Manga 'Coppelion' Ends Eight-Year Serialization

Tomonori Inoue's science fiction action manga Coppelion has ended its eight-year run in the March 2016 issue of Monthly Young Magazine. The issue containing the final chapter goes on sale on February 20. The final two compiled volumes, 25th and 26th, will be released together on April 6.

Coppelion is set in the year 2036 after Tokyo has experienced a nuclear disaster. It follows three girls who aid the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in rescuing survivors from areas contaminated by radioactivity. The girls' genetically-modified bodies allow them to move about the devastated city freely.

The manga began its serialization in Weekly Young Magazine but switched to a monthly release schedule in 2012. North American publisher Viz Media announced at Otakon 2014 that it was in talks to acquire the series for an English release, but there has been no update since.

Coppelion was first announced to receive an anime adaptation in 2010, but the project was put on hold after the 2011 tsunami that struck northeastern Japan caused the failure of a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Production continued in 2013, and the TV anime began airing for 13 episodes that October.

The anime was ok to me, maybe I should finally give the manga a chance someday.

I heard that the manga isn't much better than the anime, shame because I really liked the style of the anime, plus both the OP and ED songs are great. Might read it though if it's translated.

I think the anime adaptation was meh~. Now the real question here is, will we get a second season? was it even popular?

Kinda sad to see Coppelion go, but it had a good run with its 226 chapters, and all good things must come to an end eventually. Looking forward to the final chapter and I hope it'll be a lengthy one.

I still think it's a damn shame the anime failed commercially and never got a continuation. For one thing, reading the manga a lot of action scenes caught my eye and I couldn't help but think I'd love to see them animated (even knowing that was never going to happen). Ibara barely ever got a moment's rest. Hopefully she'll get rewarded for it in the end.

If it's the type that got better as it went on then I may give it a go but The anime killed the curiosity!

Coppelion wouldn't last 8 years if it didn't sell well. That's my point.
Thank you captain.

Eh I didn't think the anime was that bad. If no second season is planned, I'll probably end up reading the manga.

What's good about the manga that the anime "messed" up on?

I doubt the manga is all that much better but the anime had a couple of interesting ideas.

I thought it was an anime-original because of how trash it was.

The manga looks just as unappealing, so good riddance.

The anime was alright but i didn't like it that much.

I might check it out.

Might have to read this. Sounds like it could be somewhat interesting. (I haven't watched the anime.)
