Good times.

Not sure what sales you're looking at but certainly not these if you think a series selling that much 'bombed'.

Compare it to their last good work, which was Shirobako iirc, there's a huge difference in terms of numbers. I should've mentioned that before.

*58,124 Amazon JP Limited Edition (Can no longer be preordered since mid-day Dec 6)
**4,762 Regular Edition

140,173 Total

The K-ON! Movie did 140,306 in its first week, while Madoka Movie 3 did 148,084 in its first week.

       BD(DVD) BD(DVD) BD(DVD)

Then we have the Box Office comparisons...

Key: Rank / Cumulative gross / Initial number of screens (Final number of screens) / Movie Name

Highest Box Office Gross: Late-night/midnight Anime Movies Top 20 (Current as of Dec 8, 2015)
The School Idol Movie』

And male to female ratios...
71:29 Madoka
63:37 K-ON!
57:43 Love Live!

So you'd expect the Love Live Movie to do better than Madoka 3 for its Movie BD 1st week sales, considering how much higher it grossed at the Box Office. However, when you think about it... Love Live has a lot more casual fans, who probably won't be buying the Movie BDs. Buying a CD, or buying merchandise is hell of a lot cheaper than buying the Movie BD after all. Just have to wait and see when the weekly results are out on Dec 22nd.

Finally...Gintama's sales actually improved (most likely thanks to the SA arc airing now).
In the last volume, in the second week it was out, the volume sold 295 DVD copies comparitively to 340 for the second week of this volume. The series has been on a non-stop decline, so it's good news that there was some (albeit minor) increases in sales :)

Actually sales did not improve. Let us compare Vol.4 and Vol.5...

Vol.4 sold 2669 BDs and 2574 DVDs in week 1 and then 295 DVDs in week 2.
Vol.5 sold 2553 BDs (-116) and 2517 DVDs (-57) in week 1, and then 340 DVDs (+45) in week 2.

A deficit of 128 copies. I suspect Vol.5's 2nd week sales were higher because it started out lower for week 1 compared to Vol.4.

     BD(DVD) BD(DVD)

You completely missed the point of comparing week 2 sales for each volume. Basically what i'm saying is that when looking at only week 2, you'll see that there was an increase in sales (i'm not talking about overall sales of the volumes). This is the first time that's happened in ages, because Gintama has been on a downward trend. Now you're probably wondering, why is this significant?

Well it's because the increase coincides with the first episode of the SA arc airing. Bandai Namco Pictures were promoting the hell out of this arc, so if there wasn't an increase in sales after the first episode, then the anime's future wouldn't look very bright. I expect an upward trend in sales now, which hopefully will allow the series to continue.

The lottery ticket is for a live event.

And it's not just that. In many cases, the BD / DVD comes with a unique CD.
yes, i know it's for the live event. i didn't mention it because it's irrelevant xD

and the BD/DVD do come with extra things like CDs, i know :P i collect the CDs..

Fab to see Cinderella Girls still selling well. Really should get around to watching UtaPri at some point. Impressive sales again for that series.

*3,980 *3,980 Q Transformers: Saranaru Ninki Mono e no Michi Limited Edition

There was a second season? I completely missed that. Can't find any raws so probably explains that. Is fairly cheap so might get it. Might. Doubtful.

I am pretty sure its not "teens and kids" who generate those bd sales. Add a good 20-30 years to the age you are thinking of :)

of course there are also many people 20-30 years old who generates bd sales...especially in a country which population is decreasing rather then increasing
