According to Nikkei newspaper, GDH started a restructuring of their subsidiary anime production studio GONZO and will reduce the number of the contract creators from 130 to 30 in five years. They plan to get the anime sales into the black within five years.

GONZO will no longer sustain the anime production on its own with the 30-animator system.

GONZO's not my favorite, but that's still sad.

Take LastExile for example!

Awesome anime, wonderful animation and a very original science fiction plot masterfully executed, and with an end that calls for a sequel.

Characters are well done and memorable...

Art is very very beautiful...

GONZO must Go On!

Gonzo made quite possibly the best anime ever (Gankutsuou), and they had to rework the novel it was based on a lot in order to fit it into 24 episodes, meaning they had to put an awful lot of effort into it. It'll be a real shame if they die. A lot of their animations have poor animation, but Gankutsuou looks truly stunning -- it showed what Gonzo can/could do with a large budget.

Hey Hey Hey...

Really no one said it is going bankrupt! That would be a tragedy yes, because GONZO released some of the best animes out there, but the news is restructuring.

While it is sad they are in problems, they are still up and running, though they will need to resize and restructure.

It is still sad...

But we GONZO fans can be hopeful!

True, that's good news for all, what, 7 of you?

?

Sorry, I did no understand the statement

recently they managed to produce a perfect shit with 130 stuff members. hard to imagine what kind of epic trash they will create with only 30 of them.

They've made some good anime over the years, hopefully they're keeping teh 30 good artists and dumping the ones that have been coming up with the dumb shows.

LastExile is a true classic..and its Gonzo, like Blue 6...Vandread...and others.

That Studio made history already in the anime industry and has many fans (like myself) , and it is extremely sad if they went under...

I can only hope they will reestructure and then come back, strong and releasing again quality anime as they are used to.

Damn, and I am still waiting a sequel to LastExile, something hinted at the end of that series!

Noooooooooooooooooooo! I hope they don't cut back on the amount of stuff they're scheduled to produce....Frickin love Gonzo.

You're one of the few anime fans that can actually say that. I don't care much for Gonzo but if I hear this happening to KyoAni, Madhouse or Bones then I'd start to get worried about the future of the anime industry. ^_^

Really? But they've made some good stuff! Hellsing, Gantz, Gankutsuo, Basilisk, Samurai7, Afro Samurai, Origin... Then again, looking at their ratio of good stuff to crap, I can see where others are coming from, and I'm extremely partial to action anyway.

NOT GOOD.

even if the company doesn't make anime you like, it's always sad to be reminded of the fact that the anime industry is shrinking.

Wow, it really is getting worse. Gonzo's pretty much my fave, so this is nothing but bad news.. Hope it'll get better within a few years. Gonzo fighting!

Ah, gotta love the smell of a failing world economy affecting absolutely everything in the morning.

Unemployment ftw.

Everything is hard for everyone, anime could not escape it.
