In an award ceremony on Friday, February 27, 2015, the Japan Academy Prize Association announced Stand By Me Doraemon as the winner of the Animation of the Year award.

The movie was nominated alongside Omoide no Marnie, Giovanni no Shima, Detective Conan Movie 18: The Sniper from Another Dimension, and Tezuka Osamu no Buddha: Owarinaki Tabi.

Eien no 0, based on a novel of the same name, which was also adapted as a manga series, won the award for Picture of the Year. It won a total of nine awards, the most of any nominee.

Composers Joe Hisaishi (Mononoke Hime) and Naoki Sato (Eureka Seven) were nominated for awards for music in non-anime titles, but neither won.

The second and third live-action movie adaptations of the manga Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan won the All Night Nippon prize for best movie, as voted by listeners of the radio program.

Wow, I need to start watching some of these movies soon, namely Buddha (finished the manga recently), Omoide no Marnie, and Giovanni. Grats to Stand By Me Doraemon though.

Stand By Me Doraemon was a big hit outside of Japan as well, so it's not really a surprise that it won. The franchise seems to be experiencing a resurgence in interest lately.

I really want to see Eien no 0 now.

Congrats for Doraemon for winning the award.
I expected for Omoide or Giovanni take the prize, since they got more critics acclaims.

Still haven't watch Stand By Me, but Doraemon as a series (and comic) was a fun ride of my childhood. Pretty sure the award falls on a right place, unlike...
HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Pretty well-deserved. Stand by me Doraemon has to be the best anime film i've seen in such a long time. Mostly because it shed a lot of light for Nobita's characterizations and makes him a sympathetic character, as opposed to his usual loser and pathetic depictions. And God that ending totally made me cry.

"In the past few months since we met, I've shared many memories with Nagato. Though I've also shared memories with Haruhi, Asahina-san and Koizumi, I found that I've experienced more events with Nagato in particular. In fact, every situation seems to involve her. I might as well mention this, she's probably the only person to cause the bell within me to shake the most vigorously..." ~ Kyon, TMOSH

Really good news. Doraemon has always been something unique, gathering appeal from people of all ages and striking a chord with all of them.It was the anime that began my foray into anime and later, manga.Very well deserved.
The brilliant 3D animation deserves special commendation because its been executed so well.

I just saw the trailer, I swear Doraemon has left Nobito once already? Is this movie a summary?
