Not to mention the awful second season which had repelled lots of people away, leaving only fiercely loyal fujoshi and some patient manga readers like myself.

Which frankly is sad considering Book of Circus is arguably the best and the most revered arc in Kuroshitsuji series.

Damn I'm surprised the estimates for new Black Butler are so low.... I wonder why? Is it because it's the first new anime in 4 years? Or is its popularity going down?

Yeah, they probably waited too long. Same with Sengoku Basara. Anime is all about whats popular now and if you wait a while then interest in a series will die off.

with the GuP OVA on top(estimated at more than 55k).

Very outstanding news, totally deserves it. The OVA lived up to, and even surpassed my hopes. It is definitely one of the most fun animations I have ever seen. Add in the people who went to the move theaters to see it and you would be approaching the century mark.

With its 5.4k, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is having the best performance out of the new anime series.

Also good news, probably the funniest show in the past 3 cours. Of course it is early, but so far it just hits everything with impeccable timing and with characters that twist the usual stereotypes. In an otherwise weak original season, it has been a welcomed addition.

I will be curious where sailor moon ends up, its not my genre, but I saw the original and I could appreciate that. The first episode of the remake really made me wonder what the point of a reissue was. It was almost like they wanted to combine 1990 Dragon Ball art with the 1990 Sailor Moon story, which would have been horrible in 1990 but is even worse in 2014. For now I am just going to call it Sailor Moon Kai.

Wow! I'm shocked to hear Haikyuu!! did so well. Grateful, though. A second season would be welcome. :)

I think it helps that unlike Free!, Haikyuu!! originates from a Shounen mag and therefore is an easier sell for both sexes. (Or at least doesn't repel super otaku bros with its (horror!) muscle jokes.)

Love Live must be the anime of the century if its selling that much. There must one hell of an event ticket for it to break 100k sales.

Not surprised about Captain Earth it started out good, but then it quickly became a wash/rinse/repeat type of series. I just hope that Aldnaoh.Zero will get amazing sales with the people thats backing it.

I'd rather see a show earn it's sales by being legitimately good in some respect rather than just having hyped up names behind it that if I'm being honest are kind of all phoning it in. For that reason I'm hoping that it does okay to give the mecha genre some life and exposure heading into the Fall season with G-Reco, but nothing ridiculous cause that's just going to encourage more homogenization of staff and less effort and everyone scrambling to just get more of those exact same people instead of focusing on making a show that is actually great and memorable.

And no Love Live is not the anime of the century, it's just insanely well managed as a product. I'd explain it again, but reading some past sales threads would do the job just the same.

Amazing sales for Haikyuu!! and that's all I care about~ I totally love the series, and would even call it my top favorite sports anime. I didn't think it'd beat KNB, but it did, lol. Haikyuu!! has kind of cuter boys anyway.

Happy to see Love Live! and Engaged to the Unidentified still doing good too. I wonder how much Love Live! will drop with the next volume coming out next week.

Also, Yowapeda still doing decent. I'm happy for the series.

Yes comfortably. Probably not on average though at the end, as it is expected to drop to around 12.5~15k in the 1st week from Vol.3 onwards, due to having no event ticket on those volumes.

Oh wow, that's a way bigger difference than I thought. So the first volumes come with event tickets? I guess that goes to explain part of the great sales. So they should probably average out at a close number of sales, due to HQ's strong first 2 volumes. It's weird to see two sports anime that are so different (and thus in part appeal to different target audiences) end up with a close (or at least both successful) average in sales. I guess it goes to show that there is a dedicated market for both kinds of sports anime, which is good.

Don't forget that Haikyuu!! 1st volume sales didn't ended yet! This is only the first week! I'm almost certain that at least second and third week they will appear in the oricon rankingl as well.
Kuroko no basket numbers are for all the weeks they appeared in the rankings and not just the first week.

Both kinds of sports anime? By that, I think you mean, how Kuroko no Basuke has more action while Haikyuu!! is more slow paced? I agree with that.

I wasn't just talking about difference of pace. In general there you can find two big "types" of sports anime/manga in the shounen demographic. Just think of the difference between Slam Dunk/Ace of Diamong against manga like Eyeshield 21/Prince of Tennis. The second type is more over-the-top, usually doesn't care about trying to portray the games realistically (sometimes the characters exhibit clearly superhuman capabilities), focuses on simple entertainment and excitement thus favoring a faster pace outside the matches. Kuroko fits perfectly in this category. The first type I mentioned tries to be more realistic (well, within the limits of the medium that is), thus having a more down-to-earth feel, a more grounded series so to speak that tends to take a slower pace. Haikyuu fits more in this category.

Obviously a lot of series fall somewhere in the middle, sharing elements from both "types" but generally speaking you can group them accordingly as being closer to one or the other. As to the example you mentioned I would say Yowamushi is closer to the over-the-top "type". I mean just look at a lot of the characters and it's easy to tell.

Me too, it's not even that bad.

I should probably watch Haikyuu now, and I'm a little surprised MCA sold as much as it is.
