Someone should explode at some point. Chuu22 is strong but its their second season, Hozuki might attract buyers from the niconico and fujoshi crowd, WCW manga fans are liking the JC adaptation, Svezda is attracting smokers and non-smokers alike lol. Who knows, really.
If you look at just one of HnR's discs it seems like the shows going to bomb but actually it'll probably sell 4-5k. And that's not counting Animate. Having so many discs can be misleading huh. Also, Hozuki already got a nice manga boost last week. Let's see if it continues.
Now I just hope that Noragami will pick up a bit as wel. ;_;

At this point it will take a Garupan-level eruption from some unexpected series to get a 20k seller.

I know its early, but does anybody else think the stalker estimations are rather low for this season?
Maybe, it's because of the rest of the fall series getting their volume 1 released? I think so at least.
Most of the autumn series came out over a month ago.
Still some left, right?
StB, KuroBas, Log Horizon and LB:R come out next week. After that there's just Monochrome. edit: and GBF
So according to my very uneducated guess, pre orders should come in after next week.
Note the uneducated part.

Winter 2009 had 3 shows with vol 1 above 10k, Spring 2009 had 6.
Winter 2010 had 1 show with vol 1 above 10k, Spring 2010 had 6.
Winter 2011 had 2 shows with vol 1 above 10k, Spring 2011 had 7.
Winter 2012 had 4 shows with vol 1 above 10k, Spring 2012 had 4.
Winter 2013 had 1 show with vol 1 above 10k, Spring 2013 had 6.
This season I'd expect 1, the Chuunibyou sequel, to top 10k. Seems pretty normal to me.
You can't just judge a season on its 10k sellers, the mid-tier is also important(even more important, i'd say).
And looking at the current estimates, its looking really bad. With only 2 shows around 5k. Sure, its inaccurate this early in the season, buts its not a good sign. And I don't think its normal(not 100% on this, I know far less about this than Jmal or symbv)
Autumn was also doing rather badly in its early season, but it was still doing better than Winter 2014.
From 4 November
13.6k Kuroko no Basket S2
12.5k IS S2(v2)
------10k line----
8.4k Little busters : Refrain
7.7k Kill la Kill
7.5k Strike the Bloo
6.5k Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio
5.5k Non Non Biyori
Purely going on V1 sales in 2013
Winter,
5k+ - 7
3k+ - 12
Spring,
5k+ - 12
3k+ - 15
Summer,
5k+ - 11
3k+ - 14

Winter season is never usually expected to have that much sales. I mean, what winter season shows would you expect to be a smash hit (10k or more) other than maybe the Chuunibyou sequel?
I'm talking about the current estimations, not what we expect them to sell.
Its lower than even Autumn. The highest 2 are Sonico and Chuu2, both estimated around 5k.
Its obviously to early to tell, but its not looking good at the moment.

With the announcement of Free's second season, we have three guaranteed shows that will sell above 20k (according to past records) for this year and that is
Hanamonogatari
Free
Fate/Stay remake
Some people will categorize Hanamonogatari as part of Summer 2013 so technically there are two shows guaranteed. No news about the Gundam Origins series yet.
If Free counts as "Guaranteed 20k sales", then you need to add Love Live 2 and Sword Art Online 2 as well.
Ehhh? Whose making these guarantees anyways? I'm not 100% sure FSN remake will sell 20k either. What if it sucks?

Those kinds of shows might get a good reception, but the people rating it high aren't the same ones who buy anime. Its still on pace to only sell about 1000 copies on Stalker.
Well according to ANN, it's doing well on Toonami ranking #1 in it's time slot so I guess it's not a total loss.
Its getting worse ratings than the show that used to air in its timeslot.
