Yesterday, it was announced that the 36th Doraemon movie, titled "Stand by Me Doraemon," will be the first full-length 3DCG movie for the series and will be released next summer. While the story will be original, it will be based on famous scenes from the manga including "Mirai no Kuni kara Harubaru to" (Coming a Long Way from Future Land), "Sayounara, Doraemon" (Goodbye, Doraemon), and "Nobita no Kekkon Zenya" (One Night Prior to Nobita's Wedding Day). Yamazaki Takashi and Yagi Ryuuichi are directing the film. They have stated that the choice of 3DCG will allow viewers to really feel Doraemon's secret tools and that the movie will be for all Doraemon fans, both young and old. This movie also celebrates 80th anniversary of birth of Fujiko F. Fujio, the creator of Doraemon, next year.

Lots of people seem to have seen Doraemon back in the days... I feel left out, lol.

Unless they grew up in Japan, they're bullshiting.

or a few other asain nations its was one of the first anime Leaglly imported to China[ Hong Kong and mainland too]
Precisely.
MajinSaga, I suggest you check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_non-Japanese_Doraemon_versions

Hongkong and Thailand got the anime even back in early 80s. And I think Hongkong has the honor of being the first location outside Japan to air Doraemon TV series, back in 1981 !!

And not just Asia, Italy got it in 1982 !!

Will watch it just because it's Doraemon. But like DateYutaka said, tradition is dying. Sometimes I wish a traditionally animated series like Urusei Yatsura or Maison Ikkoku was created..

What do you mean when saying that "tradition is dying"???

Cel animation is practically non-existent. Nowadays it's all computer.

this hurts the industry in the longer run cause it hurts smaller studios that are forceed too do neiche animes cuase of it

Same here.

oh god, I can't accept that.
It looks horrible imo. Doraemon is the only one that doesn't look really bad, if not, all the other characters just look... so... weird.

I like it. Looks pretty good, like one of those new Disney movies. Will watch.

Awwww, you two don't disagree for once. Cute :>
The power of CGI, it unites people.

I'm glad they decided to make a 3DCG Doraemon movie. The animation is very sharp, it's definitely an improvement from Pixar's early works. It looks like they really focus on character's mouths and emotions. The blushes and moe smiles are added. This sure is done in 3DCG, but it's Japan's 3DCG :)

One thing not translated and reported in the initial post is that next year it is the 80th anniversary of birth of Fujiko F Fujio, the creator of Doraemon, so this 3DCG carries additional significance in celebrating Fujiko's legacy.
