The fillers were enjoyable, but the animation was horrible. My friend could've done better (he's an amateur, btw).

One Piece had an interesting concept at the beginning, namely an RPG-esque world and adventure, where the MC goes and collect new members and goes in an adventure with a goal in mind and a set opponent, namely Shanks. The first pack of chapters were interesting in how the characters were handled and how great the potential of the series is, Oda has some nice story-telling and he handles the mystery of the world pretty well, as well as the depth of his characters. The high points of the series were Water 7, Sabaody Archipelago, Whitebeard War, and the setting for the New World before the time-skip (which happened like 2 years ago). Too bad it started going downhill from there on.
I simply don't get how One Piece is so successful. Is it because of overrating and people buying it just as a trend, following they're fellows, or is that good? Frankly, I never managed to read One Piece, it isn't that great in my opinion.

Yeah i just started reading this and I think it could make for a decent anime but I have no idea how they would handle all info dumps and inner monologue considering that is where half of the MCs characterization comes from.
