It was announced at a 20th Anniversary Event in Tokyo today that the new Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon series will be streamed worldwide on Nico Nico Live this winter. The Japanese female idol group, Momoiro Clovers Z, will perform both the OP and ED theme songs of the anime. No news has yet been released about possible TV broadcasting.

The anime was initially announced at Japan Expo 2012 in Paris, France and was slated for a summer 2013 release; however, in April 2013, Osano Fumio tweeted that the anime had been postponed. At that time, he stated "the release will not be in 2014".

I agree with keeping things from the manga as fairly faithful as possible... within reason. Sailor Moon was my first conscious anime and manga (as in I realized there was such a label as "anime") but I acknowledge it is far from the best manga I've read. The pacing is horrible sometimes, and at one point EVERYONE'S personality starts melting until they all have the same damn personality with almost no difference.

Some of the things the anime did were pretty bad (Mamoru 6 instead of 3 years older, Rei a completely different character, etc) but some things vastly improved the story and characters, and for all the filler it had, actually had the time and opportunity to grow and have distinct personalities.

So as long as they pick up the best from both versions, and keep out the crap for either too, it should be an awesome anime.

And yes no kiddie friendly bullcrap, not even the old anime compares to the amounts of kiddy friendly crap Precure has. As much as I like some of the Precure series, the overly-childishness of them grates on my nerves. The old Sailor Moon anime could still be enjoyable for teens too, Precure not so much (old male fans not included) they should aim to that again.

I confess I really liked what they did with Starlights though (my favourite season after the first one), I felt the manga was so much of a taco fest, half a boy was better than none and there's already a crossdresser in the group lol and honestly Usagi and Mamoru's relationship was so meh at that point I welcomed the new chemistry Seiya and Usagi had. So... if they convince Takeuchi to go that route again I'll be more than happy with it lol

Everything you said. Especially in regards to Stars- Stars was by far my favorite season and I really didn't like the manga version of it. The only thing I liked more in in the manga of Stars was the Sailor Quartet- I was sad they didn't use them in the anime.

why is everyone talking about a remake?
"Finally, when commenting on the direction the new anime will take, Osano stated that it will not be a remake of the first series, suggesting that the new series will take a different direction than just adapting the manga in a straightforward manner, as was done with the previous series." (from crunchyroll)

anyway, no matter if it'll be a sequel, remake or whatever, my body is so ready!

According to the link you posted:
"Correction: This article has been corrected for two key errors made in the initial post."

"Finally, when commenting on the direction the new anime will take, Osano stated that it will not be a remake of the first series, suggesting that the new series will take a different direction than the previous series."

(I'm assuming this was one of the corrections mentioned.)

And like the majority of the people here have said, it's pretty well known that the original anime was not at all a "straightforward" adaptation anyway, lol. Seriously, they made man-hater Rei into doe-eyed competition with Usagi for Mamoru. Ugh. That always rankled.

I'm honestly hoping for a non-MotD, manga-centric adaptation. It's the best possible situation. There was so much filler in the original anime; and it was in the days when filler was like 10 minutes within actual material, rather than the "filler arcs" we see today in modern anime. So you had to endure the filler to see the good stuff.

It wasn't that bad, the anime (except for Stars and S) didn't move nearly as slowly as people remember.

Take for example R: it has 46 or so episodes and went through like 10 major villains.

Nah, he already had a shot at it (and was very good, but now we need a fresh perspective).

I didn't say it was bad- have said in previous posts here that the origional animated Series helped me out of some serious depression and dark times when I was a kid- to be blunt, I was near suicidal (I won't get into why) when I was 9- And Sailor Moon gave me something to focus on and hold onto- I love it up until after the arcs after they dealt with Hotaru (Hotaru's was the last one I liked<_< ) ..... After that it went down hill for me. But that's neither here nor there. I just wanted to point out that I didn't say it was bad.
I was just implying that people should read the manga and watch the original series before they clam that it followed the manga in a "Straightforward way" and pointing out how different from the manga it was.

I'll always be fond of the original series, because it helped me through those hard times. But after reading the manga- I can see the differenced and it makes some of Sailor moon look too silly to stand at times.
I think it would have been better if they'd followed the manga to begin with- I just don't get why they don't follow the manga when they usually end up going back and re-animating it all over again, Sailor moon isn't the first to do thus and won't likely be the last either.

how many of the actual ppl here actual watched the original sailor moon?were some of them even born when it was airing?
still i'm looking forward to this

Erm, the last season finished in 1997 (after Eva!) and it was still airing around 2000 in many countries.

Yeah- it was still airing here in the USA till at least 2003-- I think.
But what does it matter if they were born or not when it was airing? They can watch it if/whenever they feel like it- either on the net or from old vhs or dvds.... >_>;
I don't get why it matters if they were born then or not- it has nothing to do with their ability to enjoy (Or not enjoy) it as they want....

PLEASE let this anime stick to the manga

Sailor Moon was my first big obcession with anime. In fact, I don't know if I would be this much of an anime fan if it wasn't for Sailor Moon. I can't wait to get my hands on this new series!

sailor moon confuses me so much. Would i have to have read any other sailor moons to watch this series coming up or not?

If they stick to the manga this time I don't know. It depends on how well they adapt the manga and how well they explain things. I would say the original needs nothing to be read. I was watching the origional series when it was dubbed when I was about 9-11.... I started sometime around then.
I hadn't read the manga yet then and I adored it. I still love it.
If they make a series this time around that explains itself as it goes, than no, you shouldn't need to read the manga- but the manga is fantastic. It was just re-released in English and it's my first time reading it.
