For me it's yuuko ichihara from xxxHolic. Seeing her on the screen puts a smile on my face and make me feel like I'm in heaven. The way she looks, the way she dresses, her voice, the way she behaves, everything about her just make me want to do otherworldy things with her.

Have you ever felt like this for a bunch of pixels?

Yes my forever and only fictional husbando, Astolfo. Astolfo is the closest I've gotten to loving a fictional character and it wasn't like love love, just really massive amount of infatuation.

But my fiancé is the true love interest now. Kinda wanna do cosplay with him tho while making Astolfo a part of the thing, would be nice.

Kurumi Tokisaki from Date A Live. Her voice, clothing and also her OST are just incredible. I also love her role within the series too. She is a villain that no body can deal with because of how powerful she is, but she will also help out our character from time to time.

Of course love is a strong word, I feel like genuinely being in love with an anime character to the point of obsession or just loving no one else is weird. Hopefully no one on this forum is like this… or just doesn’t own a fedora

Fawned over my fair share of guys and girls in anime...

My first girl crush was Sailor Mars and Prince Diamond was probably the first anime guy fancied in Sailor Moon, also had a massive crush on Light and L.

Some recent ones...

Maybe, maybe not. Don't really know but I like Rika from Higurashi enough as a character that I would consider her my waifu.

well no, obviously not. What I feel is more like a parasocial relationship filled with a lot of empathy. But I barely start daydreaming about my waifu when I'm at work.

Funnily enough and believe it or not, despite liking romance (certain types of romance - namely transgressive romance in some form) as one of my favorite genres and having watched and even count among higher rated and/or favorite series I've seen, those with passionate and complicated, intense romantic themes and scenes/moments which dominate and subsume the whole narrative and aura of the series in question, my strongest feelings emotionally toward it, rather than loving or being attracted to romantically or sexually one of the characters in that way, is more of a strong desire to see the relevant characters in question actually get together.

It's moreso that than for myself, because even if it's partially vicarious in some latent part of the psyche kind of way, I don't feel directly drawn toward the individual characters that way, in the sense that I see people discussing or even obsessing over online or at in-person events (I don't personally attend any, but I've seen enough footage) either individually or as part of a collective fandom of devotees and admirers. Can anyone understand or relate to that? Because even if those series, especially romance or partial romance ones for obvious reasons, have those characters and relationships which have lent a huge portion of the emotional weight of anime as a whole to me, it's more again, caring for wanting to see their relationship flourish even against the odds and in spite of all arrayed against them.

And in real life I'm not a romantic person and cannot really relate with the notion of being "in love". And here I'm very pointedly separating and drawing a distinction between romantic love (which I associate with the phrase being "in love") and familial love, other typically platonic forms of love like friendship, and sexual attraction.

Taking all that in mind, the closest thing for me is Rena Ryuuguu in Higurashi or someone like Rena in Higurashi. After that there'd be a few others such as Shiki Magata from Subete ga F ni Naru and Satou Matsuzaka from Happy Sugar Life, but Rena is definitely the closest approximation.

Yep, i felt like that for Mai Valentine as a kid. And again as an adult when i rewatched the show.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

You just feel a strong empathy towards the character. You yourself are never part of the equation, you're the silent observer who experiences all the emotions a character feels second-hand.

And the crazy thing about it is that the story is obviously constructed but a good one can make you question the expected outcome (happy-end) nonetheless. From an outside perspective you know it must happen a certain way, but your emotional investment still makes you doubt it. You suspend your disblief to enjoy it more.

As a young teen I was obsessed with Ciel from Black Butler, that's the closest to "being in love" it got in my case

This guy should be nailed onto a pole and rock-thrown until death, and it's only reasonable.

Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Help! You know I need someone. Helpppppp!

It's okay to say I love you to anime characters and mean it but the problem arises when they start telling it back to you while  the anime isn't even playing...
Then it's time to see the shrink
