Seeing the chart, somehow i want to see swagamoto vs chihaya in karuta.

How would the quality of a chapter change anything at all? Do you think that people who dislike a single chapter will not buy the volume of a series that they've been collecting for years because of that? Or that people who stopped buying OP volumes years ago would start again because they heard about a good chapter?
Alot of people buy it later on, so if something big happens or if there's a string of great chapters, they will buy it sooner rather than later, which makes it seem like more people bought it.
Any facts? Or just made up?

I agree with Keragamming, the content of a single chapter has little effect on the sales of a volume. Most of the people who buy a One Piece volume today have bought all the previous volumes. How would the quality of a chapter change anything at all? Do you think that people who dislike a single chapter will not buy the volume of a series that they've been collecting for years because of that? Or that people who stopped buying OP volumes years ago would start again because they heard about a good chapter? Obviously not, for if that was the case, we would have some volumes selling only 2 million copies while others would sell up to 4 million copies a year. All the volumes end up selling about the same amount (3~3.3 million) whatever the volume contained.
Yep only slight difference of abou 100 k if something amazing happens, because people buy it anyway but there still is a difference between volumes with something amazing happening and with volumes that are more calm even if it is a little.

I dont get this mind set that if there is a super great chapter in a volume then the sales will be greater. I don't know how many buyers follow one piece weekly, but I'm pretty sure its in the minorty, for eg. The average buyers that buys the monthly magazine for snk is like 80k a month. While the majority follows it by buying the tankabon version which is over 2 million.
So how the hell would the people that buys only the tankabon volume for one piece would know that luffy would turn into gear 4 in this volume? I can only understand if the buyers were all hype after reading the previous volume, that when the new volume came out they would go and buy it immediately. In most cases these stuff does little effect tbh.
I also find it funny how people casually talk about luffy gear 4 in this thread as if everyone is caught up to the manga or anime. I got spoiled about gear 4th along time ago, but you guys should be respectfully and spoiler tag those stuff.
Attack on Titan and its magazine situation is in no way related with One Piece. One Piece magazine has 2.6 Million buyers and is estimated that 10 Million read the magazine every week. Is normal for one magazine to pass by many hands, specially the most popular manga magazine. Also this magazines are placed all over coffee shops and other places where you can go and read, for free!.

"Comic magazine of overwhelming popularity and fun that our country is proud of.
Since ever continues to create super-popular works to elementary, middle, high and college school
Students, and even workers making about 10 million people that are reading
this Powerful media."
Note that Attack on Titan is a niche magazine. So niche that it even his called "Bessatsu" that means "Supplementary".
Still just 1 chapter doesn't have that much influence in the numbers. What is most important is the hype/word of mouth around the series at that moment.
Thanks, I got way more info than I was expecting. Oh, I forgot the magazine that snk is in is not that very popular. That's why I assume it would be the same for all series. Thank you for clearing that up.

@AdmiralKizaru98 not saying I don't believe you, but do you have any prove for that? Like a link that shows how many people buy the magazine by weekly?

Yes AoT is mostly follow es by tankobon readers, but not One Piece. Weekly shonen jump sells around 2.5 million weekly so 2.5 million people See the new chapter. One Piece volumes sell around 3.2 million by volume so most readers are reading it weekly. Also G 4 was also gea sei in the last chapter of the previous volume 78, so many people were hype for it.

ahh my bad, forgot to add spoiler tags...
as for "So how the hell would the people that buys only the tankabon volume for one piece would know that luffy would turn into gear 4 in this volume?", people talk with each other everyday, when some hype happens in the weekly format, I'm pretty much sure those tankobon only buyers would know either from their friends or someone who talking about it.
G4 was a big hype, and OP fanbase is large in Japan, there's no way those tankobon only buyers never heard about it before the volume release. They also could read it from friends who buys weekly magazine. Just because you didn't buy the weekly magazine, doesn't mean you remain unaware about the latest event that happened in weekly magazine.
And you could predict which chapter would included in the upcoming volume by counting from the latest volume. And If I'm not mistaken, the publisher give information to the buyers beforehand about which chapter would included in the volume, even OP wikia listed which chapter would included before volume release.

gear 4th was on volume 79 not 78. And volume 80 had 7 days in the first week instead of 4 or 3 of the other volumes, thats why it had so many sales in the first week, and it doesnt sell as much as the others in the following weeks.
hmm? nope, gear fourth was on vol.78, http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Volume_78
yeah, thats why I said vol.80 is quiet slow compared to vol.79 & 78. The hype on vol.80 wasn't as strong as vol.78 & vol.79. Not to mention vol.79 has a better volume cover (for me). :3
But there's still a possibility that vol.80 ended up above those previous 2 volumes.
Gear 4 was on 79. only the chapter where he sais it and the chapter Ends is on 78.

Yeah, looks like vol.80 is quiet slow compared to vol.79 & 78...
Well, vol.78 got "Gear 4th" and vol.79 got "Suicide". While vol.80 got plenty of great chapter like "Parent & Child", "Follower's Sakazukis", "Zou", and finally "Opening Declaration", I think those chapter wasn't as hyping as "Gear 4th" and "Suicide". But I dunno, maybe vol.80 will ended up above vol.78 and vol.79.

I wonder if can make it to next week's list...
It all depends on what will be the threshold next week. Each TG;re volume since the second one has sold approximately the same number of copies in its fifth week (26 - 27k) but none of them made a sixth (straight) week on the list.

Chihayafuru is probably the most popular Josei manga ever created; popularity doesn't always mean quality but it is a quality manga. We hardly ever see 5+ volumes for manga dedicated to the said demography, 10+ is even rarer, but to reach 30 volumes and still going so strong, it's an amazing feat.
That's not true.
Sazae-san
Nodame
Are a lot more popular.
