Thanks for the advice, I will do if I ever start living in one.

Nah, that's no bubble. I am sure the people who spend a sum equalling a Golf class car on an overly expensive DVD/BD set containing barely 3 episodes just for a small chance to get a concert ticket for a generic J-Pop band are the normal ones.

Oh well, evolution will do the rest.

Yes we get, you're so much superior to those people and your taste is truly amazing.

Think about that statement once again. Does it really apply to EVERY other series? ;)

I only bought Mushishi volume 1 because of the Mushi concert ticket. It was really sugoi. I almost touched a Mushi and made it sign an autograph for me. Honto ni sugoi.
The next volume has lottery tickets for Ginko pantsu included, I will buy it 50 times just to get a chance to sniff at them.

I do not buy Ping Pong anymore, though. Smile is not pure anymore, it's disgusting when ficitional characters have relationships I will never have thanks to being a NEET hikki.

Beautiful.

Well I'm not going to apologize for my aggression because that would be insincere and half assed. Because I meant those words, because I treated you like representative for the ''Japan has shit taste, and I have great taste XD'' crowd.

I only get pissed when someone proclaim something as better or worse, with an implied factual notion in it, or straight up saying ''objectively'' like yourself. The fact that we argue, discuss, review, etc anime or any other medium of storytelling is a proof of it's subjectivity, if objectivity was possible those things wouldn't exist. Critics exist, because they know how to use critical thinking and analysis, articulate their thoughts and opinions than the average joe, which can be helpful for those unsure and want an informative opinion about something. It does not however mean that their opinion magically become more truthful or more objective, their opinions are just not as empty or extremely biased like the average fanboy. Having said that, please understand that the wannabe critics users of this site, are not real critics, especially when their criticism is nothing more than buzzwords and empty assertions, but I digress. Discussing subjective matters is not pointless, there are merits in discussion, such as the enjoyment of the act itself, gaining a new perspective, getting more informed about the subject matter through it, etc.

People who say things like 'this just your opinion, I don' care to argue' don't like conflicts, and don't feel it's worth their time to engage in arguments, which has some truth in it, and some just don't know how to back up their opinions and at the same time want to defend their favorite series, so they resort to an easy way out (i.e lol thats just your opinion, gtfo)

Well that's great that you support, but even then, expecting other people who aren't interested in buying something very expensive is rather unreasonable. For all you know a good portion of people liked Mushi second season and thought it was good (I think it ranked high in Japanese surveys when it was airing) but didn't love it enough to buy it and re-watch it again, not to mention that it's a second season, those usually will have lower sales than the first one for obvious reasons. The BD sales are somewhat dependant on bonus things to give the consumer a good reason to buy them (even tickets, extra content, VA/Author audio commentary, limited gifts, etc) having a high re-watch value is also relevant.

Just so you know, when I say "fuck you Japan!" in response to poor sales of something I like, it's not about my taste vs japan's taste. It's more about me lamenting the fact that most people who buy anime are wooed by superficial things like tickets to some event or simply because it's an adaptation of a game/vn/ln they like, or because it's a work that slots into their comfort zone. And I'm not blaming them really, because that's what they like. I get that. It's that things being this way mean it's difficult for more experimental or innovative anime to get made. Fortunately stuff like Ping Pong and Mushishi are still somehow funded, and I'm thankful for that. I just see so much potential in the industry, if only more people would recognize the more abstract stuff.

Anyway, I can't argue with anything you say (or rather, I agree with everything you say). I was in an argument a while back with a guy on another forum, and he was pushing the idea of objectivity in all art forms and all aspects of said forms. Going so far as to back up objectivity in visuals/sound with scientific evidence and all that shit. Of course that's shaky at best, but many of his points about other aspects of objectivity in art were very convincing, and I was swayed a little. And now I don't know what to think anymore. I think your sentence - "Discussing subjective matters is not pointless, there are merits in discussion, such as the enjoyment of the act itself, gaining a new perspective, getting more informed about the subject matter through it, etc." - this sums up how I want to approach discussions/arguments about anime and I guess art in general. Objectivity is a dirty word.

I think Rederoin just doing what he should do, to give us all
information n statistic that we need. at least appreciate his efforts.
predictions can be above or below estimates
n different taste depending on each

like many user said
give contribution by buying anime that we like or sit like boss and drop it if don't

A expert on what? What part of my post was wrong? I'm not part of the group that pretends to know how much a non-sequel will sell before it even goes up on Amazon. Since when does pointing out that pre-season estimates mean nothing mean that I'm pretending to be a expert?

You just sound angry because I disagreed with you on something before.

LOL wow you are nasty. I don't see why you feel the need to add in stupid comments like 'your tears are delicious' and 'you stupid western basement dwellers'. that directly goes against what you are trying to achieve (i assume) by explaining objectivity to me. but anyway.
for the record yes, my above comments were throwaways and purposefully ridiculous - a suitable response to your apparent glee at mushishi's low sales.

i appreciate you making simple the definition of objectivity though (not sarcastic - it's a very clear outline of what the word means).
look, you clearly get pissed when someone tries to proclaim that something is better than something else. and i get pissed when people think that their own opinion and 'taste' are all that matters. Why do people review anime, why do critics exist, why do people bother arguing about the quality of a show if it's pointless because "oh wait, it's just your opinion so that's all good then no worries i'll leave you alone to gush over what you like and i'll be over here gushing over what i like, and no one will interfere because this is our opinions and this is our taste and therefore no one can tell me what i like is bad because objectively it's not bad or not good. objectively it is nothing because according to the laws of objectivity it is what is and what it is is what it is." objectivity.

i just don't fucking understand this. we argue the quality of anime every single day on this website, yet that is all pointless? why do we do it then? how do we judge what we watch? what does the word 'analyze' mean, then? look yes, i understand objectivity. i read that entire fucking definition above and all it did was confirm that i know what the stupid word means. but is the entire point of arguing the quality of a work to merely convince someone else that your opinion is the better one? that 'hey, my subjectivity > your subjectivity. therefore you are wrong." i see it as trying to enlighten them to the quality of a work. but then that quality is subjective....so what is the fucking point. there is no satisfaction in making known the quality of something if it not a universal truth.

look, i would appreciate if you could take my response seriously (now that i am being serious despite you calling me a douchenozle, among other things). i am just very clearly confused. you seem switched on enough to provide a response that might be beneficial.

for the record i do support the anime i think deserve it, as best i can. i have been trying to buy every anime i love, and as soon as mushishi s2 is available to me - the western basement dweller - i will purchase it.

Well I'm not going to apologize for my aggression because that would be insincere and half assed. Because I meant those words, because I treated you like representative for the ''Japan has shit taste, and I have great taste XD'' crowd.

Can anyone tell me why Love Live! sold so well? It looks kind of shitty......

Clearly because it contains the right balance of sakuga, animation, characters, character interactions, story, music, etc, in the buying fanbase's opinion. It has high rewatch value, as why would you bother buying it if anime costs so much in Japan? It appeals to a wide audience such as teenage girls, adult males, and adult females. It also utilises its broad franchise, which consists of CD singles, CD albums, merchandise, mobage, magazines, books, manga, concerts, etc, in the form of great bonuses.

IInb4 the default biased answer, "Since Japan has shit taste".

I think the right word is a unique
japanese taste not only in the anime, but in everything
and we all loved it
