According to REUTERS News, GDH, the mother company of GONZO, will gain 1.9 billion yen ($17.5 million) by the allocation of new shares to a third party Iwakaze Capital. As a result, the GDH president Ishikawa Shin-ichiro will resign taking the responsibility of the failed management and Karasawa Tetsuo will take over the position as COO from October 1st. Iwakaze will hold 82% of the stocks of GDH.

The amount of debt of GDH is in excess of their total asset. So it has been in one-year grace period before the removal from the list of MOTHERS stock market. This increase of capital saves GDH from being in a financial crisis, but the new managers sent from Iwakaze Capital will greatly affect the policy on GDH anime business.

Ishikawa Shin-ichiro will reportedly remain as an inside director of GDH. It's not announced whether he will stay in the CEO position.

If you haven't followed the story of the financial crisis of GDH, read the discussion board below for more information.
GONZO in Crisis: GDH is about to be ousted from stock market

Anyway, what a relief. We'll be able to watch the new anime Shagri-La.

@metakim
A white knight is a friendly company which saves an Inc. in the financial crisis like hostile takeover. In this case, GDH could not avoid being delisted from the stock market on its own and the deadline is the next March. Without Iwakaze's help, GDH would have bankrupted.

Haha, Suzaku was the first thing that came to my mind too.

Either way, good news for GONZO. Hopefully they'll come out with some great anime in the future.

Hmm, Druaga wasn't bad imo, and Blassreiter has become a really good show.

Just hope they make some good shows. They can do it, its just that they haven't been doing it XD

According to the press release, GDH will use up 67% of the newly gained capital for the production of new anime until March 2010. I'm curious how many masterpieces will be made with THAT huge amount of budget.

More info from the press release.
GDH Press Release said:

To minimize the financial risk, we will
1. strictly manage of the cost and schedule of anime production.
2. reduce the investment rates of GDH to the GONZO anime titles
3. carefully select anime series to produce
4. invest more resources to the online game business
5. expand the international sales opportunity in collaboration with Crunchyroll

"careful selection of anime titles" is what I wanted to hear the most. I think the mass-production of crappy anime is the biggest reason for the collapse of their management. Accept more sponsors also a good change in the policy. The idea of self-sponsoring itself was not that crazy, but it requires a solid reputation and constant production of masterpieces. GDH now knew their place.

For me, all their 'online' shows are basically fail. Druaga= Crapaga [e.g. World Destruction is lots better] , Blassreiter started of bad, was getting interesting and then it hit the bottom again. I dropped Pedo Witches or Strike B*tches after first episode, after visiting threads for next episodes, I'm glad I did it.

Hopefully, they'll think twice now before producing another crappy show. They created few good anime in the past , e.g. aforemention Last Exile, Monto Christo, Basilisk. Maybe now they'll focus on quality rather than on quantity.

Considering the last GONZO produced show that I actually liked was NHK ni Youkoso! in 2006 (which they hurt more than helped at times) I can't seem to view this as good news at all. Although if they were to have Maeda Mahiro direct another show similar to Gankutsuou I would be all for it.

Oh thank God. I was starting to break a sweat. Hope they get back to their roots. Couple of my favorites were done by them. They need to hire more skilled and creative directors. And for all those chanting Mahiro Maeda, he's not exactly fool proof himself: Final Fantasy Unlimited.

Looks like they are taking a step in the right direction. The staff behind Shangri-La has me salivating for more. Can't wait. And I'm curiously optimistic of Kurogane no Linebarrels.

Glad to see that they are not sunk. Have not really seen any of the stuff that is being cited as crappy but then again I tend to not be able to get my anime until it has been out for a bit. One problem of not having any good supplier or at least knowing of any near where I am.

Dear Gonzo,

This is what you get when you fuck a stranger in the ass continually pump out series that happen to be pretty but have a plot and characters straight from the Random Cliche Tombola, rather than actually writing a good plot and characters first.

Nice figures, thanks dtshyk. I always thought that Last Exile was easily their best thing, and I see the figures actually sort of support that. Why isn't Yukikaze even on that list? That's great too.

Yukikaze was an OVA series, so omitted from the ranking for the fair comparison. Anyway here are the numbers. (You can find the DVD sales data from here.)

10,454 14,505 Yukikaze
