Mazinger Angels chronicles the adventures of four women who pilot giant robots in the Mazinger vein. The concept is a spoof on the late 70's and early 80's popular TV series Charlie's Angels. Three of the robots, Aphrodite A, Diana A and Minerva X are from the original Mazinger Z series, while Venus A is from the Great Mazinger series. Their pilots are also traditional characters from Go Nagai's universe, Sayaka Yumi and Jun Hono from Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger respectively, and Hikaru Makiba and Maria Fleed from Grendizer. The style of the manga highlights the sex appeal of both the characters and the mechas, sometimes similarly to the way Aika's female characters are shown. (Source: Wikipedia)

Fifteen years ago, those living in Outer Space went to war with people still on Earth. During the battles of the 7th Space War, it was found that certain human beings had mysterious arcane abilities, powers of the mind to control and forsee. These gifted people were called Newtypes. They were valuable to both sides of the war; the Earth Federation designed the Flash System which allowed a Newtype pilot to control a horde of unmanned MS, called Bit-Mobile Suits. This was an effective weapon, but sacrificed the lives of many Newtypes. Space fought back for principal, believing the effect of living in Space heightened every human ability and eventually created the prized power of a Newtype, who was not something to use as a tool for war. But in the end, mankind was its own downfall. During the final battle, the Space Revolution Army (SRA) crashed numerous colonies into the planet Earth, with a devastating effect. Millions died as a result of the colony drop. Those that were fortunate enough to find refuge in a Shelter were both blessed and cursed; they wouldn't see the sun again for four years. The rest that made it through had to endure and suffer with living on a ruined planet, plagued by an endless winter and an ever-changing, chaotic atmosphere. With that, the war had ended. For now. But everyone who continued to live on was possessed by that tragic war, and the word "Newtype"... The year is After War 0015, and life on Earth is finally on its way to creating a more perfect world, except for the ruthless mercenaries who use mobile suits to make a living raiding; called Vultures, some of these people are merely chasing money, while others are running from the past. Because of this, Garrod is hired to rescue a kidnapped girl from a Vulture ship, called the Freeden, and its stoic captain, Jamil Neate. This is Tomino's alternate version of "Char's Counterattack" which he proposed for the movie adaptation. He drew up a new story outline which added Beltorchika and turned Amuro into a family man. The sponsors didn't like the idea, and reverted to the original "High Streamer" storyline, but Tomino decided to write this new novel based on his rejected movie plot. In U.C. 0093, Char Aznable returns as leader of Neo Zeon, and is determined to drop the asteroid base Axis on Earth. Opposing him is the task-force Londo Bell, led by Amuro Ray and his Gundam. The final battle will take place over the Earth Sphere. (Source: Gundam Wikia)

In the mid 21st century, human civilization is in dire straits. Gene technology had found a huge market, and due to huge profits, research had accelerated accordingly. An "immortality" gene no longer seemed like a mere dream. However, a sample of this gene was accidentally mixed with a biohazard, creating a new life-form. "They" also took in genetic materials from the natural world, evolving into an enemy that has invaded the human world. The "Shahel" are now a force capable of defeating human military forces, and at this point in time both the North and South American continents have fallen under their control. The USA, among others, no longer exists on the map. In Japan, the government has created and is working on improving a "samurai" unit to oppose the Shahel, utilizing soldiers enhanced with nano-machines to connect with an armored exoskeleton. It is at this point that Tsukahara Takemichi is assigned to the 1st platoon at the "Place of the Samurai."
