The cover of this year's 31st issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, to be released on July 4, has announced that the parody comedy manga Gintama will be getting a live-action movie slated for 2017. Yuuichi Fukuda will be directing and writing the script of the movie under Warner Bros. Entertainment, who also produced the animated Gintama films in 2010 and 2013. Actor Shun Oguri will play the role of the main character, Gintoki Sakata.

The Gintama series, which has announced that it will enter its final arc by this year, was created by Hideaki Sorachi and began serialization in December 2003. The series has received various anime adaptation, with the most recent TV series ending in March of this year. Gintama OVAs were announced to be bundled with the 65th and 66th manga volumes this year.

I remember when Shun was one of the guests in Kyubei's birthday and now he's going to play as Gintoki lol

Shinpachi is okay for me
Although Gintoki looked like a cool version of Gintoki in that poster - not the lazy fished eye Gintoki.
Kagura is so pretty but yeah it should be someone younger.

The looks are great (though Kagura should be a bit younger). Now, if only they used the anime voices!

Live action or Gintamas version of live action?

They already beat them to it!!!

I hope they remember that Shinpachi is just a pair of glasses! NOT THE HUMAN WEARING THEM!

Most of the text in the image talks about the staff members involving in the movie and that you're probably 666666 users who came to see the website. The note says "I will 'mince' you if you don't watch it."

Thanks! I hope that's humor the film will have.

I mean at least this won't be as cringy as the others announced recently (Tokyo Ghoul, Fullmetal)

Disagree completely. In my opinion, Gintama's sense of humour is for the mentally immature. It's only going to seem worse in a medium meant for all ages.

Bitch only watched 1 episode and think she know everything.

I'm a big fan of live-action adaptations of cartoons, but I have to admit that most of this genre do not get well adapted. Even in Japan, the best live-action adaptation I've seen so far was Space Battleship Yamato (2010) and Always Sunset on Third Street (2005).

Gintama will be okay, I think. It's pretty much a comedy, despite its adventurous tale (former samurai living in alien-ridden Tokyo. Just as long as we get jokes as good as the anime.
