An in-house license.

Not that it matters. I don't live in the USA, and I have already watched Durarara in it's entirety.

You forgot the add it's also getting a dub. Which in terms of Aniplex releasing it themselves of a japanese company - USA distribution is very rare. And that there going to release the series in 3 sets consisting of 8-9 episodes each. While pricing is TBD.

That, and Aniplex is looking for more TV deals now, with a rumored TV airing of DRRRR!

< Can already imagine Patrick Seitz as the perfect Shizuo.

also im kinda sketchy about this. so far all the animes i see that become dubbed in the US tends to sorta ruin the original for me. but hey im willing to give it a shot just hoping it does become like FMA:Brotherhood i dread saturday nights on adult swim now x.x

Fwiw, it's also licensed in the EU (at least in the UK, not sure about the rest of europe, sorry) - it was announced at the MCM expo at end of May. UK release will be from Beez (the EU version of Namco Bandai).
It was planned to have the first part released by Oct (so ahead of the US) but sub only.
It looks like the announcement of the new US dub has thrown a spanner in their works though, and they're trying to work out what to do :p

Since Aniplex is a japanese company we don't know how they'll handle a title in the US market. Since were getting a dub it would entirely stupid to give it a dub, and put it out only online, and then the pricing comes from whether or not they'll set it right fairly. (Just look at the 30 buckeroo Gurren Lagann movies)

They must be pretty insane to say "We planned Part Vol 1 of 3 in October at £29.99 sub only" £29.99 for a volume is shocking. £89.97 for all volumes of Durarara is hilariously expensive.

But saying that, I really want to watch Durarara, only read the manga so far.

ohhh good for a second I was scared it'd be sub only. Looking forward to hearing the dub.

Don't understand why people complain about dubs when there's always a Japanese language option on the DVDs. No-one forces you to watch them, and they don't "ruin" anime any more than a bad karaoke singer "ruins" a song, because you'll still watch and enjoy the original version. :/

Well I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, can always just stick to subs if the dub is bad.

I thought FUNi would be all over this since DRRR!! was made by the same guy who did Baccano!

Heh, I know that I'm still going to buy the DVDs, regardless. I'm interested in seeing how the dub turns out. It might not even be that bad.

Thanks for listing 3 of the VA!!!

Do you know if they will mention the others?

I have heard Darrel Guilbeau from Higurashi and he was VERY GOOD! Way better than Keiichi!! It was a shame he was only like in 4 ep......but now I get to hear him in every ep!!

So I am VERY pleased with ALL of them. ^.^

I am still praying that JYB or someone HUGE is going to do Izaya!!! And Kida HAS to be Vic!!! Or Shinra.

I'm not going to go ahead and bag people for wanting to watch the dubs but really? The VA are perfect as they are, and JYB is a fucking fail of a voice actor. He pretty much ruins everything he touches. In fact, dubs ruin everything they touch.
That being said, we are all free to decide how we want to watch our anime, and so when I buy the dvd's ill be sure to leave it in Japanese :)

Watch it. Actually I will buy it but usually I watch sub versions even if they have dub. ... awful OHC dub =.= I wish the best for DRRR D:

No one said the original VAs were bad, but it would be nice to also have a good dub if people would prefer to watch the show that way.

The Baccano! dub was way better than the original VAs.

But then again, it actually fit. English VAs for a anime set in the US.

DRRR! on the other hand... eh. If it was Funimation dubbing it, I'd have hope. But since it's not...

Bang Zoom has a rep for considerably well done dubs. (Haruhi Suzumiya, Gundam 00, Gurren Lagann, etc.) While their reppresentative for them is an idiot,he's also an excellent casting director. Roles are auditioned for with Bang Zoom, which unlike Funi ensures that atleast someone is assuring that the dub member will fit their parts.

So far the dub cast sound very promising. Kari, and Crispin are amazing VA's, Darrel a bit of a new guy however.

Freeman is perfect for Shizuo. I wonder which voice Kari will be using for Celty: her Kagami voice or her Karin (Shadow Hearts 2) voice.

It's beyond me why some people are clamouring for JYB to be cast as Izaya. The role of Izaya requires a VA who will make him sound like the insinuating, manipulative son of a bitch he is, and last time I checked JYB failed to sound like such when he played Lelouch. The possibility of me watching the dub solely rests on Bang Zoom not screwing up when casting for that particular role.

As for the rest, Stephanie Sheh would be perfect for Erika, Michelle Ruff or Mela Lee as Anri, Michael McCohoonie (did I spell that right?) as Simon or Shinra's father and JYB or Vic as Shinra.

I always thought that JYB could play Mikado since he can do the pussy-acting little kid voice kinda like Renton, and still alter it to sound a little more serious-ish.

Yeah, I too was thinking before the VA list was released that JYB would be suitable for either Mikadoo or Shinra, but I'm always up to giving new talents a try.

I don't really watch dubs a lot but I think this might be a good one at the very least.

As far as much as my knowledge on predicting/foreseeing the english cast (again, I don't watch dubs), I could imagine Johnny Yong Bosch as Shinra Kishitani, then possibly Michelle Ruff as Anri, but that's my guess.

EDIT: I ultimately didn't read the last page, so some of my stuff above may be invalid.
