I asked about this topic a few months ago to Crunchyroll's customer service and this was their answer: " Crunchyroll does not censor its content. We play what we are provided. We can only air the versions of shows provided to us by the content creators. Sometimes they provide a censored version and sometimes uncensored. Often, the broadcast version of a show will be censored to boost sales of a later uncensored version for DVD and Blu-ray". |

I guess people would be sort of shocked that Japanese live action series before the 2010s have occasional adult and child nudity in non-sexual contexts. |

In general, I wish things weren’t censored. Crunchyroll keeps doing and it’s annoying now. The idea was to make anime more accessible and not do the same practices in the 90’s with censorship to the point of changing source material. HOWEVER Japan needs to cool it with fan service sometimes, little bit is cool but not when it’s questionable lol It’s when the censorship changes story and stuff for a heavy story and thought provoking anime it sucks |

its stupid literally anime on streaming can ignore many tv censoring parameters 'cause is streaming, just the specific public for x type of show or pepole what have interest for will watch this show, just see cyberpunk edgerunners on netflix and say me if some scenes can be showed on tv. |

It comes as zero surprise to me that the anti-industry crowd would feel the need to preemptively smear anyone who exposes their ignorance on how the industry actually works in situations like this. As far as I can tell, the case of Onimai is yet another example of "Premium Japanese satellite channels get an uncensored / less-censored version of a 'heavy ecchi' anime, while general broadcasts and streaming sites get the fullly-censored version" We've seen this play out numerous times, at least as far back as shows like Highschool DxD, Freezing, and Dragonar Academy, many of which also drew erroneous accusations of Western companies "butchering" anime, just because the pirate streams and downloads were taken from the less-censored versions. Onimai is known to be broadcast on AT-X, BS11 (both satellite channels), and on general broadcaster Tokyo-MX. The CR version is more censored than the AT-X/BS11 versions, as seen via the files [KureyonRaws] Onii-chan wa Oshimai! - 01 (AT-X 1280x720 x264 AAC).mkv and [YE] Onii-chan wa Oshimai! - 01 (BS11 1280x720 x264 AAC).mkv that you can find on everyone's favorite feline torrent site. Unfortunately, there are no files atm labeled as being from Tokyo-MX, or just "MX" as they are generally tagged, so I can't confirm 100% that the CR and MX versions are the same. However, in all conceivable probability, CR is streaming the more-censored general broadcast version that they received from the Japanese licensor, not censoring anything themselves. Ever hear of Occam's Razor? "The simplest explanation is most likely correct." Because for CR to be censoring this or similar shows like World's End Harem, the following would have to be true: 1) CR having some "Department of Censorship" that possesses the financial resources and artistic talent to edit animation. 2) CR believing that such censorship would benefit them financially, or that some nebulous, nefarious "agenda" is worth more than the risks to their bottom line and their community reputation. 3) All this censorship/editing being feasible within the tight windows of a simulcast schedule, including any approvals they'd need from the Japanese content owners. But of course, the anti-industry crowd tends to ignore verifiable, empirical evidence, and believe the opposite of Occam's Razor ("Macco's Beard"?): that the most tangled, convoluted, and conspiratorial explanation must be the right one. Do what you feel you need to do to get whatever version of this show suits you best. But if you want to blame anyone, blame the Japanese contracts for not letting any services other than those premium Japanese satellite stations have legal access to the uncensored version. |

This thread reeks of ignorance. CR just airs the censored version of the show as it's a part of the deal. This is how the episode aired on Japanese TV. |

Looks like CR got the censored version, I hope they can get the uncensored version in the near future like for Terraformars. Oh, and just to remind people on this forum, Terraformars was heavily censored, and was the one CR stream until people found out that version was heavily censored in both CR & Japan. In the end, CR got the uncensored version of Terraformars. |

Now watch how the paid shills will flood this thread soon and try to convince everyone that this isn't Crunchys fault. |

Off-topic, but its also about Crunchyroll: Whenever I go to crunchyroll website, and I click on an anime, the screen goes fully black. This happens in both of my computers. Just take a look at @MadanielFL or @Zalis post history, they must be spending multiple hours every week just shilling for paid streaming services and people seriously think they don't get paid for that? I don't care about the difference, I think either that people who do are being too picky or my eyesight is worse than I realise. I think it's poor form to call people proving you wrong about a given subject company plants. They aren't and I know that you know they aren't despite what you claim to believe. I think people like zalis and madanielfl take too much pleasure in proving people wrong on the internet, but being annoying doesn't mean they have ulterior motives. I think you place pride in your identity as a pirate, and extrapolate that to the practice itself, that's fine actually I think it's pretty fun to do that too (I even own a pirate hat it's great). But when people criticize the practice or say it's not the same value as doing it officially and legally you're taking it personally. |
