Kono Subarashi with crazy boost. This kind of make me want to watch the anime, but I'll probably end up disappointed since japanese people have weird taste

If you knew how Kadokawa works and followed KonoSuba performance you would know S2 wasn't planned. KonoSuba was handled differently than usual split cours. OVA is planned for June and S2 will come out in Fall at earliest, more likely later. That's not a split cour. Split cour is when S2 is already being made before S1 finishes airing and there's just one cour of break between them.

Official confirmation hpulley linked ultimately proves that but it should have been obvious anyway.

"selling well after an anime" logically means that the anime boost is still strong, and that therefore doing a whole second season has very little interest for the publisher as long as the sales don't go down significantly.
Better wait more to have it more useful.
Anime is an advertisement; what's the point of an advertisement if it doesn't brings you enough new customers ?

Hmm, me is it clear that anime ads are, but how much costumers needs still Mahouka? - The fan-base of Mahouka is already very strong and enough, that the producers actually moving would for the next level (season 2)...>_>
With 110K wk1 light novel sales I agree Mahouka needs no more ads. But I was also arguing that KonoSuba doesn't need S2 either as S2 rarely increases the readership.

Both may have enough anime sales to warrant a second season just for some profit due to disc sales alone. For some reason it seems KonoSuba's production committee said yes to S2 while Mahouka's just said yes to a movie (so far, anyway). Go figure...

From symbv: It's in her own blog entry:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fnatsumeakatsuki.blog.fc2.com%2Fblog-entry-66.html&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNF2btZr5ADctND_x2LnwVy1L_9d8g

The audio commentary in V1 says "season 2 please!" and she apologized for it being out of date as they didn't know they were getting S2 when they made the commentary and V1. It was a recent enough decision that they couldn't correct it in time to print V1 without a delay.

They do..but not when those scenes are critical to continue the story forward...the fact they decided to cut them out...they will have real difficulty for anime viewers to make things they will show later much sense unless you read the LN Material. they would just think it came out of nowhere and make it full of plot holes.

there's currently an article on Yaraon saying that konosuba s2 was a hastily made decision from the producers (something something even the author wasnt notified of s2 till few days ago something something)

Yep..those are the sources i was talking about....as well as a few blog posts on Japanese forums about the author gotten a call from them to hastily finalize it for approval before production could officially begin (don't ask me which forum as i got this from a friend who speaks jap)

I still disagree. If you had read the novel and watched the last few episode, you'd know they weren't expecting another season since they changed certain scenes and cut some subplots that were relevant for the continuation of the series.

Also like @-ShadowClaw- says, there's still no release date for s2.

They always do that anyway in anime.

Yeah when a sequel isn't planned already.

No real reason for them to know anything before it's officially announced.

It's a similar case as many other titles. That's because it's far safer (and cost less)to do it that way than having a two cours season right away. When you see a series announcing its sequel right with the last episode, that "sequel" was already planned right from the start. It's less of a season 2 than the second half of the first season.

Not really. Even the VAs were shocked when they heard the announcement so it wasn't already planned.

It wasnt planned...you can tell just by the episode count at only 10 and the low budget animation as well as no actual release date at the end of the s2 announcement. Most split cours show have an episode count of around 12 to 13 episodes and already esyablished release date with a fixed time slot for it to air.

The Thing is that it has already been mentioned that the sheer amount of reception for the series has been way above for-cased projections that the producers decided to cash in on the heightened demand for it. The LN boost has skyrocket with huge amount selling every week ( you can tell from the above list).

Not to mention the overall reception from it from both its japanese and outside fanbase are large and the pre-order sales for it are high..actually the highest for a non-sequal/franchise title of the entire winter...so of coursethey took it in as a sign to make more anime.

Especially since DEEN itself has been struggling to sell any decent title these last few years..so it is not surprising..and no whatever you are going to say it wasn't planned as split cour..i know cause i already heard from reliable sources in japan that it was not.

Fantastic news non-the less and very glad the LN and Anime are selling well..i hope it keeps up.

And yet KonoSuba is getting season 2

I'm not sure I subscribe to the "selling well post-anime means it is less likely to get another season" theory - although it certainly doesn't mean that it will get one.

But it's worth pointing out that KonoSuba's sales as reported in this week's thread (and next week's for that matter) are not post-anime.
