In the preview video of the live action movie "Dragon Ball Evolution", Toriyama Akira gave a comment to the movie.

Toriyama Akira said:

As a creator of the original manga, I'm puzzled by the script and the characters, but the director, the actors and the other staff are all excellent. It'll be a correct choice for me and the Dragon Ball fans to watch the movie as a "New Dragon Ball" belonging to a totally different sphere from the original. Perhaps, the movie will turn out to be a great masterpiece thanks to the efforts of the staff. I'm looking forward to seeing it!!

I normally would agree with Fai up there BUT i saw the trailers they released and they looked bad. The fight scene on the wire looked bad. Goku not having confidence in himself sounded bad. If trailers take most of the good scenes of the movie to make people go see it then Fox did a horrible on making the trailers.

You know, maybe it's the trailers that suck. Who Knows? But I judge my movie money from trailers and bad trailers equal no spent money to see movie.

And i havent seen DB in a long time so i may be wrong but wasn't krillin alive the first time goku and piccolo fought in the worlds martial arts tournament?

All the FOX trailers this year sucked. Must be economic crisis or something. They even made X-Men:Wolverine look like some Uwe Boll movie.

AS for trailer - well I loved a lot of little bits there:
- A realistic portrayal of Capsules.
- Fucking flying Hummer ownage(with Roshi almost fallin gout through window during one of turns).
- The Piccolo/Goku fight excerpt where they clash at each other and crash into rocks from the force.
- The way Chatwin completely imitated the "Intense Goku" facial expressions during kamehameha charge
- Gohan's house completely stomped.
- The little glimpse of Ohzaru.
- Shenron.
- Anime-like color settings.

And yes Krilin was alive during that time(Goku revived everyone who was killed by King Piccolo with Dragonballs), but he did not do anything significant. We got one fight in tournament and during the remaining episodes of DB he was at the sidelines. His character regained significance only during Namek stuff, so he can still be introduced latter on. People should agree that bringing in a character for him to just be killed few minutes in the movie would be unwise.

I have to agree that I was not too excited about the very first trailer or the second(which was better than the first, but still lacking). However that third trailer with lots of new scenes and Ayumi Fracking Hamasaki's song in background completely bought me.

P.S. For those who are wondering about high school and other things - thats where "Evolution" bit comes in- during the course of the movie the "looks completely normal" world evolves into DBZ-like world with more intense colors, lots of CG and etc. Oh and btw - goku drops out of school ;]

lol, doesn't sound promising if the creator calls it puzzling. being a polite japanese, he's prolly refraining fr saying WTF?

If I were him I would be seriously tired of people constantly raping my series. I mean come on, the anime ended in like 1996, I don't know when the manga ended (probably around then, too). It's an old series. Why must so much new merchandise come out for it? And why can't they make that merchandise good?

Besides that, fans were clamoring for those adaptations because they were, for the most part, pretty faithful to their source.

Had the Xmen fans had such capabilities of hatred as "db fans", the director would have been killed the second they found out that THE Phoenix will be defeated by Wolverine or that Lady Deathstrike's storyline is reduced to second rate villain. Or how about the fact that Gambit now is part of Weapon X Project? Or that they just took various X-Men characters and put them into totally different storyline?

As for Spiderman - I will remain silent, since Sony managed to change entire backstories, up to the point where they changed Gwen Stacy from "she was my previous love now dead" to "I am in your city, stealing your boyfriend"

Fans were happy because the characters there were, because the basic setting was there, not because it was faithful or not. :)

DB is not.

Oh right, I forgot that you have already seen the movie.
Oh wait, you did not?

As far as I am concerned the changes are not bigger than in the adaptations mentioned before. Hey, at least DBE retains the main plot line of Piccolo/Piccolo Jr sagas, unlike the adaptations mentioned before.

People whined before TF came out. People whined before LOTR came out. But this? I am sorry but DB fans look like trekkies, infuriated over the fact that in new movie PEW PEW LAZORZ will be of different color than in CANON.

MotokoAramaki said:

No Krillin? WTF?

1. By the time of Piccolo Events, Krillin was happy, buried somewhere dead.
2. Time limits. Did people whine when Spiderman 1 had no Octopus or Spidergirl? No. What prevents them from casting Krillin for sequels? Nothing.
3. Good riddance, I'd say. He was not that significant in these parts of story anyway

well, i don't know what he's really thinking inside him
but i won't like it,cuz the characters are not the best choices >>

i`ll just watch this movie as if it has nothing to do with DBZ, might be a good regular movie

Did people rage when fox butchered X Men? Did People rage when fox butchered Spiderman? Some might have.

Sony did Spider-man. Besides that, fans were clamoring for those adaptations because they were, for the most part, pretty faithful to their source. DB is not. No Krillin? WTF?

He must have been shocked when he saw the trailer...
This is one of those cases where he'd wear a "i'm not with him" T-shirt, poiting to the movie, don't you think?
