I don't think I ever see the trope of a girl running with a toast on her mouth in modern anime except when it is to make fun of the trope.

I don't think I've seen any Ataru/Ryo Saeba type protagonists lately. Except in the Urusri Yatsura remake of course. And the upcoming City Hunter sequel but that's a reboot.

Monogamy in isekai no longer is a thing. It used to be a theme in a lot of older isekai like the familiar of zero, shakugan no shauna, escaflowne, ect. Now it is all about going full harem everytime.

The last time I saw this trope in a modern anime was back in 2015 when I watched Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA and it didn't really seem to be making fun of it.

I don't think it has died completely off, last week this trope was used in Horimiya: Piece for example.

I know, he is a boy not a girl, but the main features of the trope - running and toast - are there.
I remember seeing it in other contemporary anime too.

That trope is still used, just not as much as it used to be. In Uma Musume, the main girl had a carrot in her mouth instead of bread while running to school.

I can't remember the last time I actually saw a girl or group of girls giving the MC a bento every day at school at hopes that the guy would end up liking her back

I guess even for a conservative country like Japan its a bit too out of touch with modern sensibilities

ah but Nagatoro's manga had a nice spin to the idea though that I enjoyed

I'm sick of weak beta male characters and obnoxious tsundere (or other "dere") female characters, especially in School settings!

So, hopefully these widespread tropes will die down some..

Ah toast in mouth my favourite dead trope. Glad someone added it. XD Not seen Horimiya Pieces yet. Or certain others.

There was another I forgot but can't remember what it is anymore/right now.

The Kenshin remake made me realize that is has been a while since the 80s, 90s and early 00s violent female leads stopped being a thing in anime.

The OP is right, now running with the toast in the mouth is used as parody more than anything.. Just like having katsudon at the police station and confessing..
Now the culprit down right refuses saying "you just want my finger prints and DNA to pin the crime on me"

Aside from the new Yugioh spinoffs, Crazy Spiky anime hair is practically dead.

Censorship heavy dubs, nowadays anime dubs are mostly 1 to 1 translations. There's no more "Shadow Realms", the only real censorship now is certain controversial changes by places like Funimation.

I never see that random vein popping out of a characters head when they're angry anymore.

Long anime, most series fall into the 12 episode trap now.

I don't see noseblleds anymore.

shojo where the mc suffers many traumas like in Glass Mask or Princess Sarah. Now they use that only for parody as well.

Gratuitous ultraviolence isn't a trope anymore. It still very much exists, but isn't synonymous with anime anymore like it was in the days of Manga Entertainment/Central Park Media OVAs of the 80s and 90s and the Studio Gonzo shows of the early 00s.
Take care of yourself

Dark Schneider appeared in 1988, the same era as the other badass manly characters, it's not about new adaptations, City Hunter have had many animes and spinoffs throughout the 2000's and 2010's.
My point is that the trope of 80's muscle heroes mostly died off by the early 2000's and is absent or rare in newer manga or anime but not gone completely, case in point see Toriko for a counter example.

@tchitchouan GAR is not dead, it just smells funny. Even in the last few years shows were coming out, and there was a massive revival around 2005. The genre never has reached https://myanimelist.net/anime/967/Hokuto_no_Ken again, but certainly has a continually populated niche up to this day.

My point exactly, GAR titles have become rather few and far between compared to their massive popularity in the past but they're far from being dead.

And i feel that none of the ones in that list capture that 80's burly manliness and silliness vibe as much as https://myanimelist.net/anime/10033/Toriko

I don't see the fall down gag when a bad joke was told or something stupid happens like you used to see all the time 20+ years ago, and even the pervy thought nose bleeds or pervy grandpa seems to be around as much either.

That trope in the OP is funny because it was never done seriously, it started as a parody and has always been done that way.

It turns up at the start of K-On. It visually represents being late for school without needing dialogue or exposition, so it was a manga thing.

It's parodied really well in the first episode of Daily Lives of Highschool Boys.

Other manga tropes are becoming less common as more anime are adapted from light novels etc. so sweat drops, vein popping etc, to indicate emotions, those aren't as common.

The downfall of long anime is truly sad.

They can't even make 12 or 24 episodes without a hitch, so anyway. (Jujutsu, Zoom 100, Nier,...)
