I don't get why SAO is so popular, don't get me wrong it isn't a bad show by any means but it is THAT amazing. Guess my taste must just be wierd :P

^ Sorry I missed that. Should have spent more time reading the chart instead of reading only the bottom section.

I also managed to find it in the list of released titles in Amazon Stalker. It is buried in the huge amount of titles released on Oct 26. The final points reached is 2796 pts so it is not too far from the final number (though still quite a bit of overestimate).

It's in the list there, I just don't call it out by name in the bottom area.

-- (31) -- *2,263 *2,263 *1 Smile Precure♪ BD Box v1

Much better than Suite Precure, which only sold 1k of each box. Even DVD sales of Smile are a bit better than Suite's.

It's interesting to compare to Heartcatch, which sold way more on DVD than Smile or Suite, but didn't offer BD boxes. You can really see how the more otaku-type fans of Precure went straight for the BD boxes when they started offering those during Suite and esepcially Smile, which made DVD sales sink down again in comparison.

I went to check 2ch about the mysterious rise of Chuunibyou titles more than one day after its first broadcast (which reach all the major cities in Japan) --- a lot of discussion but no one really had a convincing answer. So it remains a mystery.

New additions: here
Full weekly list: here

Full list is up.

Glad we got the full list, because there was a lot of other stuff in there. I already mentioned the ones for recent releases in my earlier post, but Aratanaru Sekai is very interesting - second week was bigger than the first, which is virtually unheard of in the past 2-3 years or so. Its not as rare before that.

Strike Witches RE BD didn't rank unfortunately. Threshold was probably just a little too high.

Yeah but unfortunately, it's only because of an event ticket announcement. =/ Jumped 54 spots in one hour after that was revealed. I wish it could rank 50th or better just on its own merits, because this probably won't amount to much.

Well, this is almost the only way to get your top 3 shows to be the top 3 bestselling in the season, right? :-) So guess we should not complain much :-) Besides, as past experience show, it is still entirely possible event ticket does not move the ranking this much (look at Total Eclipse vol.2), so I guess such positive reaction of fans is still commendable, as we all know nowadays people often buy BDs for reason outside the inherent merits of the anime itself - the extras, the commentary, drama/music CD, event ticket all count. At the end what sells wins ;-)

Hidamari not likely to be in top 3 when all dust settles, but it is good to see it bask in the glory of the moment, even though it may be a short one.

Fingers still crossed that it's a storefront title I guess. I want at least 7k average.

^ The strange thing is that a "god-tier" episode usually shows its effect almost immediately. The BD ranking for Madoka and SAO rose rapidly up in Amazon once ep.3 and ep.10 was aired respectively. The rise took place over the whole night and it was impossible to miss. However this is not what we see in Chuunibyou, granted the "god-tier" effect of this ep.5 is not on the same level as Madoka ep.3 or SAO ep.10 but still....

What is interesting is that even though the major cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya all got Chuunibyou broadcast on Wed night. The sales rank of Chuunibyou did not move much on Thu. But tonight (Thu night) Animax, a cable station, aired the show and suddenly the whole series jumped up in ranks. I wonder why this should be so... Are there more potential Amazon buyers among Animax watchers than the network channel watchers? A bit puzzling...

Yeah I've noticed seen that delayed reaction in the rankings for a few weeks now. I remember after episode 2 aired, I saw it bump up from like 110 to 80, then to 60, but then quickly back to 80. I got concerned at that point that the show wasn't going to get any real momentum, and had no chance of hitting 10k if that's all it could muster from a post-airing bump.

Then a few hours later it was in the 40s, and it's just been generally kicking ass since then. It's only been outside the Top 100 for 3 of the past 527 hours, and been in the top 50 for 304 of those 527 hours. It's also doing an even better job keeping volumes 2+ in the top 100 than Hyouka did, and we've seen how stable Hyouka's sales have been, so that bodes well for Chuunibyou. Especially since it's 6 (well, now 7) discs instead of 11 like Hyouka.

I was going up and down on SAO in a wild love-hate rollercoaster, but the premise and foundation was really interesting and I was willing to waive away a lot of the things I didn't like because I saw so much potential. Episodes 11 and 13 especially made me think "Wow, I think this show has finally addressed my biggest criticisms. We're on the right path!". I put it on my October order and knew I had a few weeks to cancel before Amazon shipped it out.
Then episode 14 hurt that enthusiasm a lot, and episode 15 (or rather, a specific character) just murdered it.
Seems I am the direct opposite of you - instead of love-hate rollercoaster, once I have my expectation settled regarding the animation, direction and screenplay adaptation quality by ep.3 or so, I have been on a cruising level in terms of love/hate: generally entertaining and worth watching but definitely not something I'd call great or get excited about. And it may have to do with my habit of researching the original work before I start an anime adaptation -- it usually helps me set the mood and expectation, and knew what is on offer and what is not. In SAO's case I never expect to see thrilling fights but I want to see Kirito x Asuna so ep.9-13 are what I patiently waited to see. This approach did not disappoint me and I am happy to have taken the ride. So overall I count myself satisfied and I am enjoying the ALO now, one-dimensional character notwithstanding - it is just that it is not up to import level to me but it is entertaining to watch as it airs.

Some of them are hurt by DVDs not ranking this time. KoiChoco was guaranteed to drop a lot because Vol. 1 had both a event ticket app and was cheaper. NakaImo dropped because Vol. 1 had the naked poster or whatever. LagRin went up a handful of copies, for what it's worth. AGE is just AGE. Kokoroko was in the 2.5-3.0k range people guessed, though on the lower end of it. I thought it might be more like 2.8k at least. So no, not the most impressive bunch.
For anime that is based on VN/ero-game/harem LN the order in terms of sales for vol.1 was KoiChoco > NakaImo > Hagure > BokuH. However if the order of BD sales we currently know stays when we have DVD data, we'll have Hagure > NakaImo > KoiChoco > BokuH (I think BokuH will stay at bottom). My perception is that by the end of the series, NakaImo got the best feedback while BokuH got the worst. KoiChoco might have got better sales if another heroine got the MC but that's just a speculation.

I knew the DVDs were'n included, but it would still not reach 50% of Vol. 1 I think. I only looked up the Vol. 1 sales though, guess it's no surprise considering the sales of the other volumes.

Well, comparing like to like, Vol. 1 sold 3,087 BDs. Vol. 4 sold 1,856 BDs. 60% is better than half, but not by much.

---

Oh, also, Chuunibyou officially passed Jojo in stalker points for Fall, and will pass Little Busters as of the next update. Darkness still has a 1.5k point lead but that will evaporate within 2-3 weeks at the current pace.

Natsu-iro had a discounted Vol. 1 and dropped precipitously after that.

4,698 - Vol. 1 [3,087 BD + 1,611 DVD]
2,018 - Vol. 2 [BD only]
1,983 - Vol. 3 [BD only]
1,856 - Vol. 4 [BD only]

So... yeah. It's been consistent-ish from Vol. 2 but only after dropping a lot. All volumes ranked only one week so I don't think we'll see any more from Vol. 4.

But there is not a minimum number of titles you need to import I guess? If it is not up to par (as it's shown at the beginning in my opinion) you can just take it off the list... I guess something in SAO caused you to consider it to be import-worthy at least up to near end of 1st cour?

Right, I wouldn't import a show I don't like just to hit some number threshold. I've imported as few as 1 and as many as 7, usually ~6 in recent seasons.

Again, I don't want to get into spoilers, but I was going up and down on SAO in a wild love-hate rollercoaster, but the premise and foundation was really interesting and I was willing to waive away a lot of the things I didn't like because I saw so much potential. SAO is one of those shows that makes me desperately wish I could take certain characters, rescue them from the bad parts, and and plonk them down in something better. Because I'd prefer to just drop it at this point but I really don't think I can drop a show with
in it. Oh well.

Thanks for sharing the data. This is relatively quick it seems as 2ch do not always post these late week data....

Someone posted it two weeks ago but I couldn't catch that either. However, there was nothing added two weeks ago, so nothing lost. Nothing was added last week either it seems, so nobody bothered. This week it's really important though.

All are doing a bit less than what low expectation we already have it seems?
