glad One Piece sells better in 2015 than 2014.

2014:
ONE PIECE 73 3,010,801 (258 days)
ONE PIECE 74 2,834,558 (166 days)
ONE PIECE 75 2,797,008 (123 days)

2015:
ONE PIECE 76 3,185,018 (331 days)
ONE PIECE 77 3,020,137 (234 days)
ONE PIECE 78 2,977,466 (143 days)
ONE PIECE 79 2,937,920 (*93 days)

76 & 77 > 73 ; 78 & 79 > 74 & 75

Now I hope 2016 sales better than 2015 with OP Film Gold coming out this year, I hope there's an increase in sales (albeit only slightly).

Good to see Nozaki-kun still hanging there, Kimi ni Todoke too. I don't even bother with the first place anymore when a OP volume is released.

Which weeks besides new year are you talking bout?

Golden Week
Obon Festival
If you look at sales archives, you'll notice that everything sells better than usual/expected those weeks.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this is the New Year's Week which is one of the three weeks in the year where EVERYTHING sells better than usual. So have that in mind before jumping to conclusions. With that being said:

After 4 weeks:
*6. *93,573 1,566,702 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.17
*4. 130,195 1,587,692 Shingeki no Kyojin Vol.18

SnK vol.18 is about as leggy as ever. Starting slowlier than the previous volume and ending up leapfrogging it seems to be the norm with these SNK volumes lately. That's good, since it means it's still recruiting new fans. Well, that's if...you forget about the limited editions :P

Also, I think 130k is just about the biggest sales any series has ever had in its fourth week.

Not all that surprising about One Piece. At least in my opinion and shared by many, Dressrosa was a very mediocre arc. Finally, it's done with and volume 79 had one of the best chapters post-timeskip and volume 80 has 2 chapters that will be considered iconic for the entire series as a whole and starts of a new arc. So it's no surprise volume 80 has been popular, and there might be another Marineford effect where the quality of content starts to really influence sales.

With regards to "popularity" One Piece is by far the most popular series, then you have SnK well below it, then you have a handful of series well below SnK who are able to sell in the 750k-1m per volume range. I mean it really all depends on how you want to define popular. One Piece stands on its own in first, SnK stands on its own in second, then you have a handful of series that barely scrape or get a little bit under the 1m mark. Then there's everything else.

I really wish at some point Oricon will factor in digital sales. I think adding in digital sales will change the landscape a bit, and I"m quite curious how OP and SnK do digitally.
