Aniplex of America announced at last month's Sakura-Con that they will be re-releasing the Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners Movies on DVD. Aniplex of America first released the movies as a Blu-ray box in February 2011 for $398.98, however those quickly sold out. In addition, Aniplex of America announced this past weekend at Fanime Con that its re-release of the movie series will also be produced in-house.

Oh kewl, I hope they have english subs included. It's such an awesome coincidence since I've been watching these movies this week and have been wanting to show them to friends.

It'll definitely have english subs since it's a direct release from Aniplex USA (as opposed to an import). I mean even the original exclusive import had an english sub, so there's no doubt this one wouldn't have one. Also I agree, it's another way of finally being able to spread the word about this great series. :)

Awesome. I've always wanted to see these films. Blu ray would have been awesome, but I'll take what I can get.

I remember when these DVDs hit the market! It was insane and i believe they sold out within the day. But the price was crazy despite what you get in a bundle. I would love and have waited for cheaper dvds to come out of this fantastic series.

I really loved these movies and pretty as they are (BD quality must look pretty awesome), I'm really glad there will be a DVD release. I don't have a Blu-Ray player, nor a TV, nor a PS3, and I have no plans to remedy this anytime soon, so I need to stick with DVDs for my portable DVD player. BD-exclusives make me sadface.

Honestly I'm just happy we're finally getting a much more affordable copy of KnK (in-house being that it's gonna be produced by Aniplex USA, rather than being a direct import like before).

Yeah I know, BDs would've been better but given how recent they released the BD exclusive (early last year), you can't exactly expect them to rerelease it so soon and that's not even factoring how it was meant to be an exclusive.

WAS expensive. That $400 USD was the price of the Japanese import BD so people were paying Japanese prices, much like the current Fate/Zero release. This release will be a more normal R1 pricing as there is less worry about reverse importing now, although I suspect that the reason why we're not getting a BD release is because there is still some residual concern left. It's a pity that USA and Japan are on the same BD zone :(

Likely pass, I've heard great things about this show but if they want to be paranoid I'm not going to support them. Blu-ray is now, unless its an older title where a higher definition wouldn't make a difference I don't want to go back to DVD.

Personally, I'm fine with DVD, I'm just glad for the chance to get them! I adore the series.

I can't play them on my PS3 anyway but it's stupid to re-release them only on DVD, as it has been already said, they look amazing and they deserve more than DVD quality, so why not both options?

Cheaper? Good.
DVD? No thanks. Considering this show had such amazing art...

My sell point for this is $200 on blu-ray. Hopefully I'll be able to add it to my collection some day...

[obvious] That's very good of ANN to release such an unconventional production: needs to be a lot cheaper than the original $400 though. [/obvious]

Idk if that is obvious I just felt like I typed something banal *is paranoid about communicating through text*.

cheaper? i like that idea...

I believe in-house release means that it isn't an import with subs on it (like the original KnK BD set and the F/Z sets) but rather packaging created for the western release. Which means it should be quite a bit cheaper. I might be wrong though.

I have the BDs and i am definitely buying this too.
Love Kara no Kyoukai.

PS: What is an "in-house" release?

May 28, 2012 10:47 AM by Ryougi_Shiki_

Wonder how much it will cost if it is only DVD instead of BD...
